Great, small company - most of my wardrobe now

Love Outlier. Surprised to see them so disliked here. I've ordered from them several times, and have always received high quality pieces on time, with good communication from Customer Service. If you have any doubt about this, they have a Discord where people all talk about their orders etc, and the Discord much more closely reflects the average customer experience, I think. If you want several hundred customers to contradict the bad reviews here, I'd recommend checking it out.

They don't abide by their own written return policy

After extensive research into pants I decided I wanted a pair of the Outlier Slim Dungarees. I was so excited for these pants as they would be the highest quality piece of clothing that I've ever bought and was looking forward to the whole one pant to end all pants. After ordering what I thought to be the correct size I was in love with the feel and construction but unfortunately the sizing was not correct. I exchanged them for a different size which also turned out to be just not quite right but better than the first. When I went to grab what I knew was going to be perfect the customer support member "Angie" was quick to retort that it was their "policy" that no returns were allowed on exchanges. I went through the entire Outlier return policy as well as the company Returnly that they use and searched for anywhere where it said there was a return limit on exchanges to find that no...it was not their policy at all. This is all it says:

"RETURN POLICY
We want you to try on and test our clothes freely without stress or worry. All items purchased on our site, unless clearly noted otherwise, can be returned for any reason for up to 45 days after purchase. Return shipping in the US is free, return shipping internationally, unfortunately, is not. Just make sure the items are clean! We reserve the right to reject returns that smell or are otherwise unsanitary.

Items with "Final Sale" in their name or description can not be returned or refunded.

Items received in W.T.F. Packs can not be returned or refunded.

We use a third-party service called Returnly to help process our returns. You can use it to exchange for any in-stock product or return for a refund. All domestic returns are offered an instant store credit to use for an exchange. If the store credit is not used by the time your return is received and processed, a refund will be issued back to your original form of payment."

NOWHERE in this policy does it say that there is a limit on how many times you can exchange for an incorrect size. When I pointed this out she coldy replied "Thanks for your feedback. I'll be sure to pass this along to the rest of the team." If you order online from this company you better be sure you know exactly what size you need from them or order $1000 worth of pants in all different sizes the first time because if you don't they'll screw you out of the shipping costs and "Angie" will tell you it's their policy to do so (it's not). Perhaps Outlier needs to train their customer service representatives better on their policies?

My feelings toward this company have completely been altered now and I am very glad they didn't get any more of my money. I'll instead hunt down a pair of their pants on eBay for 1/4 of the cost and let someone else pay full price to support their lack of customer service training.

I purchased from a facebook ad (that should have been my first red flag). The garden weeder that made weeding look easier.

The product arrived in pieces and is absolute tat!

The instructions are not clear and plastic used marks by simply fixing in the screws! How on earth this item is expected to measure up to the robust nature of gardening is anyones guess!

Do not buy! Disgraceful business. I will be demanding my money back!

Super High $125USD customs tax for Non US customers

Beware! They charge super high tax for NON-US customers. $125 USD customs tax to the Philippines is not a joke. Based on your Trustpilot, the same thing is the case with Canadian customers. If you will return or reject the order, the customer has to PAY the customs tax PLUS pay the return shipping fee which is a hassle. They will NOT REFUND you if you rejected the order via UPS.

I ordered the same thing to UNBOUND MERINO and they did not charge me for customs tax. So you guys have a problem on your INVOICING FOR YEARS and you don't even deal with it. NOT A DECENT COMPANY!!.

Incompetent or con artists you choose

1) I Ordered the item on Friday 22nd January 2021.
2) Two hours after the order I requested a refund - sending an email. I get no reply.
3) On 23rd January (morning UK time) I fill in the official form requesting a reply. No reply.
4) I get an email on 24th 2pm UK time saying the item has been shipped.

Either...

a) There is a problem with communication in their company because I had no response to my refund request which should have been implemented before shipping (not hard considering how small this company is) or...
b) They know fine well that once someone pays the import duty and VAT on these trousers it will be a big hassle to send them back for a refund. Probably most people do not go through the trouble.

The bottom line is neither option is good and Outlier needs to sort something out. I suggest you go with one of their competitors.

beware: a huge disappointment

I was really looking forward to receiving my pants. Unfortunately after meticulously following the sizing chart and even ordering a size down, the pants ended up 1 - 2 inches too wide at the waist and with a load excess fabric at the crotch (I have a 36 inch waist at the widest point and 34 inches at the narrowest point and should have ordered a 34 according to their size guide, but ended up ordering a 33 inch as I am endeavouring to lose weight).

I had the $250 pants shipped to Canada and on top of charging $25 for shipping, and despite the fact that made-in-USA clothes that I've ordered from other retailers are not subject to duties, I was charged $55 for duties due to the way they filled out the form.

I wrote to Outlier to explain my experience with their size chart discrepancy and the duties that should not have been charged, and got a response from Angie, who basically said that for an exchange, I have to ship back at my own expense, that the duties have got nothing to do with them. My concern with the sizing discrepancy from their sizing guide was totally ignored, and it is also untrue that the shipper has nothing to do with the duties charged. As someone who handles logistics myself, I know that responsible companies take the appropriate measures to minimize duties by completing the export forms properly, which is something I think they did not do.

I wrote back at length expressing my disappointment and suggesting that I would be willing to simply accept a credit for future orders equivalent to the extra cost tailoring that I would have to incur to bring in the waistline and crotch; however, I received only a one line response asking me what was wrong with their sizing guide- which I had already described at length in my first e-mail!

I re-explained the problem to Angie, who said that they have never ever had any complaints about sizing before mine, which, from looking at the posts here and elsewhere, is clearly a brazen lie to my face.

At this point, I have no choice but to waste more time posting and warning others about my experience. My time e-mailing these people is already worth more than the $75 credit that I suggested- the minimum that they should have offered given that the sizing problem and duties are more their fault than mine. Even from a goodwill gesture, they should have done more than offer flippant responses and lies to my face.

Like anything else, everything with any product from Amazon or wherever is great, until you come across a problem. Only then can you tell a good company from a bad one. For the $410 ($255 pants + $25 shipping + $55 duties + $75 tailoring), I could have bought a pair of Canali or Armani pants, that includes tailoring, with cash to spare for a pair of jeans on the side.

Outlier- this is no way to treat a customer!

Purchased 2 pairs of pants at $140.00…

Purchased 2 pairs of pants at $140.00 USD each but had only 1 option for shipping. $25.00 USD via UPS for shipping. UPS wanted $106.08 for brokerage fees upon delivery. If I had known, I would of never ordered in the first place. Very bad experience and will not deal with Outlier again. Canadian buyers beware!!!!

Update. According to UPS out of the $106.08 brokage fees, all but $5.00 plus tax are their customs clearance fees. The rest are 20% duty/taxes buy the government. This is of no fault of Outlier. As for the quality of their pants, 4.5 Stars.
