I need to do an amazing callout to PIA for my dog who had a critical illness after being bitten by a tiger snake (and no, we do not live outside CBD - so unfortunate). When we were going through financial hardship, we stupidly missed a payment on our insurances (human and pet) when our precious dog was bitten by a snake - it was three weeks after I had failed to make payment. Not only did they honor backdated payment but covered him immediately at hospital without question.
We sadly lost our baby 5 days later with $30,000 of costs for his treatment - they communicated direct with the hospital;- paid the bills every 12/24 hours so we could focus on Bucky (our dog). Despite Bucky loosing his life, I am recommending them to everyone. I also find it terribly thoughtful that they cancelled the policy and stopped the direct debits without us needing to make that awful call.
On a previous policy, they exclude desexing which I was annoyed about but I have taken time to compare other insurers and now find them best on market. Please read the exclusions well - critical illnesses and pre-existing conditions have a waiting or exclusion period so to cover them and it is actually fair. I strongly recommend taking the routine care as well (for only a few dollars a month, you cover vaccinations) and top cover - it is typically only the cost of 1-2 coffees a month different.
I cant tell you how heartbreaking it as to see other furbabies having to put their dogs down (who were in better condition that ours) because they could not afford $20-30,000. I will never be without insurance again. Well done PIA
PS- only negative is the payment process and constant holds to speak to someone. But... hopefully you do not need to call.

My dog has been insured with PIA for 7 years. This is the first time we have used the cover. They responded instantly to the claim and the entire sub limit was paid out. Made a stressful time easy.
It was a smooth process to claim during a very stressful time. It took away alot of the anxiety around our situation and provided a great outcome for us.
PLEASE do not be suckered by this pet insurance company as pet insurance Australia are a complete joke to deal with.
Happy to take expensive premiums for your animals but not happy to help when you make a claim!
No only did I leave my contact details as the person who replied to my review a few days ago responded and asked me too but they also said a “Supervisor would be in contact with me ASAP to help, after I left my contact details” which I did leave pretty much straight after they posted a reply to my review.

After leaving left 13 unanswered requested call backs to the person that was handling my claim/ complaint at the dispute resolutions team why would anyone call me back now.

I have been beyond frustrated and angry 😡 trying to deal with them over and over again, emails and phone calls about a claim that’s dragged out since before Christmas!!
Do yourself a favour and try any other pet insurance company before these jokers for not only the sake of your precious pets but your own sanity, trust me, they are not worth it !!!
Our dog became suddenly and seriously unwell, and we were faced with an urgent visit to a veterinary hospital. It was an incredibly stressful time seeing our beloved family pet so sick, and the potential costs of consultations, CT scans, X-rays and medications were significant. Having PIA insurance meant we didn’t have to worry about the financial burden and could focus entirely on getting our dog the care she needed. The policy was easy to understand, the claim was processed smoothly while we were still at the hospital, and we really appreciated the follow-up from the insurer checking on both our dog’s recovery and our claims experience. PIA's support made a difficult situation much easier to manage.
I highly recommend Pet Insurance Australia. We have been with them for a number of years now but have not needed to use their services until recently. Communication has been fantastic and the use of the gap only program has been so reassuring. I would not hesitate to recommend them to anybody looking for pet insurance.
Pet insurance can be very expensive for senior dogs. Add a breed with a history of health issues, and it is even worse. I have had both my French Bulldogs with PIA from puppyhood to 12 years old. I shopped around. After they were 8 years old, no other insurer would take on my senior dog with a reasonable excess and annual payments. Since I stayed with PIA from the start, they came to the party, while others asked for double the premium in comparison. Their web portal for claims needs some improvement, but I have spoken to their staff on occasion, and they seem to care genuinely about the animals' welfare, not just their revenue.
PIA have been fantastic to deal with, claims have such a fast turn around and our vet receptionist even said "wow, I can't believe they are paying that much" so we are very happy!

We have made a few claims throughout our dogs life so far and each claim was paid promptly with no hassles at all. The website to make claims is very easy to use and only takes a few minutes once you have the correct paperwork.

I would then receive an email showing the Vets estimated cost, estimated benefit from PIA then estimated Gap amount which I had to pay.
It is an excellent experience and the process was stress free. After the operations and fees paid I would then receive a complete statement displaying the amounts that were charged by the Vet and the amount paid by PIA. I would highly recommend the 80% Cover. I have had the insurance since my Vizsla was 6 months old (now 10) and it clearly is the best decision I have made.

I’ve had a wonderful experience with Pet Insurance Australia. My dog, Flash, recently had to visit the vet, and as always, the claims process was incredibly fast and efficient.
One of the standout features for me is the GapOnly service—it makes such a difference being able to pay only the gap at the vet rather than waiting for a reimbursement. Their policies are also very reasonably priced compared to others on the market. It’s a huge relief knowing I can focus on Flash’s recovery instead of worrying about the paperwork. Highly recommend PIA to any pet parent!

This is the most dishonest rip off company. Refused a legitimate claim for an existing condition they said. OMG it was for a completely different condition over 4 years later. They are absolute SCUM. I've now taken them to AFCA!
Wouldn’t waste your money. Nearly $700 for first year of dog insurance. Got hardly anything back for a few claims. Tried to put premium up to over $1000 for second year, then capitulated when I cancelled the policy. Erm, no thanks. I’ll go elsewhere.
Shocking customer service from their Phillipines call centre with very poorly trained staff who do not listen and cannot provide accurate information. Their claims process is cumbersome and excessively time consuming with constant requests for “additional information” despite comprehensive case notes provided by the vet. Even the vet informed me they have never seen a pet insurance company request so much excessive details for case notes.
I have been with this company for 2 of my pets for over 10 years, plus another 2 for a shorter period. Two have now reached over 10 years of age, where I can't transfer to another fund. My dog has had medical claims. His premium has gone from $93.92 in 2021 to $175.87 PER MONTH for 2023. My cat has had no claims and her policy has gone from $75.75 to $114.67 PER MONTH. On enquiry, they tell me this is a formula based on type, age and claims for the pet. I call it gouging because they know you can't move. Imagine if your health cover increased by 100% in 2 years because of you had cancer!! This is a disgusting practice. They gave me a small waiver of fees because I said I would go to the ACCC. It is hard for me to do much other than file an official report but I can warn everyone else before they get locked into this unethical organisation.
