A bit misleading
A bit misleading, we were expecting atleast a couple of artists and classical themed music and instruments for babies. It was nursery rhymes at best played by one gentlemen an on the piano. Whilst pleasant, it is definitely super expensive for what it is and should really be more explicit with what the show entails. Lots of better things to do for £36 for a couple.

The concert you attended was a performance of Saint-Saëns’ iconic Carnival of the Animals, a well-known classical work made up of 14 movements, performed here as a solo piano recital with poetry narration. The programme and instrumentation were outlined in advance on the website booking page.
Bach to Baby focuses on bringing high-quality live classical music to families in a relaxed, welcoming setting. Babies and toddlers are free to move, explore and respond naturally to the music, rather than being expected to sit still throughout.
Each adult ticket includes up to two children free entry, allowing families to experience professional live performance together at an accessible price in local venues.

Absolutely extortionate for what it was. It was one person playing a few songs on the piano with some poems in between. There was nothing 'Bach' about this event and definitely not worth £15 a ticket. The children all very quickly became disinterested. We assumed it would be an orchestra or at least a few different instruments. Very disappointing.

Each Bach to Baby event sets out the programme, repertoire, performer and instrumentation in advance on the website, and our concerts vary across the year. Some are solo piano recitals, others feature duos or small chamber ensembles, depending on the theme and advertised programme. It sounds like you attended a piano recital with poetry narration between the movements.
Our aim is to share high-quality live classical music in a warm, relaxed setting designed especially for families. Our repertoire is wide ranging, including and also beyond Bach. Babies and toddlers are always welcome to move about, explore and engage with the music in their own natural way. Some little ones are completely absorbed, while others prefer to wander or listen in bursts. And that freedom is very much part of the Bach to Baby experience.
Each adult ticket includes up to two children free entry, helping families enjoy professional live music together at an accessible price.

Today was the first time that I had attended one of these events. My daughter and I took her 11 month old son to the Walthamstow event which we all enjoyed. My grandson was mesmemerised and really seemed to enjoy it. The concert was well attended and the children were all remarkably well behaved which indicated to me that they also enjoyed the experience. The pianist was very good and the presenter read poems, introduced each animal with its noises ( this was Carnival of the Animals) and included some nursery rhymes all of which helped to engage the children.

this was our first time at Bach to Baby (our friends who we went with had been a few times before)!
The piano music was very good and we really enjoyed the theme of the moon including the nursery rhymes!! Our 2 year old really enjoyed the nursery rhymes and the actions and was infatuated with the Irish girl in the white shirt’s singing voice! Her, and the rest of the staff were very helpful and engaging throughout the concert.
the concert could have maybe been made better with some soft seating for the kids as ours got a bit impatient on the chairs - but otherwise it was a great way to spend a sunday!

This was our second Bach to baby…
This was our second Bach to baby concert and we will see more and more. The performers were great!
The only downside is that this time we did not have space for the kids. We parents may have preferred t see kids chairs that all for adults. That would have been easier for us as it happened on the London bridge venue where the kids were free to move.

Venue layouts do vary quite a bit across our series, especially in our historic and community focused buildings, and at busy Christmas events the space can feel fuller than usual. Children are always welcome to move about safely with their adults in the space available, and our team is happy to help families find a comfortable spot on arrival.
I’m glad to hear London Bridge worked well for you previously, and we hope to welcome you and your little one again at whichever venue suits you best.
Wonderful concert with brilliant…
Wonderful concert with brilliant performances. I just felt it could have been more baby friendly, I spent the whole time stopping my one year old from trying to get to the stage bit and then she put her hand on some wet paint stars on the windowsill. Others were struggling to keep babies still and quiet on laps. I would suggest a soft carpeted area with toys where babies can play safely during the concert.

We think families and children deserve to enjoy and be inspired by the very best artists, so we have always sought out musicians at the very top of their game who love sharing their music with a family audience in an up-close-and-personal way.
I appreciate that your little one putting their hand on some wet artwork on the windowsill must have been frustrating. I hope it washed off OK.
Children are very welcome to come down to the front or move about safely with their adults as suits them, and our team is always on hand to help families find the space that works best for them. We don't ask or expect parents to try to keep their children quiet at our concerts - we expect children to be children, which naturally means they will make noise during the concert whether that be crying, babbling, humming or singing along. This is what Bach to Baby is all about!
The layout can vary from venue to venue depending on the space and expected audience size, and at our Christmas concerts we often use different seating arrangement to accomodate our larger audiences. Lovely Christmassy concert
Lovely concert. Pianist and singer were very good - professional musicians but still quite fun. My baby (just under one year old) was engaged the whole time. I just thought the set up was not what I expected for babies. I thought we probably would have some carpets and floor sitting. We had normal chairs which was not ideal in my opinion.

I’m really sad to say that is…
I’m really sad to say that this experience was disappointing. It’s a lovely idea, and obviously something that is well sought after but it just wasn’t rightly pitched for the audience, it was overpriced for the experience, and could have been a lot more baby friendly. The musicians were very talented but it just was not enough, there needed to be more variety.

It was good but could be better
It was good but could be better. For us it was overpriced for 2 parents with one child (£18 each) for the experience at Balham. My son loves seeing instruments & live music but one man and a piano, whilst good, didn’t offer the variety of interest for the whole time. We’ve been before when there’s been a variety of different musicians and it made a real difference. I hope it helps to know this feedback as I suspect that’s what clinches whether we or others will go back. Alternatively drop the price as something doesn’t quite match here. Thanks

For this particular Christmas programme, we chose piano and narration to bring the magic and stillness of the iconic poem to life in an intimate way.

Love the concert. Some logistical issues prevent 5 stars
Unlike some of the reviews I loved that it was classical music as opposed to nursery rhymes etc and my 8 month old was transfixed. And it's such a privilege to be able to watch such fantastic musicians in a more informal setting.
Things preventing a 5 star review were the queue to get in (would have been more detrimental if the weather was wetter) and the fact that the buggy parking is a bit chaotic.
My location isn't an option in the drop downs but it was Wimbledon central

My children and I had a lovely time
My children and I had a lovely time. There was a harpist who played Vivaldi's four seasons and included a few easy movements for the children to take part. She was also accompanied by another lady with a lovely voice and offered support. It was held in the beautiful St johns church in east Dulwich and children were able to move around freely. We sung a couple of christmas carols at the end too. It lasted 45 minutes which i think was appropriate given the age of the children.

Hugely misleading
Hugely misleading, the marketing needs some work unfortunately. It’s described as a concert and by using “Bach” in the title suggests it’s a classical concert with multiple performers and a variety of instruments. However it was a lady with a guitar singing Christmas carols. For £18 per ticket, it was a serious disappointment. The host was friendly and the woman had a lovely voice, hence not 1 star review. Would not recommend, I would drop the price and consider more performers! Good luck guys.

Really quite disappointing
Really quite disappointing. We went to the Christmas concert with the Sound of Music and they had very little music to engage or entertained the children as this was child focus session. I thought there would be more Christmas songs and nursery rhymes in a classical way to engage kids, it felt very chaotic and halfway through the session all the way to the end it was quite disruptive with lots of children struggling to pay attention and no engagement.

Our Sound of Music Christmas Sing-Along with seasonal carols is one of several different programmes we run over December. Each concert in the Christmas series has its own theme and musical line-up, and families often choose between classical favourites such as The Nutcracker, The Snowman or Vivaldi’s Winter, jazzy Christmas events, or story-led performances like Twas the Night Before Christmas. All of our Christmas concerts include a set of familiar sing-along carols, and the website notes that programmes vary by location so families can select the one that suits them best.
All of our festive events are presented in a relaxed, baby-friendly chamber music format, with little ones welcome to move, listen and enjoy the music in their own way.
I’m sorry this particular programme didn’t resonate with you. If you ever decide to come again, I’d be very happy to help guide you towards a programme or instrument combination that might align more closely with your children’s interests.

We are huge fans of the Bach to Baby experience! We've been taking our 3 year old daughter to the concerts since she was a baby and we recently brought our newborn along as well to a Christmas concert. The quality of the music is fantastic, they appeal to a range of ages and the concerts are the perfect length and mix of children's and classical music to hold the audience's attention.

Extremely disappointed
Extremely disappointed. So much so that we left after 30 mins. The website shows multiple musicians playing and being interactive with the kids. What we had was a harpist and a lady waving a red flashing star. Whilst the musician was talented, a harp is never going to cut through the noise of babies crying and making noise. It was £18 per ticket and we feel hugely let down. I wouldn’t recommend this to anyone. It was at a church in Teddington. We’d have gotten a better experience going to the church for carol singing. We had such high hopes for this but feel quite scammed out of our money, actually. £36 for two adults and a toddler. Please save your money and go to something else!

The Teddington event was clearly advertised as a harp recital, and the programme on the day reflected that listing. Across the year we feature many different musicians, instruments and themes, and all of the photographs on our website are genuine images taken at our concerts, showing the variety families can enjoy over time.
For our Christmas series the ticket price is £18 per adult, which includes free entry for up to two children on the same adult ticket. I hope this helps give a clear picture of how the pricing works for families attending together.
Our concerts are designed to be baby-friendly live music experiences where little ones are welcome to move, wriggle, make noise and settle in a way that feels natural for them. Many families like to sit closer to the musician for a more immersive experience, and there was space available for those who preferred that.

Lovely family-friendly short concerts
Lovely concerts with very good musicians and easy to attend with children, though it would be nice to have a bit more interaction / activity for the young children e.g. a circle in front with a bit of a "class" and/or movement and exploration of the music or instruments (I did attend another B2B concert in the past that seemed more interactive than this one). Not cheap either to attend but at least the quality of the musicians is good!

We do vary the level of interaction depending on the programme and the instruments featured, so some concerts naturally lend themselves to more movement or exploration than others. Really nice Chrismas special
I went to one of the Chrismas specials where they were narrating the story of the Snowman with a piano and a flute. And also signing some carols in between. It was lovely I really enjoyed and I've booked the next concert the following month. There are toilets, baby changing facilities, pram parking area and the venue was very nice, at the church Haven Green in Ealing Broadway.

Could be great
Lovely music but not what we were expecting. The photos depict babies crawling around the floor, playing and listening to music but this concert was more like a church service and I struggled to keep my restless baby on my lap for 45 minutes. It was also really hard to see the pianist for most people. I think these events could benefit from being more interactive and baby friendly - not just baby tolerating. It's a shame as the concept is great!

All of the photos on our website are taken at real Bach to Baby concerts and show the range of settings we use across the year. Some venues offer lots of open floor space, while others work best with seating, but we always aim to create a warm, baby-friendly environment where little ones are welcome to wriggle, wander and respond to the music in their own way. We certainly never expect babies to stay on laps for the whole concert, and families are always welcome to move around and find a spot that suits them.
We feature many different instruments and themes throughout the year, and some programmes naturally offer more opportunities for children to come a little closer to the musician. I went with my 2-year-old and my 5-month-old to the "Sound of Music" concert, and both of my girls absolutely LOOOVED IT!! (and so did I :) )..
The performers were amazing, and they introduced a few Christmas classics in between every couple of songs, and we honestly had the best time - so thank you everyone!

Hi Laure, thanks for such a joyful review! I’m absolutely delighted to hear that both your girls LOOOOVED the Sound of Music concert, and that you did too. It’s such a treat for us to see little ones of different ages enjoying the music side by side.
The Sound of Music is one of my own all-time favourites, and it’s so closely tied to that cosy Christmas telly feeling for me. I’m really glad to hear it brought that same festive sparkle to your day. And I hope you all had a good sing along with our wonderful soprano as well - she loved leading those moments.
As a small family-run team, we’ve always wanted these concerts to feel like an easy, welcoming outing for families.It really means a lot to hear that it felt comfortable and joyful for your family.
