SCAM ALERT: Paid $78.99 for Guaranteed Pixel 7a Unlock – Code Failed, No Refund, Ghosted on Demands (Nov 2025)

Date of Experience: November 4, 2025

I paid ExpressUnlocks $78.99 (eligibility check $24.99 + unlock $54.00, card ending 8101) for a "guaranteed" network unlock code for my Google Pixel 7a (IMEI: 350555531114469), locked to T-Mobile USA. As a customer abroad without a T-Mobile SIM, I followed their instructions exactly: inserted a foreign SIM, restarted, waited for prompt—nothing. No code request appeared, as their own eligibility note warned ("Please make sure the phone asks for an unlocking code").

They admitted failure in writing (Nov 4, 17:42 UTC): "your device doesn't ask for an unlocking code" and "any unlocking code(s) which have been issued have been voided with the manufacturer and are no longer valid." Instead of a cash refund, they issued a $78.99 credit note—useless to me, as I want my money back, not more services.

Their Refund Policy explicitly states: "If, having worked with our technician to get the code to work, and we cannot get the code to work, you'll be refunded." This was a total service failure—no technician needed; the code simply didn't work. I rejected their $169 Remote Technician upsell (requires Windows PC I don't have) and sent three formal demands (Nov 4-6), citing the policy. Zero responses—pure ghosting.

This is a bait-and-switch: Low entry fee lures you, then upsells when it fails, with no cash refunds. As an international customer, their service was impossible from the start, yet they took my money without disclosure. I've filed a chargeback with my bank, but BBB intervention could force accountability.

Per our terms: "Android phones which don't ask for a code, will be refunded in the form of a Credit Note, due to submission costs, to be used against a Remote USB unlock, if that service is available." The Refund Policy also notes: "No Unlocking Code Prompt: No refund if you purchased an unlocking code, but your Android phone doesn't prompt for an unlocking code when using an incompatible sim card."

Because your Pixel 7a didn’t prompt for a code, you’ll need the Remote USB unlock to proceed. Your unlock code is 1277646125334114, but if the phone doesn’t prompt it won’t be usable — so please initiate payment for the Remote USB unlock via your Tracking page to continue.

I wanted to get my iPhone 14 Pro Max unlocked. They said to pay $24.00. I did just that, and now they keep sending me emails saying to pay $68.00, and they can move forward. I am starting to feel this is a scam. However, they did provide a tracking number once you pay the money and did a chat with customer service to ask how long this process takes, and they stated 2-3 days, and maybe sooner depending on the phone. I am not sure what to do at this point

It sounds like the $24 you paid may have been an eligibility/pre-check or part-payment and the provider is asking for the remainder (e.g. a Premium upgrade) to complete the iPhone unlock. As the terms say, "There may be an additional price to pay for the sim unlock itself, this will be stated on your order summary page prior to purchase." Also note "Premium Services are only relevant to iPhones" and "If your phone requires an upgrade (e.g., from Standard to Premium Service), any initial payments are non-refundable."

We don’t have your IMEI or order reference — that’s essential for us to look up your case. In the absence of any reference, we cannot address your specific concerns. Please either:
- Reply with your IMEI and order number so I can check, or
- Use the Live Support link on your tracking page so we can access your order and resolve this quickly.

I’m honestly devastated. My phone was stolen, and I was just trying to find a reliable device unlocking service to recover access and protect my information. This site looked professional at first, asking for a small initial fee, but then they demanded a much larger payment—over $100—for an “unlocking code.” After paying, I received absolutely nothing. No code, no help, no refund. It feels cruel that after being robbed once, I was essentially robbed again by this website. I strongly believe the positive reviews are fake or AI-generated. Please don’t make the same mistake I did—avoid this site completely

Hi — I’m really sorry this has been stressful. I can see your order from Nov 5, 2025 (four payments: $24.99, $68.00, $28.99 and $28.99 — total $150.97). Your order status shows: "Device doesnt prompt for unlock code, unfortunately a remote USB unlock is not possible for this device." We also issued you a credit note and the unlock code on file is 4705364021712483.

A couple of important points from our terms:
- "An Android device is only able to be unlocked via a code if the device asks for an unlock code when an incompatible sim card is placed in the device."
- "If a handset is reported lost or stolen (or abused), it may well be 'Blacklisted' ... If we undertake an unlock and you find out the phone is in fact logged as lost, stolen or abused, we cannot then refund your payment."

Because the phone didn’t prompt for a code and may be blacklisted/stolen, we couldn’t complete a remote USB unlock and a refund isn’t available in that circumstance — which is why a credit note was issued. You can use that credit note against another SIM-unlocking service (note: credit notes “cannot be used for iCloud Unlocks”).

If you’d like, I can:
- Apply the credit note to another unlock, or
- Walk you step-by-step through the Device Unlock App / next options for T‑Mobile USA if you want to try a status change.

The Google advertising says $25 to unlock your phone. Once you pay they try and sting you with another $68usd. This is false advertising and considering the larger amount is hidden in the fine print. This company should be ashamed of their tactics. Avoid this dodgy business.

Drug dealers of the unlocking phones business

They dupe you in with a competitive price (although I don’t see how charging anything is reasonable) then halfway through the process they say that you have to pay an extra £30 to complete the process. It is probably somewhere in the small print, but it certainly is not a clear and open process.

I got a very rapid response to my complaint, which only went to show that there is a stock response ready to go because they get so many complaints.

Then even worse, now the process is started I can’t go elsewhere, if I want my phone unlocked I will have to stump up the cash!

It’s the tactics of groomer or drug dealer, sucker you in then make it so you have to pay up, there’s no other option. Not the behaviour of a reputable firm, very poor.

This is the the standard answer that I had previously. Just in case it wasn't clear, no, I don't think the additional £30 charge was clear before I signed up, it very much read as a one off £15 charge.

Hola, soy Charlotte. Lamento que el NCK (238614415663) no sea aceptado, ya que su pedido está marcado como "Bloqueado permanentemente". Ya hemos emitido una nota de crédito. Como indican nuestros términos: "Cualquier desbloqueo que resulte bloqueado permanentemente por la red se reembolsará mediante una nota de crédito, debido al trabajo que implica intentar realizar este desbloqueo". Puede intentar lo siguiente: - Inserte una tarjeta SIM de AT&T México incompatible para que el teléfono le solicite el PIN de desbloqueo de red. - Introduzca el NCK exactamente (sin espacios ni caracteres adicionales). - Pruebe con otra tarjeta SIM compatible o retire y vuelva a insertar la bandeja SIM y reinicie el teléfono antes de volver a introducirlo. Si el problema persiste, puede usar su nota de crédito al finalizar la compra (haga clic en "Usar nota de crédito") para un desbloqueo remoto por USB u otro servicio. Si lo desea, puedo derivar su caso a un técnico para que le brinde asistencia adicional; avíseme y lo coordinaré.

SCAM!!!!!!

SCAM!!!!!!! BEWARE!!!! I’ve tried emailing and live chatting for several days now about my phone not being unlocked when it’s being claimed to have been and no one would get back to me! This company is one of the worst unprofessional scams I’ve managed to have fallen for. This company took my money, won’t communicate back when I tried to find some sort of solution, and then threatened to blacklist my phone if I don’t pay them back for dispute fees and pay for the unlocking fee when my phone was never unlocked to begin with! I did not receive any response back after 4 days of trying to contact someone two different ways and I only
received any sort of response back when I left a bad review or disputed the charges with my bank to receive my refund. Absolutely unbelievable this company. If you have a $100 or more to just piss away on absolutely nothing then by all means this is the company for you. But if you’re in a unfortunate financial hardship situation and a contract has left you pretty much screwed and stuck with a phone you can only use when you have WiFi but still have to pay off before you can get service again on it and don’t have $900 to do so, you’re better off just staying in that situation rather than making it 1000x worse paying this company to screw you over.

A couple of relevant points from our Terms/Refund Policy:
- “2.1 It is not possible to cancel your order once it is paid for.”
- “Not Eligible for Refund: Wrong IMEI: No refund if the provided IMEI is incorrect.”
- “13.7 In case of a dispute arising from the use of a stolen credit card, we will assume the device is also stolen and proceed with an immediate blacklisting of the IMEI…”

If you send the IMEI/order number via Live Support or reply here I’ll personally review your case and the communication logs and get back quickly with the next steps.

Please use these codes when prompted by an incompatible SIM:
- NCK = 16894749
- MCK = 27071555
- RGCK = 00000000
- EXTRA = 26244554

Quick steps: power off, insert the new SIM, power on — when the phone asks enter the NCK (then MCK/RGCK/EXTRA if requested). If it doesn’t prompt or a code doesn’t work, reply here and I’ll get our technician to help you step‑by‑step. — Charlotte

The site is a scam…

The site and service is very misleading. Two days ago I ordered an unlocking service for a 17 pro max. The site in boldly says I only had to pay $28 but it was discounted to $25. It advertises instant unlock. After paying the $25 it then says that was only to check it. Why does it have to be check anyway when I’m the customer knows for a fact it’s locked. But still it will appear that’s all that has to be paid.Nevertheless, I paid it. Then it asks me for $68 to get it unlocked because it’s indeed intact locked like I know it was. Hesitantly, I paid it. After about 12 hours, they’re now asking for $174 for premium service to unlock. I reached out to the misleading 24/7 customer service for a refund and even though they tried to convince me to accept store credit, I still wanted store credit as they stated I could get. They have a lot of fine print but per consumer laws I’m entitled to refund. If you dispute transaction for reason legitimately like non receipt of goods/services they threaten to blacklist your phone. I’m posting here now but I’m copying this to ftc and consumer finance protection bureau. Don’t use this site.

Quick facts from your order (placed Oct 29, 2025): you paid $24.99 for the Eligibility Check and $68 for the Standard Unlock, and the account shows "Unlock cancelled by client and full value credit note issued" — a full-value credit note has been issued for those payments to use on expressunlocks.com.

A couple of important policy points that explain what happened:
- "Eligibility Check: These checks are non-refundable." (Refund Policy)
- "There may be an additional price to pay for the sim unlock itself, this will be stated on your order summary page prior to purchase." (Terms 7.3)
- "Credit Notes can be used against any sim unlocking service... simply click 'Use Credit Note' on the checkout page when purchasing." (Terms 7.10)

What I can do now: if you want to proceed we can apply your credit note to finish the unlock (including arranging the Premium Service if the phone requires it), or I can walk you through using the credit at checkout. If you'd prefer that I start the Premium re-submit for you, reply and I’ll get it moving right away.
