I can’t thank Ross and the team at Gearbox Gurus enough for the work they carried out on my Audi Q8

When my gearbox failed, I honestly didn’t know what to do or where to turn. It was a stressful situation, especially with the cost of the repairs to consider, and I needed someone I could trust to identify the problem and put things right.

From the start, Ross was brilliant. He understood my situation and went out of his way to help by arranging collection of the vehicle and storage while I organised the funds needed for the repair. This took a huge amount of pressure off me and made an already difficult situation much easier to manage.

Once everything was arranged, Ross and the team got to work and completed a full gearbox rebuild within a week. I was genuinely impressed by the speed of the turnaround, particularly considering the amount of work involved. They didn’t simply rush through the repair either; they also checked the wiring thoroughly to ensure there were no underlying issues with the mechatronic system. That level of attention to detail gave me confidence that they were looking at the bigger picture rather than just fixing the immediate problem.

What stood out most to me was Ross’s willingness to help, his communication, and the effort he put into getting my Q8 back on the road. After the automatic gearbox on our Nissan Qashqai failed, I struggled to find a local garage that would be able to work on it. Then someone recommended Gearbox Gurus.

I spoke to Ross and explained the issue, he gave his initial thoughts on what it might be and gave clear guidance on potential costs, dependent on whether it needed fixing or replacing. Once they’d run the diagnostics it was clear that the gearbox needed replacing, as I’d initially feared, Ross was really clear on what the issue was and why it needed replacing. Because the car has pretty high mileage I asked his advice on whether the car was worth sticking with or scrapping, he helped me weigh up the options without being pushy. I decided to go ahead with the gearbox replacement.

The gearbox replacement was quick, with clear communication from Ross along the way. When I went to collect the car, Ross remembered the conversation we’d had on the initial call and we ended up having a chat about the Nissan Qashqai gearbox and cars in general. I also asked for a bit of guidance on what cars are good second hand options for the future and what to avoid, which he was happy to provide. He clearly has a passion for cars and it was good of him to give a bit of extra time.

With both the clear communication and getting the car back on the road, including a years warranty on the work, it was a great experience all round.

I highly recommend Gearbox Gurus. I have a 2016 Audi A3 plug-in hybrid that was having continuous gearbox malfunctions. I initially took it to the main Audi dealership, and they quoted me £13,000 for a total replacement - which was actually more than the car itself was worth.

Faced with writing the car off completely, I took it to Gearbox Gurus as a final resort. The team went above and beyond trying to repair and salvage my original gearbox. When the original unit kept having persistent issues, they didn't give up - they sourced and fitted a brand-new gearbox for £7,750 instead. They saved me over £5,000 compared to the main dealer quote and completely saved my car.

Ross was my main point of contact throughout the entire process and we even celebrated with a beer when the job was finally done!

I had a terminal failure of the CVT gearbox on my Nissan Qashqai. I tried to repair using the oil change method to no avail. Gearbox Guris gave me a straightforward price advising what it could have been then coming back to me once they had the car to confirm. The Gearbox was totally rebuilt with strengthened parts. When collected it drove like a brand new car!

Fantastic service from Gearbox Gurus and especially Ross MacMillan. The repair had to go through the insurance company which presented many many issues and long delays to resolution. I was very lucky to have Ross supporting me throughout the repair, he had very detailed knowledge of my car and its automatic gearbox and this was crucial in getting my gearbox and car back on the road. I've been truly impressed with Ross and the team at Gearbox Gurus. From the outset they were clearly expert - they identified and understood the problem with my 2010 Audi S4 DSG gearbox,; proposed a couple of solutions (I took the best one); their communication was excellent throughout; the price was fair; and they had the car ready exactly when promised. This is a picture of my car and the imported gearbox I got expecting a nice gearbox, well It was not as good as I thought, and did not run well which after it failed to go into overdrive I contacted Gearbox Gurus and the rest is history. Now runs so much better than it did after the gear box was installed by another local Nissan garage.

After I had a bad feeling about another company who let me down, I googled and found Gearbox Gurus, and their feedback was very positive. After I spoke to Ross he put my mind at rest. Very polite, said they could undertake my old 4x4 Terrano and would be happy to work on it and nothing was too much trouble. The time scale of repair was very quick considering the amount of work to be done. I was surprised how quick they repaired and very pleasantly amazed. All collections were done by a nice guy and every care was taken to make sure my car arrived safely at their facilities and returned to me in record time and with care. I strongly recommend them if you are having problems with your gearboxes on your car.. They keep you informed and up to date with things..

We had a very specific issue with our gearbox, and after other garages turned us away or only offered a replacement from Volkswagen, Gearbox Gurus got it sorted.

I honestly can’t recommend this company highly enough.

When I first called, I was told to prepare for the possibility of a £7,000 gearbox repair based on the symptoms I described over the phone. Naturally, I was expecting the worst.

After carrying out proper diagnostics, they found the actual issue was just the wiring loom. Instead of selling me an expensive rebuild I didn’t need, they were completely honest about what had failed. In the end, the diagnostics, repair and a gearbox oil service came to around £500, which was a massive relief.

In an industry where it’s easy to worry about being overcharged, these guys earned my trust. They diagnosed the fault correctly, fixed only what was needed, and got me back on the road without any unnecessary work.

When I first saw all the five-star reviews, I genuinely thought they were too good to be true. Having experienced their service myself, I completely understand why they have such a strong reputation.

A special thanks to Ross and Chris for looking after me throughout the process. Ross even topped me up with some engine oil before I left, which was a really thoughtful touch.

If you need an honest transmission specialist who puts diagnosis before replacing parts, I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them.

My car was collected from my home in Cornwall on the 6th February 2026 for a gearbox rebuild. I received a phone call that the car was ready to be collected, I went to London on the 5th March 2026, I paid £8,077.20 , 3 hours into my journey back to Cornwall the car started to go wrong juddering in 1st 2nd and 3rd gears got home, the next day I had to go to Truro a round trip of 28 miles on the way back car would not change gear properly. I rang gearbox gurus on the 6th March 2026 they said the would come and collect the car which the did 36 days later on 14 April 2026. It took them another 67 days to repair my car, collected my car on the 19th June 2026 filthy dirty grubby drivers seat and food wrappers in the drivers door card pocket. No apology shocking service ,it is now the 16th July no response from Gearbox Gurus. I would not recommend this company.
Todays date is 22nd July 2026 my car went to Audi Truro today for a Amplifier coding, Audi do a health check as standard what did they find OIL LEAKING FROM THE GEARBOX JUST ONE MONTH AFTER COLLECTING MY CAR. The car will now sit on my driveway once again until it can be repaired.

Terrible garage, would NOT recommend.

I contacted Gearbox Gurus to have a gearbox jerking issue diagnosed and repaired after receiving an expensive quote from another garage for a complete gearbox replacement. I chose Gearbox Gurus as they advertised themselves as specialists that offer cost effective rebuilds. Speaking to Ross also increased my confidence in the ability of the specialists in the garage and their extensive experience with automatic gearboxes and especially CVT transmissions.

After more than two months of the car repeatedly going back and forth to the garage, the problem still hasn't been fixed. Following a valve body replacement, the car was still jerking at low speeds and following a very expensive full rebuild, the car was revving and not accelerating.

I understand that some faults can be difficult to diagnose however after two months and multiple repair attempts, I expected an apology and a prompt repair (and compensation). Instead, I've been told that the garage is full so they can’t take my car in and that their boss is on holiday. The whole process has been incredibly frustrating and the quality of customer service abysmal. I’ve been left without a reliable vehicle for an extended period of time which has caused significant disruption to my daily life.

Unfortunately, based on my experience, I wouldn't trust this garage with major mechanical repairs and wouldn't recommend them to others.

Excellent experience with Gearbox Gurus. My vehicle was stuck due to a broken gearbox and they organised collection on very short notice (this was also towards a bank holiday weekend, their flexibility was amazing). Within a short time frame, my car & its gearbox were completely fixed. Rob was extremely helpful with arranging hands-free collection of my vehicle over the weekend.
