My experience this trip was great I had no problems or issues. I got rv on schedule it drove perfectly everything worked good return it no problems.

The registration process is incredibly tedious, even for a CA resident, imagine if you were coming from another country! Besides the RV that looked clean on the outside was clocking 54000 miles and burning more gas than the Gerald Ford carrier at cruising speed. The tire pressure on the dash displayed a "faulty sensor" from the get go, that is until it turned to 1 low pressure tire, then flat (press = 0) We were lucky enough to find an American Tire shop in Palm Springs that installed the spare for us free of charge!
Pick up and return were also in line with the registration: slow and un-friendly. This place doesn't make you feel welcome as a costumer, whatever it is on-line or in person.

We’ve got a very warm welcome at the beginning of arrival and had a wonderful and good feeling from the beginning.
A professional and detailed description from the staff and lots of explanation and recommendations made or reservation perfect. Additionally also a flat tire in the middle of nowhere was not a problem because of a professional telephone service. Thanks for the good trip. Everytime again with you

Had a really good experience with El Monte RV. For starters they're the only local place that allows you to drive their RV's into Mexico... they even sell you the Mexican insurance along with your rental. The staff was great. Highly recommend.

That was the trip of my dreams. Everything about it.
The RV was spectacular. It had everything we needed.
Me and my son travelled for 14 days to the US parks of Nevada, Utah & California. We drove nearly 4000 miles with no problems. We cooked, showed, slept, and practically everything was built in the RV. An excellent experience and a wise decision to rent an RV from El Monte. Their vehicles are easy to work with and well maintained.

Avis très mitigé...
Points négatifs:
- l'entreprise El Monte ne semble pas répondre aux critères de sécurité de certaines banques européennes (ex: double authentification). En conséquence: impossible pour nous de faire le dépôt de garantie (carte de débit ou de crédit, toutes ont étaient refusé car impossible de faire la double authentification) donc on est restés bloqués le premier jour, débloqués le second jour grâce à un ami américain dont la carte (américaine) marchait bien. FAITES TRES ATTENTION A CE TYPE DE PROBLEME, si nous n'avions pas eu cet ami cela aurait pu nous coûter tout notre roadtrip de 3 semaines... Incroyable aussi que le paiement en ligne depuis la France ait initialement fonctionné, pour qu'ensuite on nous bloque sur place avec le dépôt de garantie !
- 2eme point négatif: la maintenance du camping-car, qui est bien souvent demandée AU CLIENT !!! Nous avons dû changer l'huile moteur (avec remboursement ensuite, quand même) en plein milieu du désert (et perdre une demie journée), après un message alarmiste sur le tableau de bord. Pourquoi ce genre de maintenance prédictive n'est pas faite entre 2 clients ????
- dernier point négatif (moins grave): le camping-car est un peu trop standardisé et manque d'aménagements pour le rendre vraiment fonctionnel (coin poubelle, poches pratiques, des étagères utiles et pas juste un grand placard penderie qui ne sert à rien (qui prend des chemises et des costards pour un roadtrip ?))

Les points positifs (quand même):
- le personnel reste très aimable (malgré la politique globale un peu bizarre de la maison mère, voir les points négatifs)
- le camping-car est plutôt joli avec de belles finitions, et enduré bien la route
- la réactivité du personnel El Monte en cas de problème est plutôt bonne
- le check out s'est bien passé, et n'a pas duré des heures

Quick friendly staff. Took awhile to pick up RV due to a family of 30? renting 4-5 RV's lol. All good, the receptionist let me know what was going on. Drop off was a breeze and again with very friendly staff.

I booked through a 3rd party provider only weeks before we departed.
I got quotes from four different companies.

I called Cruise America directly from Australia.

I did this because when we travelled around the USA in our own RV 10+ years ago, they seemed to be the most popular on the road.
The Cruise America agent was so uninterested, and when I said I had a price from a 3rd party provider that was better than his, he couldn't get off the phone quick enough.
The Australian exchange rate is very weak against the USD!
Hiring an RV in the USA when you're located in another country is quite daunting.
You're basically driving around in a house. You have a sewer system, hot water, shower, bedrooms and an engine to move it.
We had a couple of issues whilst on the road: the shower mixer looked like it was going to detach from the wall, and the stove took a special technique to light (which our 16-year-old mastered).

The mixer didn't stop us from showering you just get on with it.

The reviews for all the hire companies were shocking. For this reason, I didn't pre-purchase miles as I saw they were non-refundable and the savings were minuscule. If we broke down and ended up in hotels like some reviewers of other companies had said, we would be out of pocket for the miles.

The check-out process was easy.
Get the agent to start and open everything.
Start the stove, start the generator, roll out the awning, take a photo of the fuel tank and a photo of the LPG tank (ours wasn't full).
I advised the agent when I returned, and they charged us a nominal fee for what we had used, no biggie.

The check-in process at Sante Fe Springs, CA would be better if you could drop all your suitcases, etc in the pre-departure area instead of in front of the boom gates.

The RV was available on time and the check out and then the check in upon return was easy. Do book your pick up time as soon as you can so you have the best options available. Registering online ahead of time saved a lot of time. The RV was just perfect for our weekend "camping" trip. Staff is terrific-they hire well!

Booked and paid over two month ahead for a 6 weeks rental of class RV B vehicle. Arrived from australia and received a defect partially not clean ( finished) old vehicle. Nothing like the advertisement. Waterleaks in shower and roof. Wet bed when it rained. Glass parts kept comming out from under kitchen. ( previous broken glass top from stove that was not replaces nor cleaned up) been told thats it take it or leave it. No other vehicle available. We planned this trip for a long time and saved up for it. Total disapointment as we had everyday issues with this vehicle.

Flawless experience with El Monte RV. The motorhome was perfect. The team was amazing and walked us through every detail and made pickup/return so easy.

Quality of RV was miserable. Broken slideout, broken Generator, House battery Not loading, and serious safety issues (in our Case the tire pressure)
Their Roadside assistance ist horrible. When our Generator broken, WE Had No ac with two Kids (5 and 6) in the desert at 108°F and they were unable to resolve the problem. At all! Not Like the Same day, or maybe the day after, no. Not at all!! WE ended Up completly changing our itinery.
The compensation offered at the end of our Trip die Not even Cover the expenses of the campgrounds WE Had already booked and could Not visit.

I strongly advise everybody against choosing ElMonte.

Lot's of inventory, nice staff.

The pickup (1-4p) and drop-off (8-10a) windows effectively blow two days (that you pay for) off the rental time.

Also, they could use a little more staffing for pickup processing. Only one, nice guy, was dealing with five groups. I ended up waiting over an hour before I could hit the road.

Summary:
We have selected El Monte for our RV - Class C large - rental because we have expected to get an RV in a good and inspected condition with excellent customer service, especially for a rental period of 6 weeks (March 26 – May 5). DMP 082148-1
However, we have been very disappointed and will not return to El Monte Santa Fe Springs for another rental in the future.
The first RV had technical problems (ABS system) right at the start and the replacement RV was handed over with a non-working fridge/freezer resulting in returning to El Monte for another vehicle change. The third RV did work but it was obvious that this RV also was not properly checked and prepared as tools were missing and furnishings had defects.
Details:
Because of our rental period of 6 weeks we have asked El Monte for a newer model and it was confirmed on phone that a Sunseeker 2026 model is reserved.
Arriving at Santa Fe Springs, we were surprised, that an elder Thor model was prepared for us and it was clearly stated that a newer RV is not available.
Then we have inspected the RV and have noted that the mattress was in an awful condition (dirty, saggy). After checking with the management, we have been informed that the mattress will be replaced against a newer one.
Then ready for leaving, we have started the motor and were shocked that the ABS control lamp was flashing indicating that the brake system is not working properly.
Back to the office, the RV was brought to the garage and after another hour we have been told that the RV has to be replaced...
Surprisingly we have got the information that a 2026 Sunseeker will be prepared for us. More than 4 hours after arrival at El Monte the replacement RV (Size large family sleeper marked with Road Bear brand) was ready for leaving. The briefing was kept very short and – stressed and very tired- we have left El Monte for buying food and driving to the first campground.
Now the nightmare continued: in the evening and also first morning (Friday) we have realized that the fridge/freezer does not work (zero cooling, instead warm) although the control panel has shown no failures.
What to do? We have called the on-road assistance first time, a friendly person asked us to switch of the fridge for 12 hours. In the evening no change, fridge still defect.
Another call: El Monte will provide technical on-site support, but hours later we have been informed that no support is available, instead we should by a camping fridge and the support can be organized at a later opportunity.
We have denied this offer, instead we have requested to return to El Monte for fridge repair/replacement of RV replacement which was confirmed. In the meantime, we had to scrap food not being cooled properly.
So, on day 4 of our journey we returned to El Monte getting confirmation that the RV must be replaced, after 3 hours we've got the third RV and we re-started our holidays.
Luckily the RV was fully functional and stable until the end of our holidays, however we have noted failures which should have been detected by El Monte before handing over:
Missing front curtain (behind driver, co-driver seats), broom and basket (present in the 2nd RV)
AC circuit was switched off (leakage current detection switch)
Toilet seat loosen, washroom doorknob loosen, magnetic door holder loosen
shower curtain holder broken, stove cover bended.

Final note: we booked a one-way rental from Santa FE Springs to Dublin.
Our experience in Dublin was much better:
The technical staff was very open to get information about RV problems and noted all of our findings and the management was competent to find a financial compensation which satisfied our expectation. Therefore 2 stars instead of 1.
