Ashmia trek and tours review.
We have just completed the singalila ridge treck organised by Ashmita Trek and Tours. It was a fantastic experience, we had very clear views of the mountain ranges of Kangchenjunga and Everest. The organisation of the Trekwas superb, all permits and passes in order that led to a very smooth experience in that regard. All bookings for accommodation went well, food simple and good quality, plentiful local and organic. Our guide, Dawa, went over and above what we expected, he was so accommodating. Guided us to all of the best view spots ensured we were safe and well talked to us about culturally significant issues and the geography. Really brilliant experience. We have booked with Asmita for Sikkim Trek Goeche la trek with Asmita.

perfect organization and excellent guide
as we had some time in Darjeeling left, we asked Ashmita Tours to recommend and organize us a tour for the following day. We agreed on a tour into the Singalila National park. Next day, driver and guide were on time and took us to the park. Where we had some walking, visited local guest houses, monastries and Stupas. It ended in the Darjeeling Druk Sang-Ngag Choling monastry, were we attended the monk celebration with chanting and music. In particular we have to praise our guide Lama, which did a great job and was very knowledgable.
We highly recommend Ashmita Trek!

Amazing Family Treks!
We planned a four-day trek with Ashmita Trek & Tours, Darjeeling. We were a family of four with two kids of age 6 and 9. Ashmita Trek & Tours made customized tour plan and treks keeping their age and strength and capability in mind. I made multiple calls to them and coordinated with Mr. Subash Tamang over phone, email and WhatsApp. He was very helpful and patiently answered all my questions, which helped in the perfect planning of our tour. Without Mr. Subhashish Tamang’s help we could never successfully complete this trek which was the first time in kids’ life and our life. We also opted for their airport car pick up and drop services. We requested for an English-speaking guide in the trips because the kids don’t understand Hindi. During the entire tour we were totally satisfied with their service. Prior to the journey we were given the contact numbers of the driver and the guide. On the very first day of the journey, the guide was there in the hotel on time we started our journey as per schedule. We met Mr. Dawa Lama, the most knowledgeable person of the trekking route, who was there with us for the next three days. We were astonished to learn that he was working as a guide in this route for the past 25 years. He is also trained from the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute and went into many expeditions. This man was a legend and surely, he helped us in each and every step and with his knowledge and familiarization with the route and his connection with the locals. His spoken English is excellent! Never in the trek did we face any trouble because of him. We went from Darjeeling to Dhotrey by car and from there we trekked to Tonglu. We stayed at Trekkers Hut at Tonglu. Then next day we went to Tumling and Singalila National Park and stayed at Shikhar Lodge at Tumling. Next day, we trekked from Tumling to Chitrey and then we took the car from Chitrey to Darjeeling. One day later, we went to Chatakpur day trek with them and Mr. Lama was there to guide us as well. We did not pay premium price to Ashmita Trek & Tours for this tour but in every step, we felt every penny was worth paying because of the preferential treatment that we received along with a personal touch from Mr. Dawa Lama. We tried to book a room near Ghoom but when all other places said “no vacancy”, Mr. Subash Tamang helped us out by arranging for a beautiful home stay near Jorebunglow. That happened to be the most exciting one of all the places we have stayed so far but that’s for another story (and review). During the entire car journey, we were provided with AC Innova as we requested and they promised. I would highly recommend Ashmita Trek & Tours for any kind of travel in Darjeeling.
Sandakphu & Phalut off-beat trek with Ashmita
We had the best time on our trek with Ashmita Trek and Tours! It was a last minute decision for my friend and I to do the 6 day / 5 night trip while already in Darjeeling, so we didn’t have much time for preparation. The Ashmita team are so organized and helped us navigate all the paperwork needed for border check ins, figure out what kind of gear we would need on the trek, and how to get from Darjeeling to the start in Rimbick.
Subash, the owner, was in constant communication with us in the days leading up to starting, ensuring we had all the info for taxi times, who our guide was, what we’d need to pay for real-time versus later on, and answering any questions we had. Our guide, Rupesh, picked us up at our hotel in Darjeeling and walked us to the taxi we booked to ride to Rimbick.
We loved having Rupesh as our guide. He’s incredibly knowledgeable about the areas we walked through, pointing out things to see we didn’t notice, and showing us things we could eat while on the path. We had a great time talking with him about things beyond the actual trek too. He’s always very funny and always felt relaxed, never hurrying us or making us feel like we were moving too slow. We asked to try and catch the sunrise at Sandakphu and once again at Phalut, so he got up early to check the weather both days for us and let us know when to come out and catch the sun. At night he made sure we had enough blankets to keep warm and kept us on track for all of our meals and tea breaks along the way.
The food was delicious — breakfast, lunch and dinners. We packed snacks for daytimes, but had so much at mealtimes that we didn’t end up needing most of them. The trekker huts and home stays were great and we even got to charge our phones (aka our cameras) on most of the days when electricity was on in them! There’s little to no service, which we loved. Every person we stayed with, drank tea with, and chatted to at the stops was so kind and it felt like Rupesh knew all of them!
The trip back to Darjeeling was just as smooth as the rest of the trek. Rupesh scheduled us a shared taxi and walked us back to Ashmita’s store front to make sure we picked up all our gear and could back a few things we’d borrowed. We had a great time debriefing with Subash and Rupesh about the off-beat route we’d taken.
Overall, I would absolutely suggest booking with Ashmita and going on the off-beat route. The whole experience was so easy (minus the actual hiking up a mountain part) and the team truly are fantastic!
Amazing experience from Subash and Team
Ashmita Trek & Tour operated by Subash Tamang is a well known across Darjeeling for organizing Treks. I was reluctant first as I was going with my family. Subash Ji made me confident and I went with the bookings for a customized tour I had decided not as a packaged one. The cab driver (Santosh ji) was very nice and he quickly understood our needs and adjusted accordingly. For the 4 days we stayed in Darjeeling, Santosh ji was there to take us around the city, to Sikkim, to Kalimpong and even pick up and drop at the airport. Overall it was a pleasant tour and would definitely recommend Ashmita Trek and Tour for both packaged and customized tour. Thanks you both Subash & Santosh, We will meet again.
Just wonderful experience
I was full of expectations when I arrived Darjeeling, having already booked the 4 days trek in Singalila National Park, from Darjeeling to Sandakhpu and Rimbick. The more disappointed I was, when I realised that I mixed up the days and missed the first leg. But the agency was so kind and brought me with two jeeps to the start of second leg, just for a small fee. The trek was absolutely wonderful. Exhausting, as I carried too much stuff with me, but with much understanding and patience of our guide Rupesh and trek-mate Jonas, I made it. Wonderful views of Kanchenjunga ridge and Lhotsd, Cho-oyu and Mt. Everest in early morning crowned that trip. Also refreshments and dinning was well organised, as well as lodging and trip back to Darjeeling.
For the guide of the year I nominate, of course, the friendly and helpful and competent guide Rupesh.
And I can Ashmita agency best recommend.
Sikkim Kanchanzonga Gochala Trek
We chose Ashmita Trek & Tours like a lot of people after reading a lot of good reviews and we are so glad we did. my girlfriend and I did the Sikkim kanchanzonga Goecha-la pass Trek in mid October 2019 and had a wonderful time. through Ashmita Trek, we arranged a all full packages including hotel, transportation, Guide, porter, Sherpa all necessary trek permit for a 12 day trek. before we arrived in Sikkim.Subash the owner of company was very responsive via email and helped us arrange all the details for a reasonable price.
During the trek the Guide they took care of everything really good. And super friendly and good at finding the right balance between letting us walking alone and sharing his information about the area. and our highlight of teams when we reached the higher elevations near the pass, our Sherpa guide provided that little extra encouragement (and concern for our safety) that allowed us to make it through.
(About Goecha la trek) we entered the national park on day one from yuksoom base camp through thick forest and were treated to rich foliage, rhododendron forests, number of waterfalls, wire bridges on rivers and green meadows above treeline. of course, after 3 days we reach Dzongri the altitude at 40200mt with beautiful views of Mt. Pandim and the great Khangchenzonga 8,586m
we would gladly recommend Ashmita Trek and Tours and there Sherpa teams to anyone planning a adventure trek in Sikkim Himalayas.
Thanks Subash. we never forget this trip.
Everest Base Camp Trek
Mt Everest Base Camp Trek 5,380 metres altitude. Dinesh (guide) and Ramesh (assistant guide) were always cheerful, helpful and encouraging, sharing their wealth of knowledge of their country and culture. We all 4 of us made it to EBC with the help of these exceptional guides. We couldn't have done it without them. We appreciate Ashmita Trek and Tours provided us with a wonderful and answering our question experience from start to finish. Suggestion, bring your trekking poles, practice with them first. Really useful for the rocky terrain higher up the mountain. Nepal, we hope to visit you again soon
Annapurna Base Camp Trek
The Annapurna Base Camp Trek -15 days organization by Ashmita was immaculate! Our guide Sangay is highly experienced with trekking at high altitude, considerate of every member in the group, and extremely detail oriented. He arranged sufficient acclimation practice for us and everyone successfully made to ABC altitude of 4,130m the highest point—The supporting staff were efficient and dedicated. We were provided with three hot meals everyday with ample food and the main courses at dinner never repeated. Think about doing that with just a stove and at high altitude and all supplies were carried up on the back of porters! Whenever we reached one camping site, there was hot drinks waiting for us. We were also provided additional sleeping pads and sleeping bag to supplement what we brought on our own. Hot water bags were also provided, which were great night savers above 12,000 feet when temperature was close to to below freezing at night. To summarize, all the details of the trekking were considered and taken care of by Ashmita trek and tours teams. Among all the other trekking groups we met on the way, ours probably provided the best support.
Our trek was over and yat Ashmita continued to take care of us.it speaks volume Ashmita as a company.
I will continue to recommend Ashmita trek to anyone considering a trip to nepal and hopefully we will be back someday for our 2nd trek! Honestly, you are the excellent hands with this company and we guarantee you are in for the trip a lifetime !

Wow.....
My wife and I did the five day Singalia Ridge trek in early-mid November 2019. I'm in my mid-sixties and, having been a bit apprehensive about the physical demands of the trek, built up a basic level of fitness over a period of six months before the trek , averaging around 15,000 walking steps a day and a twice weekly 30 minute jog. For someone of my age/fitness, the trek was very demanding but I'd have no qualms about attempting something similar in the future. There are some prolonged steep climbs (2-3 km), often on stony steps which can be quite hard on your knees not to mention your spirits. There's a bit less oxygen around so it's good to feel reasonably confident that your heart and lungs are up to the challenge. I got pretty hot and sweaty when trekking during the daytime but, once the sun goes down, and you stop for the night, it gets very cold very quickly. So, while you'd probably be fine with a T-shirt and shorts during the day-time, you need every layer you can muster to stay warm at night in what is very basic overnight accomodation. So do take all the layers that Subash recommends on his website (plus a sleeping bag liner to use under the thick blankets/quilts that all the lodges provide) and, really importantly, take a couple of LED torches/headlamps because the only electricity on offer is likely to be quite dim lighting rationed to just a few hours in the evening, coming as it does from something like a a lorry battery charged up by solar panels during the day. Phone/torch recharging is possible here and there but I would recommend taking a fairly high capacity charging block.Evenings were pretty dark and cold but if, like me, you don't mind reading by torchlight for the hour or so you can manage to stay awake, that'll be no problem at all - and just adds to the excitement of the adventure.
How was the trek? Fantastic! Really fantastic!! The countryside is absolutely stunning and the views are staggering - not just the big-ticket 5 o'clock sunrises at Tumling and Sandakhphu but just about everywhere you look all the the time you're walking. This is the most beautiful place I've ever seen. I found it tough but, with that toughness came a real sense of achievement. The accomodation might be basic, but the fact that there is any accomodation at all at 3,700 metres is an astonishing feat in itself. OK, there wasn't much light, no heating and toilet/washing facilities were, shall we say, basic by western standards but that's all just part of a huge adventure that prises you out of your humdrum, daily existence into an enchanted world of snow-capped mountains, hillside woodlands, gazing down on valleys filling with cloud ... not forgetting of course the occasional hot-water bottle. And where would be the fun in taking a gentle stroll from one four-star hotel to the next? Not to say that these privations didn't have the capacity to get to you, especially at the end of a long-day's trekking when cold, tired and hungry. The fact that they didn't was due in no small measure to the kindness and professionalism of our guide, Pemba, and his assistant, Gokul. Pemba was an absolute brick throughout. Although he's clearly capable of scaling Everest in an afternoon, never once did he show any sign of impatience at our rather gentlemanly rate of progress. His mantra from the outset was "It's your holiday - go at your own pace. We're just here to make sure that you're safe and that you enjoy it". These were not just empty words. We always felt that we were in completely safe hands and we really did enjoy it. On the walking bit of the trek, Pemba was a reliable and responsible guide and a mine of information. He was not, however, one of those guides who is anxious to display his erudition and who prattles on incessantly long after your attention span is exhausted. Sometimes we would chat about the flora and fauna or the history and peoples of the region or just life in general. Other times, we'd walk for hours in an easy, companiable silence just drinking in our surroundings. At lunchtimes, we generally stopped at a really interesting little place to have a cup of tea and some fresh home-cooked food - once enjoying the spectacle of some friendly local lads trying a millet beer or two! Other visits included huddling round a log-fired earthen "hob" in a tiny cottage perched on the mountainside at Sandakphu - drinking tea again, naturally. On arrival at our overnight accomodation, Pemba did his level best to sort us out with the best rooms available and never failed to provide a constant stream of tea! He supervised the cooks and, despite the basic kitchen facilities in some places, all the meals we had were absolutely delicious. The excellent food at the Tumling lodge was quite varied with a few different hiking groups sitting round a big table near a log-fire enjoying things like butter nan, aloo curry, chicken curry and dahl (and each other's company of course). Most places served simple but delicious vegetarian dishes like vegetable fried rice or chilli noodles and there was absolutely no limit on seconds or thirds.Supper at the final lodge in Timburey deserves a special mention. Freshly cooked, authentic Nepalese vegetarian cooking at its very best. The steamed momos (stuffed dumplings) were scrummy but the outstanding dish for me was potols (pointed gourds) stuffed with potatoes and home-made cottage cheese. I know that may not sound that great to some - but just try them - I ended up having eight. For breakfast we usually stocked up on carbs with omelette and toast and maybe some banana porridge - but you could have more traditional, Nepalese food if you preferred. Anyway, Pemba was on hand at all times to make sure that we were comfortable and to make sure that we were getting plenty of nice food to eat - somehow even rustling up a birthday cake for breakfast at Tumling. He always put us first - making sure that we had a plentiful supply of tea or soup and laying on hot-water bottles and buckets of hot-water where available. He also carries a few traditional remedies for altitude sickness (like adding chunks of garlic to soup). I couldn't really tell whether I had very mild altitude sickness on the first day or just felt a bit dizzy through being so knackered. Either way, I tried the garlic soup (which was very tasty) and felt completely restored within half an hour. I can't speak highly enough of Pemba. His good humour and friendly, reassuring presence really made this a special experience for us. Suffice to say that he's the kind of guy who doesn't ever get on your nerves (even after five days trekking) and you'd be happy to count him as a friend.
Gokul was our "porter". What this means is that, in addition to his own stuff, he carried a weighty 15 litre backpack stuffed with all our night-time gear. Unlike Pemba, Gokul doesn't speak much English. Nevertheless, he is a very nice, charming young man (there was some good-natured debate his actual, chronological age) with a warm smile and an honest face and an almost infinite capicty for climbing mountains weighed down by heaven knows how much luggage equipped only with a T-shirt and a pair of tennis shoes. Where he gets his strength, stamina and patience from I don't know. I do know, however, that he is a very nice person to have around on your trek. It was a pleasure to have got to know him a little.
I didn't organise the trip but Subash at Ashmita Tours is a great bloke to deal with. Completely honest and a customer service fanatic. We wanted to change the second part of trip quite significantly and, within an hour of dropping in to Ashmita's office in Darjeeling with our totally unreasonable request, Subash had sorted the whole thing out - no trouble, no fuss - just a friendly helpful presence dedicated to making your trip a memorable one. The hotel that Soubash arranged in Darjeeling for before and after our trek was a lovely old place called the New Elgin with great views over the town, lovely old rooms and a very good restaurant. When we arrived, Soubash called round in person to say hello and talk us through the coming trek. You're in very safe hands here. His standard of care and attention and his approach to customer care in general are above anything you'd find in the west. Basically, he's a decent, very competent guy who you can trust to the nth degree to sort you out a great trip.
On top of all that, Soubash bought us a lovely candleit dinner for two on our last night in Darjeeling.
I was a bit apprehensive about attempting this jaunt at my age but it turned out to be the best trip I've done for decades.
Fabulous trek to Sandakphu with Ashmita
Since I first contacted Subash Tamang, owner of Ashmita Trek and Tour in 2017 about this trek, I've been impressed with his knowledge, experience, care and friendly approach to the organisation of our trek, which we finally did in November 2019. He gave us all the information we needed to come to Darjeeling properly prepared and secure in the knowledge that we were in great hands with Ashmita.
We are aged 57 and 64. My husband had his birthday on the second day of the trek and our fabulous guide, Pemba organised an impromptu birthday cake cooked in the lodge at Tumling for breakfast - and everyone there joined in with the celebrations. Given our ages we were a bit apprehensive about the trek - whether it would be too strenuous for us, what about altitude sickness etc etc, but Subash came to meet us on our first evening in Darjeeling and talked us through everything, answering all our questions and giving us complete reassurance.
As mentioned, our guide Pemba was fabulous throughout and made the experience interesting, fun and really memorable. He had many interesting things to tell us about the mountains/wildlife/flora/culture as we walked, and he was there every step of the way, especially on the steep parts to encourage us and keep us going. In fact we made really good progress, thanks to him, and to Gokul, who carried our bag and managed to get everywhere at twice our speed.
Both Pemba and Gokul were incredibly thoughtful, ensuring we had enough food, bringing us hot water in the lodges, hot water bottles, and endless cups of tea (to our exact specification!). Pemba went the extra mile to make sure our trek was memorable - making sure we got up in time for the spectacular sunrises -both at Tumling and at Sandakphu, taking photos for us, showing us the best viewpoints, and generally helping us to have the best possible experience. The walk itself was amazing - above the clouds from the second or third day - and an perfectly clear view of Kanchenjunga, Everest, and countless other mountains in the range. We will never forget it, or Pemba, Gokul and Subash at Ashmita who made it possible. To cap it all, Subash arranged a fabulous dinner at the Elgin hotel in Darjeeling on our return, for yet another birthday celebration, complete with a floral display on the table. We really felt that Ashmita, a small family company, are passionate about the area, want their clients to have the best experience possible and to leave as friends. I'm hoping we'll come back again for a further trekking adventure in the not too distant future!!
Amazing Ashmita!
My wife and I (both middle-aged) had two tours with Ashmita trek and tours. A 6 day trekking tour and a 4 day guided tour of Sikim. Both were wonderful. Our guides were both superb and looked after our every needs. Subash was an amazing organiser and tailored our Sikim tour so that we didn't have to worry about transferring from one tour to the other. We can't recommend Ashmita enough.
I recently did the Singalila trek with…Ashmitha trek company.
I recently did the Singalila trek with my wife, son and his girlfriend. We had an amazing trip, got lucky with the weather and got to enjoy incredible views of Everest etc. Our guide Binod was very professional and thoughtful and have no problem recommending his services to any trekkers.
ASHMITA company were fantastic and made our holiday so much fun, thanks to Subash and crew.
Goechala Trek
At the beginning of october 2019, I did the Goechala Trek with Ashmita Trek & tours. Even if the monsoon decided to stay with us for the first 6 to 7 days, we enjoyed so much this land and we had some nice views of the mountains. Our very professional and friendly guide was Sanguay and we were impressed by the quality of the organization with a staff who work so hard to make us confortable. They were the last to go to sleep and the first to wake up early to prepare tea and breakfast. The cook was amazing in those circumstances. So we recommand to all. Ashmita trek & tour
Great experience with Ashmita Tours and Travels
We are experienced trekkers from Switzerland, living in India since nearly four years.
We had a great experience during the Goethals trek in Sikkim. Our guide Sangay and his team: the cook Tenzin, the two helpers and the horseman, were perfect. Not only could we relay on them but they made everything easier. The good atmosphere in this team were so important. Sangay knows everything about the region, the people, the mountains in Sikkim and he shared his knowledge willingly, being very discreet at the same time. With the perfect, detailed organisation of Subash in Darjeeling and Sangay’s team we could not have had a better trek. We highly recommend Ashmita Tours and Travel.
Darjeeling/Sikkim trip
I travelled to Darjeeling, the Singalila Ridge and North Sikkim in October.
I greatly thank Ashmita tours and specifically my guide Rubin for the wonderful experience. Despite being a long tour of 15 days, all was well prepared and sought after. Rubin was very friendly and always available, looking after my interest at all times, and managing time in a very efficient way. Food and accomodation were always good, even in the most remote places. And the scenario was incredible, pristine nature without many tourists, felt like a real adventure. Very strongly recommended.
We had a 4- day trek
We had a 4- day trek. Our guide was excellent. We felt very safe with him. He took care of every member of our group.
Singalila trek
It was my first trek in India. I'm absolutely impressed! I did this fantastic trek with Pemba. Pemba its the best guide ever!!!!!!!!! He is very experienced and friendly guide, warm and nice person. I was lucky to have experienced the panoramic views of Sleeping Buddha and Mt. Everest. Accommodation during my trek was nice. I can’t thank Pemba enough for taking care of me and my colleagues. I highly recommend Ashmita Trek and Tours, will surely come back.
