Lewis the Sales Executive was very helpful, no hard sell, gave me the keys to look at a vehicle model I was interested in and let me spend some time looking at it. They did not have the vehicle in the colour I wanted so Lewis showed me some models from other branches and I agreed that it should be transferred to Edinburgh, the transfer took longer than I expected but was in excellent condition.

Easy transaction, I did everything on line before I went to Edinburgh,I chose the car, they offered me a half decent price for my part ex, when I got there everything when smoothly, did the transaction, went home and very pleased with my purchase.

Team was friendly and helpful. I was able to test drive my car and got a good deal on part exchange of my old one. My new car was clean and presentable and as advertised. The price of my car was also perfect for my budget. Very happy all round.

Lewes made us very welcome from the off. Very relaxed, no pressure at any time. He explained everything very clearly. Absolutely no complaints and would recommend Motorpoint without hesitation

Visited the Portobello branch on 12 Oct 26. At first it seemed really good, there were no pushy salespeople and they just let us look on our own. The issues started when the car we took for a test drive, got sold whilst we were in it. (Should have been a warning sign on how disorganised they are) They had a similar one but it had slightly higher mileage and wasn’t quite as nice, but we really needed a car so we decided to go for it. We were promised on the Saturday it would get MOT’d before collection and we could test drive it with no obligation on the Tuesday evening. On the Monday we were told there was an issue as they couldn’t get it MOT’d. We figured it would be a couple of days so we would wait. Then we were told via email on the Wednesday - with no apology - that it couldn’t be done for a further 9 DAYS. That evening the salesman left a voicemail which kept cutting out and I had no clear idea what was happening.

What followed was a day of me trying to get hold of them with little joy, finally getting hold of the salesman’s colleague that evening who told me both my contact and the manager we’d seen were both off (and obviously their phones rarely get answered when they’re out?!) there is also no option to leave a voicemail either.

I know things can go wrong but it’s how you deal with it that counts. Motorpoint really didn’t deal with it very well.

The upside of this is whilst holding for the aforementioned call on Thursday evening, (when I actually had that rare conversation with a human) I went online (carsupermarket.com), found the same car with considerably lower mileage for almost the same price, with a fresh MOT, a more recent service and with a better warranty. So I reserved the car, got a call back within 15 mins and the transaction got sorted the following morning. Super efficient. Just had confirmation the car is being delivered on Tuesday.

So I’m sure Motorpoint would have been fine if everything had aligned but their system doesn’t work when there are issues. If this is what they’re like BEFORE you’ve paid the money, imagine what they’d be like after! You have been warned.

As an older person I am not quite up to all the new technology and IT.

Given my experience with Motorpoint, I will never purchase a car from them again

The purchase itself was positive, and I was initially pleased with the service. However, concerns arose when I contacted my local Kia dealership to arrange a service plan. Questions were raised about the vehicle’s service history and whether it could affect future manufacturer warranty claims.

I contacted Kia’s Warranty Department directly, but they were unable to confirm that any future claim would definitely be covered. This left the warranty position unresolved and created an unacceptable level of uncertainty for a relatively new, expensive vehicle.

Communication with Motorpoint’s Edinburgh branch was also extremely disappointing. Emails went unanswered, telephone contact was difficult, and responses were often delayed. There were times when I genuinely felt as though I was simply being ignored.

Motorpoint’s Customer Resolution team became involved and did their best to assist, which I do appreciate, but even they struggled to obtain timely answers from the branch.

Having since read a number of other reviews relating specifically to the Edinburgh branch, it appears I am not alone in being disappointed with the after-sales communication. Similar comments about difficulties making contact, unanswered communications and customers feeling ignored certainly reflect my own experience.

Perhaps the most disappointing aspect, however, was the lack of empathy throughout the whole situation. I felt that rather than anyone really listening to my concerns and appreciating the stress and uncertainty this had caused for weeks and weeks, there was simply an answer or explanation for everything and very little acknowledgement of what I, as the customer, had actually been put through.

After approximately six weeks of trying to resolve the issue, I decided the uncertainty was no longer acceptable. I had purchased the car believing it came with the reassurance of the remaining Kia manufacturer’s warranty, yet nobody could confirm that future claims would be honoured.

As a result, I accepted a financial loss and traded the car in for another vehicle purchased from an authorised Kia dealer, where the warranty position is clear.

Although the purchase day itself was a positive experience, everything that followed completely overshadowed it. What should have been an enjoyable purchase became weeks of chasing answers, worrying about the warranty and eventually costing me financially just to have peace of mind.

Motorpoint’s position was that, if I remained dissatisfied, I should refer the matter to an independent Alternative Dispute Resolution service, and they provided me with the relevant details. While I appreciate that this option was made available, I found it disappointing that the matter reached that stage rather than being resolved directly and satisfactorily.

For me, good customer service is not simply about how you are treated when a company is selling you a car; it is how you are treated when something goes wrong afterwards. Sadly, that is where my experience with Motorpoint fell very short.

As I said earlier, I would not purchase another vehicle from Motorpoint and, based on my experience, I could not recommend them to others.
