Did not return deposit!!!!!!!!

Rented a car last summer, they charged a deposit which has never been returned!! I have been in contact with them for the past year, and they keep telling me it isn’t their fault by my bank.. My bank has never received the money from sixt. They scam you, and will never return the deposit they make you pay! I will never use Or recommend sixt to anyone!

Nie wieder SIXT !!!!

Wir haben 2021 (Cagliari/Sardinien) und 2025 (Faro/Portugal) über Sixt ein Auto gemietet. Die zweite Buchung war ein grosser Fehler.
Im 2021 wollte uns die Vermietung einen Schaden verrechnen, der bereits bei der Übergabe vorhanden war - einfach nur dreist. Wir konnten aufgrund von unseren Fotos beweisen, dass der Schaden von Anfang an bestand. So eine dreiste Masche.

In 2025 in Faro war der Service unterirdisch. Der Herr am Schalter war extrem unfreundlich und behauptete, unsere Zusatzversicherung (Komplett-Schutz) wäre nicht gültig. Sein englisch war extrem schlecht und kaum zu verstehen. Auch unser Bitten, etwas langsamer und deutlicher zu sprechen, war umsonst. Bei der Übergabe wurde uns gesagt, wir sollen das Auto "as empty as possible" abgeben - sprich mit leerem Tank. Ein paar Tage nach der Abgabe wurde uns dann ein voller Tank plus 100% Aufschlag verrechnet - ohne Info an uns. Weder das Übergabe-, noch das Abnahme Protokoll wurde uns zugestellt.

Wir sind weltweit viel unterwegs und haben noch nie solche Probleme gehabt wie mit Sixt.
Ich werde nie wieder ein Auto bei dieser Firma mieten. Die schlechten Bewertungen bei Trust Pilot sprechen für sich!

Nicht mal 1 Stern verdient

Nicht mal 1 Stern verdient. Ich wurde richtig abgezogen in Zug. Ich habe ein Auto gemietet und es früher abgegeben, ich hatte nachgefragt ob der Betrag erstattet wird. Ja sicher kein Problem. Zu guter letzt wurde mir ein Kratzer untergejubelt. Weder beim abholen noch beim abgeben wurde das dito mit mir angeschaut es hieß ich soll den Schlüssel einfach liegen lassen. Selten do eine Frechheit erlebt. Dann hatte ich mich bzgl der verkürzten Tage gemeldet. Nichts ist bisher passiert. Nie wieder steh ich bei euch vor der Türe!!!!!

Une honte

Une honte, tout simplement. Nous étions clients il y a près de dix ans, tout était top, mais la semaine dernière, nous avons loués une Masérati Levante, et nous étions en confiance. Lorsque nous sommes arrivés à l'agence, nous avons dûs commencer par payer la location et donner une caution de 750 Fr. Ensuite, on nous a demandé de récupérer la voiture dans le parking au sous-sol, bien sombre, donc nous n'avons pas prêtés attention. Après être arrivés à la maison, nous avons constatés beaucoup de chocs sur le véhicule, et les pneus étaient lisses. C'est seulement à ce moment là que nous avons reçus un "état du véhicule" par email, listant 22 dommages ! Mon épouse devait partir, elle n'avait pas le choix, c'était le week-end de son anniversaire. Sur l'autoroute, un pneu s'est dégonflé, elle est arrivé à destination, à une heure de Genève et n'a plus utilisé la voiture. C'est par la suite que j'ai vu des avis négatifs sur Sixt Genève, et j'ai vu les réponses de Sixt, incitant les personnes à envoyer un email au service clientèle. J'ai donc choisi ce mode afin de trouver une solution, malgré l'envoi de deux emails, aucune réponse, mais nous avons déposés plainte via notre avocat pour tromperie et mise en danger de la vie d'autrui (le lundi nous avons emmené la voiture auprès d'un garagiste qui a confirmé que l'état du véhicule ne permettait pas de la louer). Sixt arnaque les gens et mets leurs vies en danger, c'est honteux, nous avons les moyens et continuerons avec nos avocats afin qu'ils comprennent qu'ils n'ont pas tous les droits !

STAY AWAY - Vile company

STAY AWAY I’ve never dealt with a more dishonest and money-grabbing company than Sixt. If you’re thinking about renting from them—don’t. This is a warning to anyone considering Sixt because they will do everything they can to squeeze money out of you, even for damages that were already there.

I rented a car from Sixt in Geneva, and while I did cause one minor bit of damage, which I fully acknowledge, they also claimed I had damaged the windscreen—despite the fact that it was already listed as damaged on their own paperwork. It didn’t matter that I had proof. It didn’t matter that it was pre-existing. They still charged me the full amount for it, hitting me with a ridiculous 2,500 CHF excess.

This isn’t just bad service; it’s outright fraud. Sixt’s business model seems to be built on pinning false damages on customers, charging outrageous fees, and refusing to acknowledge their own records. Even if you do everything right—take photos, check the paperwork, and drive carefully—they will find a way to charge you.

Their customer service was beyond frustrating—rude, dismissive, and completely uninterested in resolving the issue. There was no discussion, no accountability, just a demand for payment. They clearly know exactly what they’re doing and don’t care.

If you value your time, money, and sanity, avoid Sixt at all costs. No matter how cheap or convenient they might seem, it’s not worth the risk. I’ve rented from plenty of companies before, and this was by far the worst experience I’ve ever had. Do yourself a favour and go with a company that doesn’t make a business out of scamming its customers.

Sixt Rent a Car Review: A Disappointing Experience

I recently rented a car with Sixt, and honestly, the experience was far from great. Although the company claims to offer premium service, my experience was anything but.

To begin with, the pick-up process was slow and disorganized. Even though I had booked in advance, I had to wait longer than expected, and the staff was neither friendly nor helpful. On top of that, they aggressively tried to upsell additional insurance, even though I had already secured coverage through my credit card.

The car I received was not in the best condition. While it was the model I had requested, it showed signs of poor maintenance, with a dirty interior and a few visible scratches.

Returning the car was just as frustrating. I was charged an unexpected fee with no clear explanation, and it took several days of back-and-forth communication with customer service to resolve the issue. The post-rental service was just as disappointing as the in-office experience.

Overall, I wouldn’t recommend Sixt if you’re looking for a hassle-free car rental experience. There are plenty of other companies that offer better service and more transparent pricing.

What a rip off...disgraceful customer treatment

What a rip off...In many years of renting cars, I have never come across a company so intent on exploiting every opportunity to rip you off. What started as a booking for CHF355 for 5 days rental ended up costing me over CHF660 without any damage or upgrades.

If you are going to use this company, be very careful. Their basic insurance (included) was only third party and leaves you with full liability for the new cost of the car in the event of theft or a write-off and the cost to take that down to a normal excess (CHF2500) was over CHF180 and their supposed complementary refuelling option is twice the cost of putting the fuel in yourself.

Absolutely the worst car hire experience I have ever had. Do not go near this place...

Be careful about booking from these…

Be careful about booking from these guys - I was charged 2500 CHF ~ 2600 EUR extra!

We were only using the car to drive to and from Val D'Isere (a total of 2 uses plus one short use driving around town) and thought we got a good deal on the rental at Geneva Airport. The car did seem fine to drive. However when you pick it up, the parking lot is very tight and also dark - so when you check the car for previous damage before and take photos (which we did), you can't really see the damage on the car. This was our first mistake - *make sure to take photos of the car outside in the light*.

We then drove the car to and from Val D'Isere; our trips were un eventful - we used the snow chains provided us at one point (following the instructions), which could have scratched a wheel, but I don't know how that could be our fault. We make the return to Geneva airport, again I take a video of the car to check it all - but given I have never had any claims made against me by a rental company in the past and we had not had anything really happen to the car in its short use, I did not think much of it. Equally, given the darkness of the parking garage, you cannot see much on the video.

The next day I receive an email saying there was damage on every single side of the car?! Having never had any damage reported against me on any rental, this was a big surprise. I challenged it, saying that I was unaware of how these could have happened, apart from perhaps the use of the snow chains. I also sent in my videos of the car before and after, but of course, given the light in the parking garage, they showed almost nothing. Naturally, SIXT ignored all my appeals.

Just over a month later, I receive a bill for 2500 CHF (~2600 EUR)! Not only that, but I receive a damage report somehow for less than this(?), 2257.61 CHF, and yet they are still charging me the full excess. I'm praying my insurance will cover it, but regardless, naturally I have never had such a bad experience renting a car.

So be careful renting from these guys, make sure insist on taking photos in the light if you do, and if you can find someone more honest to rent from, I'd recommend! Hopefully this is helpful for somebody :)

Total Scam

Untrustworthy dishonest scam. We now know a number of people who have had a terrible experience like this with Sixt. When we hired the car we were given a QR code to send photos of damage we noted. The QR doesn’t work presumably because you are in a concrete multi storey. We took date and timed photo of the damage and of the QR code. When we returned the car no one was there. No damage on car other than that noted at pick up. Took photos. Now have a list of damage alleged by Sixt supported by no timed photographic evidence. There are numerous reviews below and on trip advisor all with people experiencing the same rip off practise. Do not use this firm!

This review is for the Geneva's airport office - Terrible service

I have worked with Sixt in the past and was very happy with their service. So, I wanted to rent two cars for myself and my family for our vacation in Switzerland. Unfortunately, I must say that the quality of service was deplorable, especially compared to what I have experienced in other Sixt agencies in different countries.

First, the cars took an incredibly long time to be approved—over a week. When the first car was finally approved, they asked me to fill out a form because I had no history with them. I told them that I had rental history with other Sixt agencies, but they said that didn’t count and that I needed to have a history specifically with their agency. I hate paperwork, but fine, I complied.

Then, I asked them about the second car. They responded a few days later, on a Saturday, telling me that the car was actually unavailable. They offered me another one in a higher category but at about a third more in price. They gave me 24 hours to respond. However, I only saw the message a few days later because, being sent on a Saturday, it got lost in the flood of other messages.

I told them I did not want to pay more and that I wanted a car in the same category. Normally, a quality agency, when unable to provide a car in a specific category, offers one in a higher category at the same price. This Sixt agency showed neither that courtesy nor efficiency. Since they took so long to respond, and that I was busy, I asked someone from my group to called them on my behalf to arrange things... and they turned her down !

So I ended up renting cars from their competitor, Enterprise, for 40% of the Sixt price.

So, I strongly advise against this agency—bureaucratic, completely inefficient, and obsessed with making you fill out unnecessary paperwork while making you pay more than twice the price for half the service.

Nonexistent customer service

I have tried to contact Sixt several times via email without success. We made a reservation from Friday the 13th in Basel to Tuesday the 17th in Zurich. On Wednesday the 18th, we received an email stating that there is a 5 cm scratch. I have already sent 4 emails with videos and photos proving that this damage was already there BEFORE the rental, but no one is responding. Please, this is urgent. They want to charge us for damage we are proving is not our fault. Reference: 9074668744. Rental ID: 9514606713

DO NOT GIVE SIXT YOUR BUSINESS

Sixt has got to be the worst car rental company I have ever delt with. The best comparison I have is street scammers. In fact, to compare Sixt to street scammers is an insult to street scammers. Unfortunately I can not give a star rating of 0. My story in short, we told them that we required a vehicle that could accommodate 4 adults, a child seat and luggage. The sales person totally misrepresented the vehicle size and when we took it back, less than an hour later, they insisted that we pay > $1100 for a “1 day” rental (BTW, the same car on their website rents for about $150 + taxes and fees for 1 day). The so called manager on duty said we had to take this up to corporate to get this resolved as he did not have the authority to do anything. Of course, “corporate” was unwilling to reduce this and we have been battling them for 9 months. They are now threatening lawyers. We believe that since they misrepresented the vehicle that we should owe them nothing (cleaning fee at the most). We made a good faith offer to pay for a reasonable 1 day rental for this but they are not negotiating in good faith. BTW, we got a much better vehicle for 2/3 of Sixt’s price at another rental company that may or may not begin with A.

Stornierung 19 Minuten vor Reservationsantritt

Ich hatte für einen Umzug einen grossen Lieferwagen gebucht. 19 Minuten vor Reservationsantritt wurde meine Reservation storniert. Vor Ort wurde mir keine brauchbare Alternative vorgeschlagen, nur ein kleinerer Wagen zum gleichen Preis - "friss oder stirb". Auf meine Beschwerde reagiert der Kundendienst seit über 2 Wochen nur mit "Schenken Sie uns noch ein wenig Geduld".

While one would think that Sixt in…

While one would think that Sixt in Zurich would be one of the most premium rental providers, it's actually the worst one. And this is probably for the whole of Switzerland.

I did multiple rentals with them in the previous months and they keep charging my credit card without informing me (I just notice the charges in my bank statements out of blue).

When I call their customer support to receive information for the charges, they say that they don't have the capability to provide such info. Then they prompt to send an email at service @ sixt.ch for information, but no one answers there either.

So we have a rental company, that abuses my credit card without informing me the reason of the charge, and then refuses to provide me with the reason of the charge. This is unethical and ilegal.

Despicable treatment from Sixt who have…

Despicable treatment from Sixt who have billed me 1200CHF for a <5cm scratch on the bumper of the car which normally I'd assume would be wear and tear.

The damage reports they sent prior to my rental include scratches / damage in the same area they insist is not the same as the minuscule mark that allegedly occurred with me driving.

I had no incident during the 3 days I had the car.

Their customer support is cruel and slow. I would never use them again.

It seems it's common they fundamentally scam victims for these kind of minor things.
