Absolutely impossible to contact the council. The homepage always crashes or shows blank pages and the voice bot is designed you to get you to open the website no matter what enquiry you may have.

Been waiting for OVER TWO YEARS to get someone from the council to just SPEAK TO US regarding a new front door. We have tried calling them every month or so, possibly more. Nobody is ever available. I'm so glad to be leaving this borough soon.

Most useless, unhelpfully and extremely inconsiderate council. Very very very poor customer service. All this council cares about is making money from residents absolutely no consideration for them or their circumstances.

First they send me out penalty of £65 just becouse i drive in in a wrong road (navigation took me through there) . I paid online £65 and looks like the payment hasn’t gone through . Now i received penalty of £195 and of course i cant pay because of they rubbish website with never works and payments doesn’t go through. Also, trying to pay for council tax and website is down.
Soooo irresponsible, they just know how to take take take your money Newham looooves penalties. Yellow lines, white lines, double lines , junctionsss is their favourite . Any side of your car touches the lines, be ready to get letter.
Council Tax
Well I haven't heard from Newham Council up to the date they gave me for a response from them re my council tax bills, the message below tells them exactly what is happening but they have chosen to ignore my message to them on their website, I wasn't surprised that I had not response and it just shows the contempt they show to their residents.
So I have just cancelled my direct debit to pay my council tax as I'm not sure which of the 2 bills are correct, as Newham Council have chosen to ignore my message to them then I will not be paying the said council tax until this problem is rectified by them.
I'm a bit baffled with the 2 council tax bills sent to me by Newham Council on 7th & 17th March 2022, the 7th March bill covers the usual 10 monthly payments and starts on 1st April 2022 and paid by Direct Debit
The 17th March bill is different and starts on 1st May and only covers 9 monthly payments at a different price, I didn't choose 9 monthly payments Newham Council did and why start the direct debit payments on 1st May instead of the usual 1st April, I've always received my council tax bill from Newham Council to pay by 10 monthly payments from 1st April to 1st January the following year, so I tried to contact Newham Council by phone but couldn't get a straight answer from the person I spoke to, I have filled in the online form to ask about the 2 council tax bills and why they are different, but the automatic answer said I would get a reply by 11th April so I have to wait approximately 2 weeks to get any kind of answer if any, I'm tempted to cancel the direct debit and pay the 1st April payment from 7th March bill on the Newham Council website.
Maybe there has been some kind of computer error I don't know.
Has anyone else had this kind of weird thing from their local council?
Worst borough to be in
I think most services in London are poorly run to be fair. I really hope the evil reign of Sadiq Khan comes to an end soon. If you live in one of the poorest boroughs do not expect to get any service but do expect them to try and make money off you at every opportunity. Disgrace.
WORST council ever
WORST council ever, so hard to recitfy one problem. Had a PCN issue ongoing since October 2021. All i need is proof to show I have paid a PCN and they cannot even provide that, the amount of peope I have spoken and forth just to shend me proff of payment is ridiculous. A lot of the customer service staff really do not want to help at all.
Impossible to contact an actual person to discuss permits
Writing to comment on their phone lines which are impossible to navigate and speak to someone. I bought some parking permits for the wrong amount of time and apparently under Newham council Ts and Cs you are not allowed to exchange, pretty sure this is illegal to offer no form of exchange. Quite shockingly scamming people. MiPermit are not allowed to help, without speaking to the council - which is impossible.

My van has been cloned nearly 200 miles away sent the evidence in any body who can read and write could see it had been cloned not these clowns it’s like there edging there bets you will pay the fine rather then dispute the fact it’s not true ,

Poor website , shockingly low standards and high level of complacency
Won't upload documents larger than 2MB. Also no email address to send evidence to, been discontinued. We are in 2021 now yet website overall is of poor quality /slow /outdated, several links have also been removed /do not function. Basic services do
barely work; took council 9 months to sort out my council tax reduction claim . Also had issues with housing benefit staff not understanding /implementing regulations correctly which has caused financial damage & endless stress to me. Tons of money spent on self -propaganda at the same time .
Bulky household waste collections used…
Bulky household waste collections used to be free, and I felt this was an excellent initative to reduce the fly tipping on our streets - with free collections there would be no excuse for such disgusting behaviour. Now they've slapped a charge on the service and I have definitely noticed an increase in fly tipping.

i cant select less than one star. This one star, not enough. before covid, each house can get a free car parking permit for 1st car. Now its shows I need to pay £120 per year for a 1st car. Paying council tax even not taking rubbish properly. Whole area road with a big hole. why we paying ??
Just tried calling my local council
Just tried calling my local council. Was met by a completely automated 'so called' service that requires you to say which department you want to be directed to. This not only doesn't work properly, but I was disconnected 3 times and also put through to the wrong department. Yet another way NEWHAM wishes to distance itself from its taxpayers. They have a nice shiny building and yet NO POST BOX, so you can’t even hand-deliver a letter. Instead you have to pay to send them a letter... even if you live around the corner. But of course they’ll tell you ‘they’re committed to customer service’!!!!
If it wasn't for the fact that I have no choice, I wouldn't use them. One good reason NOT to move to Newham.
Newham service charge overcharged for electricity
This is a genuine review, I am not an "invited" review.
I am a leaseholder in E12 London along Lawrence Avenue, Newham Council are the freeholder. Newham seem to continually make mistakes with the service charge and caretaking. In particular feels like they overcharge for the communal lighting, often thousands for a few lightbulbs. Last time they checked, they found they had wired into some council tenant's flats for heating. Very disappointing service levels, well below adequate.
