Amazing experience buying my wedding ring from Myia. I had a consultation in her studio in Hatton Garden’s, she offered great advice and it really felt like a bespoke service. I am so happy with my ring!
Awful Quality, Horrific Customer Service
Myia Bonner is not part of the National Association of Jewellers (NAJ) and I shouldn't have been surprised to find this out. I tried to go through them to settle my dispute but couldn't as Myia Bonner is not a member.
I ordered a platinum wedding band in January 2024 for my wedding on April 6th 2024. At first I was so pleased with the ring as it looked stunning. 5 days into wearing my wedding ring (alongside my platinum engagement ring), I noticed a black line down it, dark smudges on the outside and inside around this line and a general darkening of its colour compared to my engagement ring. (When I first purchased the wedding band, it was the same shade as my engagement ring.)
I was very disappointed by this and emailed Myia Bonner. I asked for a refund but she only offered a repair. The advice from Which? was to accept the repair as I had owned the ring between 30 days - 6 months (despite only wearing it for 5 days). I accepted the repair, paying myself for special delivery. I asked Myia Bonner how this happened to a platinum ring but she ignored that question.
I received the repaired ring. There was a very slight groove on it but the colour was correct. I wore the ring for approximately 30 hours and noticed another line and smudge had appeared. These were not as dark as the previous time but still clearly visible and much darker than platinum should be. I emailed Myia Bonner again, with photos. She said to return it and she would give me a refund, explaining that is was 'reacting to something'. I am still confused how a platinum ring reacted to something, especially when my platinum engagement ring (worn next to it) did not. (After one failed repair, within 6 months of purchase, you are entitled to a full refund as per the Consumer Rights Act 2015.) Again I paid for special delivery. A few days after Myia Bonner received it, she emailed saying that the ring didn't have the marks on it and was not faulty so wouldn't refund it. She offered me a choice of:
-a refund -25%
-a replacement ring
-my original ring back
-vouchers of the full value of the ring
I had no trust in the products and feared the same thing would happen again so did not want vouchers or a replacement.
I was shocked that she was claiming the ring was not faulty. I sent her an email with a video of the ring (showing the damage after the repair).
She did not reply. I then asked her for a letter of deadlock (because at this point I was hoping to go through the National Association of Jewellers). Again, she did not reply.
I thought my next option was to go through the small claims court. This would mean initially paying a fee (that I could later claim back if I was successful), but most importantly it would take a long time. As I was keen to get some money back to put towards a new ring and wanted to put an end to the situation, I emailed, accepting a refund -25%. Amazingly, she replied quickly! She said she had issued a refund -25%.
Today I received a notification from my bank saying the refund was declined. When I rang the bank to find out what had happened, they explained that they couldn't validate the payment as it wasn't processed correctly. They said it would need to be manually processed. They said they were unable to process it as it needed its own transaction number.
I hoped this situation would have been over by now but it seems to continue. Therefore, I have escalated it and will advocate for my rights laid out in the Consumer Rights Act 2015. The ring was not of satisfactory quality nor fit for purpose. I gave her the opportunity for one repair and the item remained faulty. Warranties do not override consumer rights.
I would strongly advise against ordering from Myia Bonner, especially if the item is a meaningful piece of jewellery, like a wedding ring.
I have been let down by the quality of the ring and Myia Bonner's poor customer service. I will be ordering my replacement ring with a member of the National Association of Jewellers .

I should not need to polish a platinum ring every 30 hours. The need for this shows it is of inadequate quality and you are not meeting my consumer rights. My platinum engagement ring, worn next to it remains in great condition.
I have not changed my mind. I am very upset and without a wedding ring, despite being newly married. I am having to wait until I have the money to order a new ring from a more reliable company.
I had raised it with the bank before I contacted you and I explained what they said.
