A Tale of Two Standards of Care
From feeling like a "microwave ping" to being treated like a human being
I am writing this review to share my experience as an individual with complex needs, including autism, Tourette's syndrome, and dystonia. For a long time, my experience with this care service was a constant battle, and I want to highlight the massive contrast between how I was treated by them versus the standard of care I receive now from a company that actually understands me.
With this company, the management and coordinators felt entirely robotic and dismissive. I felt like I was just a number to them. On non-shower days, carers would routinely run out the door within 5 minutes. On shower days, I was supposed to have a full 1-hour slot, but they would rush through everything and leave within 30 minutes. Not only did they rush, but many were incredibly rough, scrubbing my body during showers until I was turning bright red, completely oblivious to my fragile skin and hypermobility syndrome.
The lack of basic care was deeply distressing. At the very beginning, the original coordinator assured me that getting hot porridge made on the hob was perfectly fine. But as soon as the carers started, I was told "we don't use hobs, we don't touch medicines, we don't do this or that." Instead, they expected me to rely entirely on microwavable meals. For many people, including women dealing with complex hormonal health, a forced diet of processed microwave food is unhealthy and completely unacceptable. Because of this rigid, lazy approach, I often went without breakfast entirely.
The distress to my autism worsened significantly when the company decided to split up their care areas between the G74 and G75 postcodes. When they changed my care plan and split the areas, they moved the gentle, good carers who actually understood me over to other areas like Strathaven. It felt like they intentionally took the gentle carers away from me, leaving me with staff who gave absolutely no encouragement to eat or support my complex routines.
Worse still was the complete lack of safety, dignity, and respect for my physical and sensory needs under the Scottish Care Standards. I even had a severe incident where a carer dug her nails into my head. When I explicitly requested that this person never be sent back to my house, the coordinator completely ignored my wishes and kept sending her anyway.
The management's communication was non-existent. I forwarded the manager an email from my psychologist along with my official autism report so they would finally understand that I need a gentle hand. I received an automated reply back stating she was out of the office and returning on the 12th of December—she had literally left her automated holiday message on from Christmas the previous year and hadn't checked or updated her emails for months.
When we were supposed to have a meeting to discuss the safety failures and the incident with the carer, they put in a replacement carer for my shower day who showed up late, meaning the manager cancelled because she had another meeting. We rearranged, but my immune system lowered and I had to cancel. The manager never once reached out again to reschedule or check on me. Later, I suffered a vascular systemic crash and had to be nebulised by an ambulance crew. After this severe medical event, the coordinator told me that she and another woman from the office were going to come out to see me—but they never showed up. During my final week with the company, I never heard a single word from the office to check in or wish me well.
I am now with a new care company that truly understands autism and complex needs. They treat me with a gentle approach. My new carers actually make my porridge on the hob, wash my dishes, offer to clean my bathroom, change my bed sheets, and have even offered to paint my nails because they know I struggle with dexterity. Everything that this company refused to do—claiming it didn't fall under "personal care"—my new company handles seamlessly because they see me as a human being.
Management needs to stop treating vulnerable clients like numbers and start living up to the care standards they claim to provide.
Nothing good to say about this Agency
They refuse to answer emails, change the amount of time that the Council has allotted without warning or explanation, send very aggressive carers, many carers have absolutely no interest in their clients, jobs are extremely shoddily carried out, timetables are not adhered to, filthy shoes brought into the house, one carer even used a dirty floor towel to dry my mother after a shower …. And I could go on. Would honestly recommend that this Agency is not used by anyone who has an interest in the level of care being provided.

Not worth one Star . Carers are regularly hours late and the Manager refuses to take any action ie getting a more reliable Carer to take over . The Manager argues and in next to useless ...
Terrible carers
After moving home late last year, I was given this care company in the Lothians area to look after my personal care needs including moving and handling. After only 3 days they hoisted me the wrong way and ended up nearly strangulating me! Co-incidentially I was admitted to hospital 2 days later and thank goodness the hospital reviewed and changed my care provider. Avoid this company whenever possible.
My wellbeing been abused by Myhomecare
I'm a widow with no family.
Unfortunately I have been in the unscrupulous "hands" of myhomecare.
In the beginning, the carers where punctual and, some of them kind and well trained but, some appeared, immediately, to be bullish to the point, I was scared about them.
Soon, they started to be late, no point to have a double up if one arrives 20/25 minutes later than the first one.
Always excuses for leaving me without food, medications, let alone domestic care. The agency, suddenly, stopped,even, the most basic kind of kind of exercise, 5 mins in the morning, that the physiotherapist recommended.
When I tried to voice my concerns, the management, never let me finish a sentence, talking over my voicle and twisting the words according to their convenience.
Myhomecare never sent me a rota or fulfilled their duty of care.
If you care about your loved ones, please, avoid this agency..
To anyone interested, I can provide pictures, videos and dates of their malpractice and mistakes.
I cannot enter into many details because I worry for my own safety, they are unscrupulous, dangerous, vendictive people.
Take my word, I'm only the last one of a long list of clients that Myhomecare, lost in the last a few months.

Yet another issue with Mihomecare. You sent a carer that is so lazy I had to struggle to finish what she didn't do. She just pours the toilet cleaner in and leaves it...i cleaned it. She didn't bother to clean the floor in the bathroom asked if she needs to hoover? Got angry because I said yes. Then she came back days later. With a nasty cough! I have a weaken immune system due to my current condition. If I became ill I would end up back in hospital. Mihomecare do not care what they do. They are the worst carer agency, service is very very poor, horrible awful to deal with they do not care about anyone's welfare.

Careless Carer ...

Commode Brakes!
I have been with your company just two weeks now and on three occasions the brakes on my commode have not been reapplied, after moving the commode from the lounge to the bedroom in the evening. This is inviting an accident to occur, and yet your carer would have had to release the brakes to move the commode. I had a conversation with your member of staff about commodes and brakes at the time of signing up with your company, who assured me that your staff were all well trained and safety first was placed very highly.
Were an accident to occur at nightime to me, because of a carer who didn't do their job properly, I would almost certanly end up, back in hopital because of this. I hope not to have to make this complaint again. Mrs.Janet Wickens.
