I booked a flight with skyscanner Bangkok - Hongkong flying with HK Express. Found out you can't bring a carry-on or you have to pay obscene fees to do so. If you check-in online you can't choose a seat, or you can but you have to pay for that as well.
So checking in online is a big no no... bcs if you do something wrong you have to pay obscene fees for that as well.

Beware of extra charges
Charged extra ¥6,700 for ‘name change’ whilst checking in for baggage drop off because middle names weren’t included in ticket booking. A lot of other customers in the line were forced this too. The app doesn’t allow you to update this so be warned at the time of booking. Have travelled with 6 airlines in the past 2 weeks and only HK Express had an issue.
Also could do better with atleast serving water on a 5 hour flight.

There is no priority check in nor…
There is no priority check in nor boarding for handicapped passengers. At check in, I told the staff that my husband is handicapped (though it was obvious as he walks with a cane) and she directed me to the line that everyone else was lined up in. I told her again that he’s handicapped and it’s very hard for him to stand a long time in such a long line and she replied, “it won’t take long.” At the gate, even worse. I asked for priority boarding because my husband is handicapped. First I was told that he needed to ask his supervisor first. Then they said okay but let about 25 people, families with kids board first, then started boarding all the others. When I asked why we are not allowed priority boarding, I was told he will board LAST! I said no way and went on board with my husband anyway. Never been treated like second class customers like this!
Book HK Express if you like travel stress and surprise charges
A ‘low cost’ airline that claims its money back from you through a multitude of scams. I spent an hour trying to book the ticket with various forms of payment, and the when I was finally able to get through of course it was double the price. I and many other people got called out on not having my middle name in the booking resulting in a large fee. Supervisors are cold and uncaring. A complete waste of time and money- I should have spent more at the outset and would have come out the same financially and would have been a lot happier. Book elsewhere unless you want to be stressed when travelling

I will avoid HKExpress going forward
My experience with HKExpress has been quite disappointing. The overall service has fallen short of expectations. Their customer service is virtually non-existent and highly inflexible, making it extremely stressful to resolve issues. Moreover, there is no clear way to escalate matters to senior customer service managers, leaving customers feeling unheard and frustrated. Their business model is to charge fees and penalties as much as possible, and customer service doesn't even feature in their company values.
Affordable pricing is important, but so is a standard of stress-free travel. Sadly, HKExpress does not seem to deliver on this. As a result, I will be using other airlines in the future for peace of mind and better overall service.
Name change CHARGES SCAM! - Avoid HK Express
If your passport details do not match your booking EXACTLY they will charge you $350.
Their website only allows two first names to be input - I have three. Impossible to add this - I tried.
Supervisor at check in happily told me he had already charged 15 other people the extra penalty fee on my flight, and if I didn’t pay he would not allow me to board the aircraft. Check out their Tripadvisor reviews and see how many complaints - absolute SCAM!
Terrible company
Terrible company, charged us at check in to "amendment name" as we had not included our middle name. I have flown over 100 flights and never once included my middle name and this is the first time I have encountered such an "amendment fee". They are not even cheaper than other airlines and I wish I had gone with an alternative one - avoid
Terrible experience
Terrible experience, i have been trying to buy a flight for 6 times with 3 different cards, all valid and 2 of them used in the same day successfully, and not possible to complete payment always failing, and after failed attempt they are raising the price.
It's really unacceptable user experience, now i am stuck in hk no idea how to reach my next destination, will try again later, but after this i would happily pay any other airline but them

Attention, ils feront tout pour vous taxer, surtout pour nous ressortissants français avec plusieurs plusieurs prénoms sur le passeport, il faut mettre tous les deuxièmes prénoms, les noms de jeune fille, d’usage si figurant sur le passeport. Sinon c’est une taxe de 350$ (à prix 45€) à payer à l’embarquement. Au final, il vaut mieux prendre une compagnie normale.
Way better than expected
Overall the experience was just about fine. After having done research beforehand, I expected much worse! The flight was short, 2 hours, luggage arrived in time, flight was on time.
Only downside to this airline were two things:
1st: the sheer amount of Long and annoying announcements with sometimes obvious and useless information, it was just annoying.
2nd: The behavior of the crew... They were incredibly strict and unfriendly. E.g. didn't allow taking pictures during the flight, controlled and checked whether belts were closed multiple times right after each other, didn't allow the tiniest of bags to be kept in front of you while takeoff etc. Literally omg! probably had to compensate for low self-esteem or so, can't explain differently. Never experienced anything quite similar.
Would I chose the airline again: yes, why not, cheap and gets the job done. Everything else - just ignore
Useless website, app and no contact
No possible to book a ticket - various website and app errors - from general error to payment error.
Contacted them, but still cannot buy a ticket, completely useless.
Flights changed without notice and zero real customer support
I booked a flight with HKExpress scheduled for 8:10 PM, but without any prior notice, it was changed to 7:10 AM. I didn’t find out about this change until I tried to check in — absolutely unacceptable.
When I tried to contact customer service to resolve the issue, it was IMPOSSIBLE to reach a human agent. All they have is an automated chatbot that’s completely useless, providing no solutions and going in circles without addressing the problem.
HKExpress’s customer service is a complete failure. They don’t notify passengers of major changes, like flight rescheduling, and offer zero real support when issues arise.

I cannot recommend this airline under any circumstances. If you encounter a problem, you’re on your own because HKExpress takes no responsibility and provides no help. It’s a frustrating and disappointing experience. Avoid flying with them.

All budget airlines charge if you check a bag so I am not giving them one star because of that I am giving them one star because they charge about $100 to check a bag which is outrageous ( this isn’t Monte Carlo ) and multiple people at check-in had bags that should’ve passed by weight and size but they made them check the bags and pay for it
Awful airline
Awful airline. Hidden, not transparent fees and policies, making the cost of the flight more expensive than flying with a major airline. $15 extra per kg of luggage, extortionate and unjustifiable. Horrible customer service experience, with unhelpful answers and zero attempt at understanding customer needs. Avoid at all costs.
Very bad
I am writing to express my dissatisfaction with a recent experience on a flight from Hong Kong to Taiwan. During the flight, I ordered pasta as my in-flight meal, but it took over twenty minutes to be served. Upon receiving the dish, I found the pasta extremely hard and inedible. When I brought this to the attention of the flight attendant, she was equally surprised by the hard texture of the food.
Although the flight attendant was very polite and continuously apologized, the issue was not effectively resolved. She promised to prepare a new meal for me, but after thirty minutes, there was still no progress. It seemed that the kitchen department failed to follow up on the issue, and even the flight attendant didn’t continue addressing it. Despite there being few meal orders on the flight, I was unable to enjoy any meal throughout the journey. Eventually, out of frustration, as the flight was landing, I was informed that a refund was not possible. I was given two snacks as compensation, but since I was experiencing stomach pain and unable to consume them, I left feeling angry and upset.
Moreover, I struggled to understand why, on a flight with mostly Mandarin-speaking passengers, a solely English-speaking flight attendant was assigned to handle communications. My request to quickly replace the meal with another option was not heard, and I spent the entire flight without food. Upon disembarking, another flight attendant informed me that the crew was new and inexperienced. Several passengers seated nearby also noted the flight attendant's good attitude but observed her lack of problem-solving capabilities and even basic skills.
I am seriously disappointed and dissatisfied with the lack of service provided during this flight. I hope your company will address situations like this and improve in-flight services to enhance the overall flying experience for passengers.
HK Express requires full exact names as on passport but do not make that clear at purchasing stage so they can charge you to make the amendment at the check in
HK Express is dreadful they are obviously only concerned about one thing, squeeze as much money as they can get at every step of their process! beware that they require you to input your full names EXACTLY as on the passport if you just input your middle initial or one of your middle names, they will charge you another 350dollars to add the names as shown on your passport at the time of check in! This is totally unacceptable, when they are in control of asking and specifying clearly what they want at the time of ticket purchasing. All they need to do is clearly state all names exactly as shown on your passport and people will follow. Also how do they create a charge of 350$ for inputting a few letters on their computer screen at check in? CRAZY and very annoying, should respect your clients as clients not just find every possible way to charge another penny!!!

Website is trash. Today at midnight I wanted to book a flight on HKexpress.com. When I was in the checkout I wanted to pay with my credit card. I had to verify, which succeeded but then it says: an error had occured. I tried it 4 times but every single time the payment failed. I called my bank to check if it's the problem of my credit card but it wasn't at all. It's the website. Now I wanted to try it again, 20 hrs later... the tickets are more expensive now!!! What?? I'm not going to buy my tickets there anymore. Trash company, I swear.
