This bank is so out of touch with their customers…I needed a loan that my car secured and I payed it off very early completely because I am selling the car …they are forcing me to wait 20+ days even though they have all the money just to produce a letter …this bank is a small fry in a big world and they miss treat their customers

A brief Google search of me would have uncovered the fact that I owned and recently sold a business thus satisfying their offensive claim and with holding my money. I will close my act ASAP.

I had a loan with Independent Financials and could always get answers quickly from my loan officer. Since SouthState Bank purchased/merged with Independent, dealing with them has been a nightmare. Every question now requires going through chat, phone, or email with a customer service representative who knows nothing about loans. They submit a ticket with what you hope is the right question, and then you wait 24–48 business hours for a loan representative to respond. In my experience, there’s only about a 50% chance of getting a callback within 48 business hours. If you miss the call or have follow-up questions, you’re back to square one.
My latest issue: I have an ARM, and my interest rate was increasing. I asked about my new payment and was told it would be recalculated based on the principal at that time. I also asked if I could make a large principal payment to reduce the monthly amount and was told yes, including the date it needed to be sent. We made the payment a month before the due date—but the loan was never recalculated. My payment is now so high that a 25-year loan would be paid off in just 7 years—completely unaffordable. I am now on my third 24–48 hour wait with no resolution. I wish I could switch banks. This experience is beyond frustrating.

I have a mortgage with SouthState and it's been terrible. Their autopay system is a mess, and their customer service frequently has incorrect or limited information so they don't do much to help. Recently, an autopay of mine was refunded (no idea why), and for some reason, the next communication included a foreclosure warning and being told there were three missed payments (when, in fact, the autopay system double charged me two months in a row). Resolving any of this takes forever. Customer service puts in a request, which is supposed to be responded to in 72 business hours. After three different requests and 3 different 72 hour intervals, I finally had a customer service agent stick with me long enough to find out what was going on and help out. In the meantime, they ding your credit score for nonpayment. AVOID AVOID AVOID this bank for home mortgages!!!!

South State Bank recently purchased the bank my family had been using.
I have had a good experience with the personal banker.
I am not dealing with traditional banking issues due to family deaths and the company's legal department. Today marks the third trip to the local branch only to find that the branch lobby is closed. I called the customer help line and was told that the bank lobby was closed for lunch and that this happens between 11am and 2pm. I was at the bank at 2pm. A second call to the bank itself I was told that the bank lobby would be open again at 2:30pm. I am not sure how this branch can stay open if the lobby hours are closed between 11am and 2pm because the branch is "short staffed".

Doesn't matter how long you have been banking with them, now just another big bank. My personal account opened with the bank they bought, 45 years old. Home loan, 20 years old, business account, 26 years old. Now I'm just a number. Walked in the other day and started to knock on the open door of the Ast. manager only to have a cashier demand I check in with him at the counter, from across the lobby i heard, don't go into that office, come here. Who are you and what do you want. Down hill from there. I'm closing out my accounts and moving to a credit union. I won't even go into applying for a heloc and being told my income is 1% short. So sad, First Federal was first rate,

Great people in their branches and that's where it ends. Their digital side is a nightmare. Do not go with them if you want to do bank to bank transfers. They put you through a few day process to verify the bank you want to send to. Then, when its time to actually transfer money from Southstate to the other bank, they put your account on hold because "they can't verify your identity." What?! Clearly I am sending money from SS to another bank you already verified for me. What identity are they trying to verify. They then want you to call a 1-800 number to get the hold removed. Currently, I've been on hold for 1 hour, oh, and that doesn't include the previous time I was on hold for 15 minutes before the customer service rep accidentally hung up on me. Starting to feel like they are playing games because they don't like money leaving their bank.

I would rate this bank a zero if I could. For 3 months, I requested new checks. When I asked, I was told it was the post office's fault. Checks showed up 3 months later. I closed the account due to other similar complaints. A month after closing the account, I received a letter indicating that an automatic payment had been denied along with a $36 dollar charge for insufficient funds. When I called the business about this matter, I was informed that I was totally caught up on payments. This is probably THE worst experience I've ever had with a bank. Customer should run, not walk for the door!

South State Bank recently purchased my bank, which was nothing new this Bank has had four names. But with it they brought a new attitude, the bank of the northern hemisphere attitude. Turning what use to be a pleasant experience with happy employees into a nightmare, the employees that remain seem to have morphed into something terrible, without a care in the world. We had someone create a check and try to cash it in some other state drawn on our account, of course we catch it, it was a terrible fake check with an obviously lifted signature. The bank of course replaced our money but also wanted to punish us, they were making us send emails on every check we write before they would honor it, claiming to be cautionary. Then they were trying to shove what they call Positive Pay down our throats that would cost us money and cause extra work. We told them that we will just open another account but needed time because we have 50 to 60 other accounts tied to this bank account, the women informed us we had 60 or 90 days, never confirmed to take care of it. It’s been a couple of weeks. Came in today and they arbitrarily closed our account and put our funds in a new account. Didn’t have a care in the world, I went in person and let me tell you about the guy at the bank, he couldn’t care less. This is going to cause a huge rift in our business with many costs associated. We are going to take legal action against this bank. We have banked with this institution through 4 owners and South State is the worst. Understand, that we had a process in place that there is no way that a bad check could get through, we were verifying everyone before the bank would honor them. Kingwood branch.

If I could give negative stars I would. Have been dealing with this bank through a trust for over 3 years and EVERY SINGLE interaction with them has been insanely ridiculous. Treated like absolute trash every time. I do not know where they source their staff but it must be the bottom of the barrel, knuckle dragger employment services. It is astonishing to me how every interaction has been rude and disrespectful. It’s crazy that companies get away with this kind of service. I have literally travelled to at least 5 different branches to avoid this kind of treatment and only thing that is consistent with them is their horrible service and demeaning behavior towards clients. I literally have anxiety every time that I have to deal with them. It’s awful and if you want to be treated like trash on a consistent basis, then bank here. I don’t think that when my Mother set up her trust before she passed from cancer, she would have wanted this to be the outcome! Absolutely not.

When requested a more definitive time frame, I was told they could not fine my money. They made it out as though they could not find me at last statement. I am beginning to regret ever opening account with Southstate Bank.

Dealing with this bank is like dealing with a bank in the 70's when they were doing you a favor by holding your accounts. Everything with Southstate was difficult or not possible from just talking to customer service to opening a HELOC. The HELOC i opened had hidden terms not as described by my assigned personal banker. I had to close it and demand my money back. Its a long time since I felt I needed to read the fine print. I am a retired businessman who knows his way around bank services and this bank does not have what it takes.
I was just informed by South State Bank that there’s been a data breach and that my Social Security number, account number, and other identifying information was accessed by cyber criminals. This is not so awful in this day and age given that Equifax has already exposed 145 million of us to cyber criminals; nevertheless, South State Bank has failed in the most basic of ways — by failing to protect customers’ personal financial and information, earning them a one star review.
In all fairness, I must say that they offered me “compensation“ in the way of one year of identity theft protection which is worth about $4.99 a month retail, which is really not much in the way of compensation given a data breach of this nature.
Never had a issue and was very helpful whenever I had any issues or questions.
