The way fluentu quizzes work is fantastic. Language is always in context-- it appears in example sentences and snippets of video that allow you to hear different accents and speeds. Humorous stock images make words more fun and memorable too. It's a more organic and authentic way to learn languages, similar to how children learn (i.e. how we're wired to learn). Love it!

FluentU is fantastic. I used it to regain fluency in French which I had studied a long time ago and then for German which I didn't know at all.

Now I regularly watch French and German TV without problems (PS I am a native Italian speaker).

just watched the lesson for this video (Saul Goodman visits Walter...) and this is perfection, it has all the elements that you could ask for. I especially appreciated mentions of the infinitive, the tenses, and other uses. I was also impressed by all the uses of a particular phrase in various countries.
I also found out something I had missed about "lo" which I am very grateful for.
I really appreciated the explanations of the referencesto "Tom Hagen" and "Fredo", because I didn't remember who they were despite having seen the movie albeit years ago. That's an extra that just blows my mind!

I spend an hour a day on FluentU because it is entertaining and helps me build my spanish comprehension.

I’ve been using FluentU for more than 5 years, and it has always helped me not only in learning new languages but also in mastering them. After trying many services for language learning, I can guarantee that starting with FluentU and sticking with it would be a wise decision.

I've been using FluentU for Chinese language learning for several years, progressing from beginner to intermediate. I recommend it to friends for learning any of the supported languages. It's based on actual target-language materials, is organized in a usable way, and is supported by a responsive and thoughtful team. Unlike some language-learning apps, you won't run out of new material anytime soon!

This website is great for learning Japanese. It's always improving and adding more content. It costs money but it's totally worth it.

Excellent site for quickly learning a new language! Easy to follow tutorials and you can go at your own pace without any presure to finish a lesson.

Well worth the money!

FluentU has become my favorite tool for learning a foreign language. Sometimes videos seem too long, the number of words endless, my head aches and all, but I guess that’s just what it takes to master a language. No pain, no gain. The tool itself is great, the content is quite entertaining and the technical support is always there if you need it.

Found this service when trying to improve my listening and vocabulary from the intermediate level. Every video is subtitled by humans and in my opinion is far more valuable than apps that just teach in short phrases or single words.

It also has a flashcard function with spaced repetition - excellent for building a foundation of listening and vocabulary. I recommend it to friends who are learning a language.

FluentU is great! I enjoy the experience of learning on the platform -- It's so important to have a good time when you are learning a language, because if you are entertained, you are more likely to consistently learn. The quizzes after each video are helpful, and there's an option to make your own flashcards and organize them as you like. In the evenings, I make a small deck of flashcards to learn the following day. The childrens' songs and Basho are great for beginners, The Question Song is great to learn the question words, there's music videos, and clips from sitcoms. And there's FluentU original content, which is fun and slow.

This is a really good app.. There's so much to choose from and it's divided by levels. I have a Bachelor's in Spanish, but took a few years off. I thought I'd try this to see if it would help get me speaking/listening again. I love it! Unfortunately, I loved it so much I accidentally created 2 accounts with 2 payments. (Don't ask. I'm smart, but I had a moment.) I panicked a little and contacted them. They got me back down to one account and one payment. Seriously, what more could you ask for in a language site? Really rich and extensive program ran by honest business people. Great experience.

With fluent you, I enjoy learning a new language. I can do it in my own time. Set my level of difficulty. Words and phrases are authentic. With the Fluent You app, I can do it on my mobile if I am on the move or with the laptop at home. There is no annoying homework. Fluent, you are adaptive.

Quite close to "The perfect App". After years studying and teaching languages, I always say that there is not the perfect app, but FluentU is one of the most complete and engaging ones among all the apps I have tried (all the most popular ones).

The selection of videos is accurate, and the feature of pausing to read transcription with translation and examples is great. Furthermore, the variety of written exercises is truly helpful, and the speaking tests in the mobile version make this app a great resource.

The only thing I miss so far is a section with short stories to practice reading comprehension, but I have that in another app, so I keep learning with FluentU. Thank you!!!

The best thing about this app is the content. It’s all real, native speaker content, including extracts from the news, interviews, tv shows, documentaries, adverts etc. And there is a lot of it so you can pick and choose the content that interests you. The subtitles and translations for each video are useful and enable you to follow and interact with content that might normally be beyond your level. I also very much like the way it’s learning is structured - you watch a video, then complete exercises on the vocabulary you’ve learned which then pop up as refreshers / revision after a certain number of days so you can revisit them to reinforce what you’ve learned. One small gripe with this is that, as you watch more videos the number of daily revision exercises you get seems to constantly increase. When I first started, I was getting 10-15 revision exercises a day, but after a few months it’s up to 120-150 a day which is incredibly challenging to keep up with. I haven’t found a way of slowing down this avalanche, short of just removing videos once I’m bored of them, which I don’t really want to do. I like the fact that it keeps a clear record of what I have done and been working on.

I’m not sure if it would work for teaching you a language from scratch - the videos seem a bit too random / scattergun to provide the structured learning / progression you would need. I do also find the speech recognition a bit buggy - it seems to have odd moments where it repeatedly tells me “You said XXXXXXXX. That’s not quite right,” where XXXXXXXX is just a load of gibberish that I obviously didn’t say. Sometimes I have to just press continue to accept its version of events and move on.

But all that considered, it’s still a good app, and I’ve broadened my vocabulary considerably by using it every day (ish) for 2-3 months. As I said, it isn’t really a standalone language learning app. Accept it for what it is - useful vocab, reading and listening practice - and use it alongside a structured classroom / learning course for the best results.

And it’s way, way better than Duolingo.
