Took an active/adventure tour and there were plenty of exercise opportunities available, of which we took advantage. We were able to really see the countryside and villages, and beautiful architecture as well as continue a physical fitness program.

Great staff. Pretty boat. Delicious food. Great excursions. Such a comfortable mattress! Large bathroom in stateroom. Loved that we had a land portion first and got to know many people before we started on river cruise. Great cruise director- Allessia. Loved the itinerary from Basal to Amsterdam.

Avalon and it's representatives are polite, extremely friendly, very responsive to changing conditions and well trained on their jobs. They take all of the uncertainty and stress out of planning and executing a wonderful adventure.

The staff did a fantastic job especially since they were faced with a bedbug problem before we could board the ship. The rooms are laid out nicely and bathrooms are a lot more spacious than ones on other River cruise ships. The food was average and uninspiring. Several of the excursions were unimpressive. All in all, we had a good experience.

Absolutely amazing cruise in Vietnam/Cambodia with excellent local guides, fantastically well organised, and outstanding customer service. The staff had thought of everything, including refreshing our water bottles on hot days during our tours. Food was amazing. The smaller boat than other tours meant better access. We visited a lot of local communities and villages. Doing Tai Chi on deck on the Mekong at sunrise was a highlight!

Terrible customer service.
I contacted Avalon with two straightforward questions: one about general company info needed for my visa application, and another about the amenities included on the cruise. The agent couldn’t answer either and simply told me to read the website myself. If they can’t handle basic questions, that’s a serious concern. Very disappointing.

If I could have rated 10 stars, Avalon Envision deserves them. I just returned with my family - it was an incredible experience. The entire staff makes you feel like you are the most important person on that cruise. The food is wonderful, the boat is impeccably clean and comfortable. They go out of their way to make sure you are happy. I have never been on a Viking cruise so I can't compare. But just because a company advertises a lot, doesn't mean they are the best. When I am ready for another cruise, it will be with Avalon, to me-the BEST.

My husband and I traveled to Europe last October with 2 other couples for the Amsterdam to Basel Rhine River cruise. We also booked an extra day in Amsterdam and a 2 day extension to Lucerne. We had never heard of Avalon River cruises and didn't know anyone that had traveled with them, but really feel like we "lucked out" when we chose them for our cruise. After our experience, I can't recommend Avalon highly enough. This cruise line was the perfect balance of offering luxury while still being reasonably priced. Our ship (The View) was just lovely, the rooms (and bathrrooms!) so spacious, beds comfortable, the floor to ceiling windows fantastic, and the food delicious to eye AND palate, the staff helpful and professional, the included excursions informative and enjoyable and the optional available excursions unique and varied. (We loved the excurion to the Maginot Line.) It was the trip of a lifetime. I hope that we have the opportunity to cruise with Avalon again.

The Avalon was so wonderful and all staff were very helpful in many ways, we couldn't fault the ship or staff. Would recommend Avalon river cruises. The rooms are lovely with great views.

The staff was interactive, polite, and memorable. We were lucky enough to have met and interacted with the staff on 2 different boats. Avalon handled the necessary change of ships with finesse and efficiency.

Cabins always great. Food very good. I wish there were semi-dry white wine offered at dinner. (Rieslings, not dry). Christmas market in Colmar was not enjoyable, way too crowded.
Ship Christmas decorations could have more. We saw other ships inside that were more extensively decorated and festive. Excellent cruise director, Ariana in housekeeping, Miki in dining.

The crew, the boat, the service, the food, and especially our favorite waiter- Gino- were the BEST! I would highly recommend this ship and cruise line to anyone! I have NO complaints- except the fact that when I came home- it was hard to readjust to normal life without this Avalon-life luxury! ♥️🇩🇪🤣🥺

The crew was impeccable and offered the best service possible. The vessel was very clean and modern and the food was very good. Most of the excursions were very interesting and with very good guides. This was our second river cruise with Avalon (after another with a competitor) and we will return to Avalon in the future. Far superior in every respect.

Our Avalon cruise was absolutely perfect! I was impressed with all the staff, who gave the trip an extra boost! Everyone was so attentive to our every need!
And our tour director, Hendrik, went above and beyond!! His knowledge was impressive!
The tour itself was set up in a way that you had ample time on shore to do whatever you wanted without a big rush to get back to the boat. That was impressive to me because we have been on tours where all you do is rush about.
The boat was very clean and tidy! And the food was always delicious!
We are already looking ahead to our next Avalon cruise!

From the add on itinerary in Lake Como to the last day in Amsterdam, our Avalon Waterways Rhine Valley trip was amazing. Incredible staff from each point of contact, tour opportunities to do as little or as much as we wanted, fantastic meals and beverages, evening entertainment with local musicians... all added up to the best trip we have ever taken. We were traveling with 11 family members who all enjoyed something different. I encourage you to look at your calendar and make this trip a priority. You won't regret it.

What is a better way to know how good a team is than to challenge it with a crisis?
We booked a short anniversary trip of the Danube from Vienna to Budapest exactly during the record-breaking rainfall of Storm Boris in September 2024. The captain and cruise director's experience and quick decision-making kept all of us all safe and warm, ensured that we maximized our cruise/vacation while continuously feeding us.
We were able to sail out of Vienna before all the ports were locked and bridges were unpassable; we were safe in Bratislava port at the peak of the rains; and they kept us dry until we were finally transferred to our Budapest hotel. We disembarked before all cruises were cancelled because of the flood.
The layout of the suite, the service of the crew, and the exceptional cuisine they serve have all been described. Everyone knows how Avalon pampers their cruisers, but their decisions during crises like this are proof that they deserve all the trust we have given them.
Yes, we are definitely booking another cruise with them in the future!
