the absolute worst customer service I can recall ...they totally stink. Their website is dysfunctional, the Chat option is totally worthless, and THEIR EMAIL RESPONSE FORM DOESN'T EVEN WORK!! Their customer service 800 number is a ticket to a wait so you can talk to someone who doesn't know anything, and then they don't call back. They are AWFUL. Buy from someone, ANYONE, else.

This company makes extremely low quality products.
There are masses of people around the country being woken up in the middle of the night and unnecessarily distressed by the thought that there may be a fire in their building due to their faulty products. This is now the THIRD order from them, each order a set of two, and EVERY one has been defective. Avoid at all costs.
Battery failed after three years
Bought the KIDDE 10Y29 smoke detector as I thought it was a reputable brand and it claimed a 10 year battery life. The battery failed after three years.
Warranty Claim Fail but Customer Service Success
It is understandable that some detectors will fail - particularly those with rechargeable batteries.
Twice, I filled out the on-line warranty forms but never received anything back and was in despair when I saw the wealth of 1-star reviews all saying the same thing.
I revisited Kidde's web site and the "Contact Us" section. This time, I sent in a Customer Service Contact Form. Later, on the same morning, I had a reply from Bahaa Salah at Kidde apologising and telling me she had arranged a replacement to be sent out.
That replacement arrived today and is now installed.
Kidde used to be part of the highly reputable British Thorn group of companies, which included EMI, Ferguson TV's, Thorn Lighting, Kidde Graviner (the world's first automatic aero engine fire extinguisher) among others so I had a feeling all these 1 star reviews meant something was wrong.
My advice is - if you complete a Warranty Claim and you don't hear back within a few days, complete the Customer Service Contact Form and don't forget the proof of purchase. (If, like me, you are in a new build house, send trhe proof of your completion date.)
These smoke alarms are trash
These alarms are trash. Our new home came with 5 of these and they started failing within 1 year. First we assumed it was the batteries but replacing them did not fix the sudden beeping at 3 am. We had the first one replaced per their warranty, then the second failed at less than 2 years and they did not even respond to our warranty claim. We just removed them all right after the second year and replaced them with reliable smoke alarms.

Constantly going off at all hours. No reason for it, no dust etc. we have about 5-6 in our property and everyone is faulty.

False alarms ruining my life
Horrible brand. I live under rent so I have to call to get the fire alarms replaced. Every since I had to get them replaced back in February (they died) I've been having to deal with false alarms almost every damn week and I'm sick of it. I'm scared to go under the alarms because I'm scared that somehow my body heat will make them go off. There is literally nothing that should trigger them but they constantly go off anyways. They've all been replaced at least 4 times now (different models each time) and NOTHING WORKS. ALL OF THEM KEEP GOING OFF. Horrible brand and they should be ashamed for selling such trash

I called to get a replacement for a CO alarm that went bad after couple of years and they made me go through hoops to agree to send a replacement and they do not send any update regarding your order or replacement and you have to call to get update
Aside from that, both times I called, the customer service ladies who answered both calls were extremely rude and nasty and one of them hung up after she told me it will take 15 days to just process the order and when I said “wow that’s a long time”, her reply was “that’s everything I have” and hung up on me

I was staggered to find such an overwhelming negative experience, until reading the reasons ... a false alarm in the middle of the night for such a feared event is scary.
My carbon monoxide monitor failed (with chirps) during the day, in the 9th year of its life.
A warranty claim was simple. An email followed by a request for a receipt (easy with an Amazon purchase).
A replacement was sent by Royal Mail and arrived within 72 hours.
AVOID Kidde Smoke Alarms - They fail within 3 years!
My Kidde Long Life Smoke Alarm with a 10 year guarantee failed within 3 years, with the previous one failing within 2 years. This poor review is because there was no possibility to contact them about this - both on the phone or via their website.
Their customer services is the worst I've experienced for a well know brand.
Avoid their products since they are clearly poor quality. with even poorer customer care. We now know why they are relatively cheap.

Kidde why does the outside of each package never contain the MM/DD/YY date of production required in registration? Why do you have to break the package to locate the DATE? When you buy a 7-10 year replacement item your warranty is from product date not the purchase date! Your newly purchased product may already be 1-3 years or older or have expired? Common sense: Production date must be listed on outside of EVERY packages? BUYER BEWARE!!! Sent a request for free replacements NO! SEALED NEW PRODUCTS WERE NOT PURCHASED FROM KIDDE AUTHORIZED DEALERS? no where do you read this in the warranty that comes with products

We had 7 (seven) Kiddie fire alarms installed by a licensed electrician when we renovated our house. ALL HAVE FAILED. I cannot forget the image of my 4 year old screaming in terror in her room illuminated by the flashing LED. We have replaced ALL of the units with Nest fire alarms without a single incident. Kidde product and customer service is terrible.

Do not buy kidde smoke detectors. We remodeled and purchased 7 alarms. After 2 months they started chirping for no reason. Called kidde support and was told the batteries that come with units are test batteries only. Batteries have to be at least 4 years expiration from date. No help. No apology. No explanation anywhere in packaging that these are test batteries only. For the price they should include the proper batteries. As I said do not purchase kidde smoke detectors.
Alarmingly unreliable
Purchased 7 Kidde KF20 alarms in April 2024.
Shortly after installation one of them woke the household up at 3am with a false alarm. No obvious cause. I then bought a further two, one as a replacement and one as a spare.
Since then three of them have produced false alarms for no apparent reason.
I'll attempt to get some recompense, as these are still under warranty. But I've now no faith in Kiddie products, so won't be interested in replacements. These replaced ionization type alarms which were well past their renewal date. These never created any false alarms.
