I was researching what ceiling…
I was researching what ceiling extractor to replace failed older one.
The price of Modern Living's extractors were very competitive, plus the model I chose had a further discount.
Because of the proliferation of scams online, I decided to phone Modern Living.
After a reassuring telephone conversation with Craig before ordering. I felt happy about ordering from this company.
I was given a quick free delivery date.
The item arrived on the day within the stated delivery time by APC.
I needed a vent adaptor and this was delivered free of charge the following day.
On installation of the extractor, I realised that the remote control light button was faulted.
Modern Living sent APC promptly to pick up the faulted remote and another was delivered the following day. How good is that!
Modern Living have given me exemplary service. I can certainly recommend them.

Poor Quality Products and Customer Service
Don’t be fooled by this company. Bought a shower enclosure and tray initially thinking I was getting good design at a reasonable price. Delivery was fine. But the shower tray chipped at the corner as soon as it was installed. We overlooked this as not noticeable although not good. But the plumber refused to fit the shower enclosure as it wouldn’t close properly it was clearly a design fault. I called them immediately and they sounded reasonable. Fast forward 7 weeks and they have refused to refund it. They dragged it out so long and offered no means to return it and unfortunately the shower enclosure was disposed of in that time. At no point were we advised of a return address. I think they dragged it out on purpose so we would give up. So unless you are willing to risk faulty products, endure months of trying to get a refund and hold onto a massive faulty product indefinitely just in case they refund it, I would give this company a wide berth. Such a shame because it was a really good impression of customer service at first. Definitely a false one!
In response to the reply, the issue was raised immediately before the Christmas period. So if we discount the two weeks of Christmas this means it still took 5 weeks to get through the process. Is this the normal amount of time to resolve things? No. I have renovated my house over the last 12 months and upon occasion had issues and nothing has come close to the lack of speed shown here. I had to chase every communication I sent, the poor quality of customer service cannot be disputed. For an online company it’s no good at all. The reply to this review was the fastest communication I have had.
Photos were provided showing the default. There were no installation issues as this had been semi installed by a qualified, highly experienced plumber.
Yes perhaps the product should not have been disposed of - this was an oversight caused by the reno process - it could have been returned instantly if proper returns processes were in place. I would have even considered paying for the return if an address had ever been given.
The company is hiding behind processes designed to avoid helping customers.

We need to correct a number of points in this review so that it accurately reflects what happened.
The issue was raised during the Christmas shutdown period, when both ourselves and the manufacturer were closed. As soon as we reopened, the matter was escalated to the supplier and their technical team. This was not “dragged out” deliberately.
To determine whether the issue related to a manufacturing fault or installation, the manufacturer requested specific photographs. These were not provided, which meant the issue could not be verified through the normal technical process.
Despite this, and recognising that support was not available during the Christmas closure, we continued working with the supplier to try to find an alternative way to help. This included exploring a non-standard goodwill return outside of their usual process so that a refund could still be considered.
That option depended entirely on the enclosure being available for collection. A product cannot be claimed as faulty, disposed of without agreement, and then refunded. Once the goods were discarded, any possibility of inspection, return, or credit was removed.
At no point do we advise customers to dispose of goods while a claim is ongoing. Retaining the product is essential if a refund is being sought.
Unfortunately, the decision to dispose of the enclosure removed any remaining route to resolution.

Avoid at all costs. Ordered slate effect shower tray which did not match the photograph advertised whatsoever. Emailed customer service over a month ago with no response. Also ordered the 8mm shower screen, which upon lifting out of the box immediately proceed to break completely upon carrying (nothing was hit so clearly defective - but given their woeful customer service and looking at other reviews there is no point even attempting to try and get a refund).

We would like to correct a number of inaccuracies in this review for clarity.
The shower tray supplied is a stone resin, slate-effect tray manufactured from a mould, exactly as described and shown in our product imagery. The surface texture and drainage fall are subtle by design. The grooves and fall towards the waste are present, as shown in the technical drawings and confirmed by placing a straight edge or spirit level across the tray, which clearly demonstrates the engineered dip towards the outlet. These trays are not machined flat surfaces and cannot appear visually “channelled” in the same way as ceramic or tiled floors. This is standard across all stone resin manufacturers, and we have sold hundreds of these trays without issue.
The tray received matches the advertised product and specification.
The customer did email us on Christmas Eve regarding the tray. Unfortunately, due to the holiday shutdown period, this email was not picked up at the time. However, the issue raised relates to a perceived visual expectation rather than a fault or misdescription.
Regarding the shower screen, no contact was ever made to report damage, breakage, or a fault. All shower screens are supplied in toughened safety glass. Toughened glass does not disintegrate spontaneously during normal handling. Any breakage must be reported immediately so packaging, handling and circumstances can be assessed. As no report was made at the time, no investigation or claim was possible.
We take customer service seriously and resolve genuine issues when they are raised promptly and through the correct channels. Publicly stating there is “no point” contacting us, while not having reported the issue, is simply incorrect.
For balance, we currently hold a 4.5-star rating from thousands of verified customers on a major independent review platform, which reflects the experience of the vast majority of our customers.
We always encourage customers to contact us directly so concerns can be addressed properly and fairly.

⭐ 1-Star Review: Avoid Modern Living Direct – Faulty Product and Appalling Customer Service
I purchased a Premier Slate Stone Ultra-Slim Rectangular Shower Tray (1400 x 800, White) from Modern Living Direct, and it has been an absolute nightmare. The tray was clearly faulty, causing flooding across my bathroom floor due to a slope defect.
Despite multiple professional assessments confirming correct installation, the company repeatedly refused to take responsibility. I provided video evidence and had two independent builders verify the issue. Their team instead chose to deflect blame and offer a token "goodwill" replacement — which I declined, as I’ve lost all trust in the product and the manufacturer.
Since April, I’ve sent multiple emails and formal complaints. The responses I received were dismissive and unhelpful. I formally requested a full refund due to the product fault and the additional costs for damage and reinstallation, but this has been completely ignored.
It is now July, and Modern Living Direct has stopped responding altogether. I’ve been forced to escalate the matter to the Ombudsman — wasting more of my time, energy and money.
Save yourself the stress — avoid this company at all costs.
They do not stand by their products, and their customer service is appalling.
In response to Modern Living's reply - the customer service does not mirror what you are now saying, for example, I sent in a video of the defect with the professionals describing the problem. Your customer service team then said that the issue was the way we had installed the showerhead, when I sent a photo of the fact our showerhead is adjustable and can face any direction, you stopped replying. I have spoken to Citizens Advice today, who have advised court action. You will receive a letter via recorded delivery to your Bradford address in the next few weeks. Whilst a replacement was offered, this is not the issue - the issue is the consequential losses, which is what I have been advised to claim for. It would have been much more helpful for your team to communicate effectively rather than not reply.

We're genuinely sorry to hear you're unhappy with your experience. We take all concerns seriously and always aim to resolve issues fairly.
In this case, the shower tray you purchased was sealed and fully installed before the product had been tested - a step that’s clearly outlined as essential in the installation instructions. This makes it extremely difficult to determine any fault with the product itself, and unfortunately voids the ability to claim for any associated installation or removal costs.
While we respect that you sought opinions from your installer and neighbour, the tray design and quality control process make a manufacturing defect of the kind you describe extremely unlikely. These trays are precision-moulded, and significant faults of this nature would be evident prior to installation.
That said, we did offer a goodwill replacement despite the tray being installed against manufacturer guidance - a gesture that goes beyond our obligations. We're sorry this was declined.
We appreciate your feedback and regret that you're dissatisfied with the outcome, but we stand by our decision given the circumstances and the clear deviation from the recommended installation procedure.

Having heard nothing from them by 29th April I cancelled the order. Poor service and I wonder if they actually had stock at all. Wouldn't use again.
