What is the true measure of an outstanding conveyancing solicitor? Is it the lowest quote, or is it the confidence you feel when someone is protecting one of the biggest financial transactions of your life?

For me, the answer was Leigh Rothwell at KJD Law.

From the outset, Leigh's calm, no-nonsense approach stood out. While others might create confusion, he created clarity. While others react to problems, he quietly solves them. Professional, composed and always in control, he turned what could have been a stressful experience into one that inspired complete confidence.

Communication was prompt, advice was clear, and I always knew my interests came first. That's not just good customer service—it's the hallmark of someone who genuinely takes pride in doing the job properly.

Then there's value for money. Anyone can offer a cheaper fee, but real value is measured by expertise, reliability and peace of mind. By that standard, KJD Law delivers exceptional value.

If you’re looking for solicitors who communicate proactively, keep matters moving and demonstrate a good grasp of the conveyancing process, our experience suggests you should look elsewhere. Unfortunately, I cannot give zero stars.

KJD Law acted for one of our buyers in a multiple property sale (in what should have been a straightforward no onward chain transaction with an empty house and a first time buyer) and proved to be, by far, the most frustrating part of the whole process. We experienced repeated delays, poor communication and very little sense of urgency, despite the rest of the chain on the other properties involved being ready to progress. In our view, the issues we encountered with KJD Law delayed completion by almost three months, causing unnecessary stress, uncertainty and disruption for everyone involved.

The impact of these delays extended beyond our own sale. We were informed that the other parties in the chain were unwilling to even exchange contracts until completion had taken place on the transaction involving KJD Law because they had lost confidence that it would proceed predictably. That speaks volumes about the level of confidence other professionals and parties in the chain had in the firm’s ability to progress matters.

The standard of professionalism was extremely disappointing. Straightforward matters repeatedly had to be referred to “management”, often taking weeks to resolve, leaving us with the impression that our buyer’s conveyancer was unable to deal with routine issues independently. Enquiries were also raised that were plainly irrelevant to the property being purchased and should never have been necessary. Even our own solicitors expressed serious concerns about the quality of the work being carried out and felt compelled to telephone KJD Law directly to challenge the handling of the transaction.

Communication was equally poor. They repeatedly ignored contact from our buyer, their client, as well as our solicitors and the estate agents. On one occasion, documentation that KJD Law claimed had not been received had, we later discovered, been sitting with reception for several days. This lack of internal organisation resulted in yet more unnecessary delays.

Perhaps most concerning was hearing that our buyer felt discouraged from making a complaint during the transaction because she believed it could result in her purchase being put on hold. Whether intentional or not, no client should be left feeling that raising concerns could jeopardise their transaction.

Prospective clients may also wish to carry out their own research into the firm’s background and the individual handling their matter before instructing them.

We appreciate that conveyancing can be complex and that genuine legal issues do arise. However, in our experience, many of the delays appeared to stem from poor communication, weak case management and unnecessary enquiries rather than unavoidable legal complexities.

We were relieved when the transaction finally completed, but based on our experience we would not choose to use KJD Law ourselves and would not recommend them.

My brother & I recently completed the sale of my late mothers house. When the 1st buyer had to withdraw due their chain breaking down KJD provided great support and started the process again with the new buyer.
