This company is absolutely horrible
This company is absolutely horrible! Every time I have to deal with them there is another problem! The customer service stinks! When you call in the representatives don't have the faintest idea of how to help you and even if they did they usually don't have the authority to do what needs to be done. All the decisions are made by the back office and the communication is horrible! To sum it up Health Equity stinks!
Hold funds for no reason
I funded my HSA to use for medical expenses. The money was taken from my bank account within 24 hours. However, it is not "usable" or "available" in my HSA for 2 weeks. It was a considerable amount of money which is literally being held hostage by Health equity for no reason.
WHERE IS MY MONEY????:
I have been trying to get proof of payment for 5 payments for 9 months. Every time I call they keep me on the phone for an hour and say I will receive the copies in 7-10 business days and I never get the proper cancelled checks. The account number they put in the Memo is THEIR claim number, so there's no way my hospital would be able to apply it properly. The hospital thinks I'm a deadbeat. Multiple dates of experience as I have called every month since August
If i could give it zero I would
If i could give it zero I would. Every function asks me to verify the account and then that form does not find the account. I need to pay bills and this is the worst site in the world. THE WORST SITE EVER MADE. Fix it. Its your job.
Given misinformation, Terrible processes when someone else contributes to the HSA
1) They use AI chat bots and the bots will claim to be human when they're not. I could tell because I was told I was transferred to a live agent/human, and every answer I got would contain "Hi (first name!), Hi (first name!), Hi (first name)!"
2) They make it extremely difficult to let someone else contribute to your HSA account. My grandmother who's in her 90's and not doing well can barely see, hear, or move lately. She wrote a physical check to contribute to my HSA, bless her. I was told I could upload the check and a completed contribution form to the website by one customer service agent over the phone. It would take 5-7 business days she said.
5-7 business days later no movement on that. I uploaded things to the right place. Called in twice, and two agents explained to me that is not their process. They will not accept any form of a digital check if someone is making a contribution in that way. It NEEDS to be a physical check. I was told "I'm sorry YOU received wrong information." That's not how you word an apology.
Have your friend/family member just transfer the money to your bank account so you can deposit it.
Additional note: They use a "smart card". Which is hardly very smart. It will auto decline if you buy something from a store that is not set up a certain way for medical transactions EVEN IF THE MEDICAL SERVICES OR ITEMS ARE HSA/FSA ELIGIBLE. My favorite example: Tried paying for my medication at Walgreens. The express pay declined with their HSA card. Ran the card manually. It worked. Like.. Why??
Absolute trash wanting my hippa…
Absolute trash wanting my hippa information to approve a payment they already made and won't unlock my card which still has 230$ on it yet I still have to make payment until the year is up and won't even be able to use MY money

Avoid HealthEquity if you can
Avoid HealthEquity if you can. I have had to use them at least twice because my employer required it to get matching HSA dollars. Service is poor, fees are charged on everything, and it is hard to close an account without issue. I will never choose nor recommend HealthEquity.
Avoid At All Costs
I would give them negative stars if possible.
They withhold funds (against IRS guidelines).
Despite claims having ALL relevant and necessary documentation.
With varying reasons each time you call.
Scam company. Avoid. Do not put money into an account with them.
Court involvement may be necessary to get your funds.
Awful
Awful. Awful. Awful. The latest changes with required use of passkeys is ridiculous. I’ve tried a dozen times to set one up. It’s nearly impossible. I’ve tried using Microsoft Authenticator, Aura (which stores passkeys seamlessly with other applications), and a half-dozen others with no luck. I literally haven’t been able to check my balance for four months.
It's a scam!
HealthEquity is actually the worst company I've worked with and I'm not even exaggerating here. Ever since my account got created a year ago I've only had problem after problem. I'm 90% convinced they're honestly scamming customers because it's impossible for me to login and do anything with my funds.
Problem #1 - I couldn't set up my account
When the account first got created, they sent me the setup information. I went onto the website to try to create my account. However, even though I entered all the information correctly, it errored out saying it wasn't able to create my account. This happened on mobile as well. I had to call into customer support multiple times for them to just set up my account. All the while, they were charging me money to send paper statements when I would've selected paperless right away but I literally couldn't even get into my account!
Problem #2 - I can't log in to my account on my phone
I have the app and I enter my login information correctly. However, the setup requires a passkey. There is no option for FaceID or a PIN like it says you can do on the website. It just forces you to use an authenticator app. Well I have multiple authenticator apps but all of them say they can't set up a passkey with HealthEquity. I was able to add a passkey on my laptop but that's the only way I can log in.
Problem #3 - My HSA account in Schwab is locked
Once I was finally able to set up my account and log in on my laptop, I created an associated Charles Schwab account and transferred my funds according to the guidelines. Well, I gave it a few weeks and now I want to invest. Wrong. Health Equity set up my HSA Schwab account in a way where I am restricted from trading. Oh and I'm also ineligible for paperless statements so I'm getting charged once again for mail I don't want.
I now have to change how I use MY…
I now have to change how I use MY PERSONAL PHONE due to HealthEquity's login requirements. Be prepared for a lengthy, drawn-out, privacy-invading process.
Today was the second time I had to speak with their tech service to be able to create a login. The first time, I was given incorrect directions, which caused me to have to start all over again. If you can go with ANY other HSA provider, GO.
Terrible customer experience
Terrible customer experience. Denied claims for reimbursement for qualified expenses (orthodontics payment plan reimbursement) repeatedly, with differing feedback provided as to why the claim was denied. Health Equity advised me to contact my orthodontics provider to have them change the payment type from "auto payment plan" to "orthodontics payment," on my ledger to resubmit the expense for reimbursement. They would then pay the claim. Ridiculous - putting the 'blame' on denying the claim to the provider's naming of the charge for the payment plan monthly charge/expense.
Has anyone who works at HealthEquity…
Has anyone who works at HealthEquity actually used this product? I'm completely unable to log into my account from a web browser (any computer). If you try, it directs you to set up the app and a passkey. For a while, I couldn't even set up the app, then when I did, there were so many steps to setting up the passkey. Eventually the app said "your passkey has been set," when I never actually chose any sort of access code. On top of all that, when you try to change certain settings in the app, it takes you out of that app and TO a web browser. The app asked me if I wanted to take a survey. I figured that would be a great time to give the feedback. The survey timed out while I was giving feedback. I've had multiple HSA accounts and this is by far the most over-complicated and the opposite of user friendly.
Crooked Company - very difficult to work with
I've had an FSA Account for years with different companies and never had one isse. Last year an old HSA Account and FSA account were changed by my employer to Health equity. I have spent hours on hold trying to resolve several issues leading to a significant loss of funds. Representatives said Yes Ma'am so many times to me I have lost count with absolutely no resolution to the problem. I was locked out of my account for 2 1/2 months. I made multiple calls and IT requests and was ultimately told I had a duplicate email which created 2 accounts. During this time my FSA funds were being pulled out of my HSA and I was unable to return the funds to my FSA. I also had money from a 2025 procedure billed after Feb 1 & taken out of my 2026 account by Health Equity . I was unable to resolve the issue prior to the end date even though it was their issue I lost a significant amount of money from my FSA account. If I could remove my account I would in a heart beat. It was a great win for their company as I lost the funds to them. Seems like a very fraudulent company.
Worst company EVER!!!!! AVOID!!!!!!!!
Worst company EVER!!!!!
Extremely Poor FSA Administration Experience
Where to begin—this has been one of the most frustrating benefits experiences I’ve had.
Receipts submitted by fax are rarely received the first time, requiring multiple resubmissions.
A large percentage of claims are rejected, even those from legitimate hospital providers.
The company relies on outdated, inefficient processes that lead to repeated calls just to clarify basic documentation.
Overall, the experience is time-consuming, frustrating, and completely lacking in customer focus. Given these issues, it’s easy to see why this company has a 1-star rating.
Inconsistent
I have dealt with this company several times over the past 2 years since they are the carriers for my Flexible Spending account through my employer. I have had nothing but problems submitting claims for reimbursement. I submitted several documents that were approved at one time then turned around and denied at other times. Each time I was given different reasons for the denial and different instructions depending on who I spoke too. This company is inconsistent in their business practices and the training of their employees.
They took my money💰
They took my money💰
Straight up deducted money from my account every month. The phone service cut me off. Card wouldn’t process at register. Out of my $50 they stole $33 and today I was able to recover $17 only because the lady at the register helped me process the exact $17
If there’s someone reading this, stay away from doing business with this company. They should be taken to court and forced to pay back all the money they have stolen from people this way.
Employers should be warned not to associate with thieves like this company because they will take the money from your employees.
Someone is getting rich off something that was supposed to be an employer benefit package. This should be ilegal.
This has got to be the most backwards…
This has got to be the most backwards system in 2026. It is SOOOO difficult to navigate or understand what is being asked of you. When asked to submit more details about a claim, after doing so, I'm told it isn't adequate. Do they give any additional feedback? Nope. Try calling - no help there either. I have never in my life been as frustrated navigating and using a system as I am with this pile of garbage.
