I recently hired a car from this…
I recently hired a car from this company. Overall, the car itself was in good condition and the rental process was smooth.
However, there were two issues I’d like to mention for future customers:
1. The car was handed over with very little fuel. This was a bit stressful, as I was worried whether it would even reach the nearest petrol station. Ideally, the car should be provided with a more reasonable fuel level at pickup.
2. I was strongly encouraged to buy additional insurance, costing almost £100, on top of the rental price. As a first-time driver in Turkey, I eventually agreed, but I already had insurance through Trip.com, which they said they would not accept. It would be better if insurance options and acceptance of third-party cover were explained more clearly and transparently.
Apart from these points, the car quality and overall service were good, and the staff were polite. With a bit more clarity around fuel policy and insurance, the experience could be excellent.
Car change at rental start.
I booked a car through Localrent for five people with luggage. I chose a Fiat Doblo 2024-2025 because it had three individual rear seats and a large trunk.
On the day of my arrival, the rental company representative was an hour late. But the worst part was that the company refused to provide the reserved Fiat Doblo, citing the previous renter's extended lease. Instead of the larger Fiat Doblo, Kim Renta Car offered a smaller Fiat Egea sedan for the same price or cancel the rental agreement. On the day of booking, the Fiat Egea was 26% cheaper than the Fiat Doblo. Of course, on the rental start date, it was impossible to find a similar offer. After much debate, Kim Renta Car only offered to take the Fiat Egea with a 4% discount or CDW insurance.
At the same time, the company had a large OPEL ZAFIRA VAN available, but they were asking full price for it—three times more than the Fiat Doblo voucher.
Localrent, as a third party, tried to resolve the situation by offering another rental company and a Dacia Dokker, but that would have meant another three hours of waiting on top of the two already spent. This wait was unacceptable for me, so I ended up taking a Fiat Egea. Sitting in the back for three adults was quite difficult; the car isn't designed for five people. There's not even a third headrest. The trunk is also significantly smaller—on the way back, not all the bags fit, and we had to carry some in the overcrowded cabin. We were lucky that not all five of us had large suitcases; otherwise, we simply wouldn't have been able to fit.
Since this isn't the first review with a similar situation, it can be concluded that Kim Rent Car employees are intentionally allowing more Fiat Doblo-class cars to be booked than they have in their fleet, in order to rent out smaller Fiat Egeas instead of Fiat Doblos.
Cars are provided with an empty tank. The English contract contains translation inaccuracies from Turkish, such as "the lessor may unilaterally terminate the contract early without explanation or compensation." This, of course, refers to the renter, but Kim Rent Car can exploit this error in the document if it isn't corrected before the rental begins. Furthermore, the contract states that the car is in perfect condition, although in fact there are minor dents, scratches, and chips—it's best to document these with photos or videos before the rental begins.
On the positive side, the car has rear parking sensors and a rearview camera. It's fairly new—16,000 km. The deposit was fully refunded.
I think it should be 1 star out of 5.
Holding the short end of the stick
Even though everyone I spoke to appeared to be friendly, I ended up caught between disagreements between Kim Rent and the booking platform. Unfortunately, neither took responsibility, and I was left as the one holding the short end of the stick.
