When sky conditions are favourable, remaining in a stable viewing area is often the most rational strategy. The Northern Lights occur at high altitudes and are visible across very large regions, meaning that relocation under clear skies does not inherently increase visibility. Movement is primarily useful when searching for breaks in cloud cover rather than “chasing” the aurora itself.

Popular viewing areas near Rovaniemi are frequently used by multiple operators for the same practical reasons: open horizons, minimal light obstruction, accessibility, and safety. The presence of other vehicles is therefore not unusual during active nights.

We acknowledge your point regarding communication. Aurora activity can fluctuate and forecasting is probabilistic by nature, which sometimes makes precise real-time explanations challenging. Clear guest expectations are important to us, and feedback of this kind is valuable.

Aurora intensity can also fluctuate rapidly. A display observed at one location does not represent a limited opportunity that can be “missed” by assisting another vehicle or group. The phenomenon is not tied to a single small area, and visibility is primarily governed by sky clarity rather than proximity to other observers.

Temporary coordination between vehicles or adjustments in group logistics can occasionally occur in Arctic field operations. These decisions are driven by safety and operational continuity rather than reducing any guest’s experience.

We understand that comparisons with images seen online can create understandable frustration. Guest safety procedures prioritise securing the situation, assessing vehicle stability, and resolving mobility issues using available assistance when required. Cooperation between vehicles on remote winter roads is common practice in Arctic regions and forms part of normal roadside safety culture.

We regret if any part of the experience caused discomfort or concern. However, it is important to note that operational incidents are evaluated based on documented safety criteria and post-tour reporting processes.

We would like to clarify a few key points immediately for future readers, as this review contains several factual inaccuracies.

Small group vs large group tours
We offer both small-group and large-group Northern Lights tours, clearly listed as separate products. The experience referenced in this review was booked as a large-group tour, which operates using full-size buses. The product type, group size, and tour format are transparently stated on the booking platform prior to purchase. There is no ambiguity between these options.

Guiding & Northern Lights activity
Northern Lights are a natural phenomenon and cannot be controlled or guaranteed in intensity or duration. That said, auroral activity was observed during the tour, and the excursion was conducted in line with our guiding procedures. Visibility and perception can vary between guests depending on timing, experience, and expectations.

Snacks & logistics
Warm drinks and snacks are provided as described. On large-group tours, distribution is organized and may require brief waiting periods. This is standard practice and not a service failure.

Safety allegation
We categorically reject the claim that the driver was watching video content while driving. This allegation was reviewed internally and with our licensed transport subcontractor.
All vehicles are operated by professional drivers, and all buses are equipped with dashboard-mounted onboard systems displaying text-based operational data only. No evidence of unsafe or illegal conduct was found. Passenger safety is non-negotiable for us.

Photography service
The statement that “one photographer was responsible for 50+ guests” is factually incorrect.
On our large-group tours, we operate with multiple guide-photographers (typically three) working in parallel. Photography is a complimentary, supplementary service and is not marketed as a private photo session for each participant. Differences between professional camera images and what is visible to the naked eye or mobile phones are a well-known aspect of Northern Lights photography.
