After having a membership at a credit union in Michigan I was spoiled with a great customer service that they had. I have a safe deposit box there and when the one year contract is over with I am closing everything at Suncoast Credit Union! Today I went there to use my box and when I came out of the privacy room the young lady who let me in was standing back over to the front of the branch talking to a friend of hers. So I had to walk all the way across the branch with my safe deposit box to get her attention to let me back into the safe to put my box away. I called to make a complaint I was on hold forever I finally hung up. I would not recommend this credit union!
Great for personal finance. HORRIBLE for business.
I know this is an old thread, but it was the first thing that came up in a Google search for “Suncoast Credit Union reviews”. I can speak for personal financing as well as holding a business account with them, so I thought I’d drop my two cents in here, specifically to help those looking to open a BUSINESS account with Suncoast.
• Personal Financing: I’ve financed two vehicles with Suncoast both pre and post pandemic. In 2017 or 2018, I financed a 2012 Toyota Corolla 72 months with 2% interest. It was my first time opening an account with Suncoast, and getting set up was a breeze. I opened up a checking account with $5-$10, and I had good (not “very good”; I had just graduated high school) credit, no co-sign. One 30-minute sit-down meeting with a branch rep, and I walked out of there with a check to purchase my car. The low payments and interest allowed me to pay the whole thing off in about 4 years. 5/5 star experience all around.
• Personal Financing: In late 2020 or early 2021, I financed a cargo van I was using for my freelance business. I was able to secure another 72-month, 2% interest loan without a co-sign. Another 30-minute sit down with a different branch rep and the experience was just as smooth as the first. 5/5 star experience.
• Business BANKING: In mid 2020, I officially established my business and opened a business checking and savings account with Suncoast. At the time, it made the most sense because Suncoast has extremely low requirements for business accounts: no monthly fees, no minimum transaction/purchase requirements, no need to open a line of business credit or anything… very low barrier of entry. But over the past 5+ years, I’ve learned you get what you pay for in a business account. The first grief I have is the transaction history: 90 days. What is that? I can only look at 1Q-worth of transactions in my history without having to download bank statements?? As far as monthly statements go, you only get 4 years. So you actually have to download bank statements regularly if you plan on looking back 4 years or more. Second grief (and probably greatest, for me) is the way they handle external transactions. They outsource this service to third-party vendors. The service they used to use from when I established my business account until just recently was extremely clunky and especially buggy on mobile. For years, I was paying my contractors on a blank phone screen; I memorized where the fields were on the screen and tapped white space to pull up the keyboard to input the details, and had to check the history/activity screen to make sure I got it right. This particular third-party service they used also held transaction history for 90 days, and even if you filled out the “Memo/Notes” section, the email confirmation you’d receive wouldn’t include this detail. So keeping track of which contractor I paid and what I paid them for was an absolute pain. I held onto hope that they’d sort out the bugs and get it figured out after submitting complaints… I guess they finally got the message recently, because they finally switched services this year! …Except with absolutely no notice to their business account holders. I logged into my Suncoast account recently to find that not only do I have NO history of external payments to my contractors, but I also no longer have the ability to my contractors at all! I called a Suncoast rep to figure out what the deal is. The response I received was along the lines of, “yeah, we just switched providers for external transfers and we were unaware that it’d have this effect on business accounts… but we’re working on a solution!” I asked, “do you have any idea when this will be resolved?” Of course, the answer was no. I said, “I know you aren’t personally responsible for this, but if you could pass the word along: it would’ve been very helpful for all of your business account holders to be notified that this function was receiving a significant overhaul. And subsequently, it would’ve been nice once the problem was identified, to have it sorted before the changes took place on business accounts.” The response I received was “yeah, it would’ve been nice…” no indication that the complaint would be escalated. All of these factors have been a severe hindrance to my business operations, so I’m willing to give THIS aspect of banking with Suncoast a 1/5 star rating

Yet they were happy to keep my money up to 5 business days.
It is theft and they make money off of this.

Been with suncoast credit union for over 22 years I have financed my vehicles with them took out several loans and I never had a single issue with them for over two decades. Unfortunately this has changed dramatically when a merger took place recently in March of 2026, I had all my Bill payments with Suncoast and it was a very positive experience as all my bills would be paid without any issues, in the beginning of March I began to look for alternatives to open another account using a different bank which i started to do but was unable as suncoast had deleted all the information of my creditors that I had stored in my account for payments which were done in the beginning of each month, I tried in vain to retrieve my billing information accounts and the representative told me that she was not able to do so leaving me in the mercy of my creditors. I don't wish this problem on anyone so you guys who are thinking that suncoast is a responsible institution don't is all I can say. Today we see more of these problems across many businesses and why is the question it's like instead of going forward we are going backwards at full speed.
It doesn't make me feel good for leaving a negative review but I do so as a warning to others with your financial responsibilities.
If you want to open a Jumbo CD, you must be a fraud.
Have been trying for two weeks to open a membership account and a jumbo CD. All online attempts failed, so this morning I went into the Chiefland branch to try again. I was able to open the membership account with $5 cash, but all attempts to transfer funds into the Jumbo CD (from Capital One, which is the premier online bank) were blocked by Suncoast. Cashier suggested I do a wire transfer (which would cost about $25) and I refused. I could transfer funds from my Capital One savings to my Capital One checking today and write Suncoast a check, but they probably would refuse that too, and I would be out the interest at the savings rate. I don't know how this organization survives given their assumption that everyone who comes through the door is a fraud.

I've been with Suncoast for over 30 years and have been quite pleased UNTIL NOW! They suggested using an app on their site called Cash Pay. I tried it on an ebay purchase and was charged twice!!! They refused to fix it. Shopping for a new bank!!!

I had to pay to cash a credit union check
I received a check from one of their credit union members. I went to cash it and I was told that I needed to have a membership with them. I said, I'm sorry, I just want to cash the check. I was told that I have to pay $5 in order to open a temporary account in order to cash the check even though the check is from one of their credit union members. Unbelievable!

What's a piece of crap bank? The dumb tellers applied our son's 2 car payments to

Wait time is horrible tell you 10 min wait ends up being a hour. Attempt to use phone services of they don't have an answer for you they put you back on hold hoping you'll hang up. Try to pay or put money in to a suncoast from another bank they tell you to go to the other bank and get cash yet have atms right there... other institutions could process a EFT in person or debit in person but not them...
Horrible service
Horrible service. I have been a member for 40 (FORTY YEARS) years. A call to customer service today resulted in a wait time of 40 MINUTES. Ironic, probably not. You get what you pay for. They are cheap and provide the ultimate cheap service. Please avoid unless you have a day to kill to call them. Very sad to see what they have become.

Called 9/1 to unblock they tell me it’s not blocked. Spoke with two departments both said same thing. The declined my upcoming rent even after calling them and telling them that my rent was gonna go thru and they said nothing wrong with card then 9/8 I get letter form management company about blocked card again!!! $300 in fees were charged due to being late.
Suncoast said they would look at phone calls and get back to me they didn’t and I called and they said they told me it was blocked, they are lying to not pay me fees!!

Suncoast Credit Union online service gets worse every year. Basically, when they close their physical branches, they also close their online service. Whether through the website or the app, you can't access it most days after 6 p.m. You always have to wait until the next day. I'm very disappointed with their online service.

What kind of people are you hiring now? Thanks for nothing. If you record and monitor your calls then explain to me why I was just hung up on by a rude stuck up employee.
