I’ve been with Amber for 6 years and have had a very positive experience. Everything just works and I never need to talk to customer service. You need to read their FAQs, invest in learning how it works and understand that most errors are actually related to your equipment or hardware vendor systems. Also, be aware that Facebook groups and reviews naturally skew negative, people rarely post that “my battery worked well today”. So if you read negative reviews, apply some perspective.

My experience with Amber has been mixed. On the positive side, access to wholesale electricity prices provides opportunities to earn better solar feed-in returns and buy electricity cheaply when market conditions are favourable. The app also provides useful visibility of live and forecast prices, and SmartShift has the potential to manage a battery effectively without constant manual intervention.

Unfortunately, SmartShift has not always operated in a way that makes financial and common sense for my home, I feel the maturity of SmartShift still has someway to go. My battery has sometimes been charged from the grid without me requesting it, including at prices well over what I would have agreed to pay when significantly cheaper electricity was forecast not that much later. I have also experienced unwanted imports and difficulty manually exporting stored battery energy, even when higher feed-in prices made exporting preferable. These decisions can quickly erode the savings, particularly when Amber’s daily supply and membership charges must also be recovered.

The other major challenge is the lack of direct control and clear explanations for some battery decisions. Amber’s support staff have generally been polite and have investigated my concerns, including providing a credit on one occasion, but the underlying issues have not always been clearly explained or permanently resolved. Recent system maintenance and exchange outages have also raised questions about how SmartShift behaves when services are unavailable ( this can lead to costly outcomes for the customer ).

Amber is an innovative service that can deliver excellent results under the right market conditions, especially for solar and battery owners who understand wholesale pricing. However, I believe SmartShift needs greater transparency, more reliable battery control and better options for customers who want to make their own charging and exporting decisions. There is a lot to like about Amber, but my experience has shown that the automation does not always produce the best financial outcome. I would go into this with open eyes and understand the cons before changing over.

Have been with Amber about 18 months now, wanting its expertise in the timing to export at optimum times. Have pensioner card but did not give Amber new card details and month ago so August bill did not include the benefit. Contacted Amber and after some time have been able to have new details accepted and the Augusr bill readjusted. So happy.

Customer service has been great. Short response times and knowledgeable staff. Answered my questions about how Amber works and Siti sorted out my curtailment issue. Highly recommended 👍

Amber allows great flexibility to enable you to 'drive' your own battery system, or alternately , allow amber 'smartshift' to do it all automatically. I've been with amber 2 months ,and already ahead with almost negative costs. My old monthly bill was around $130-150, but now it's almost zero!!.. i've a 28kw battery, and 12kw solar panel setup, which is split into 3 arrays, favoring different times of day exposures. So i'd advise: Hook in &Buckle up to Amber.. Cheers!!

Amber more than happy to sign you up, but when you have daily issues like I have had, good luck with trying to get issues resolved.
Amber wants to sign you up but dont care if your system is having issues.
I have spent in excess of a hundred hours in calls and research, nothing has changed.
They have a function solar containment, shame it takes several minutes to connect, continually costing me money.
Lift your game Amber.

I have found that Amber is generally quick in its responses when you contact them. This is one of the reasons I stay with them and also why I am happy to recommend them to my friends. I also appreciate that they are really trying to assist with people accessing clean and sustainable energy.

So easy to set up new account when moving as well as a final reading for current property even thou there was a few days overlap. Around 10/10 for me, highly recommend to anyone who'd like to save substantial money on there bills

Quick response to my problem

May as well not have solar or batteries as I was paying less before. I have a combustion heater but am still paying $130 a month after discount with fee's and energy. Not happy with Amber, just another money grabbing company.

Amber Electric has been an awesome power company to be part of. We have been with Amber for 2.5 years and have had nothing but the best experiences. We had couple of issues with our solar/battery set up to get all of our system to communicate efficiently and Jessie has been very patient and helpful to resolve this. Happy to recommend Amber Electric as a power retailer for anyone looking to get the best they can out of their solar /battery setup.

I have so much appreciation for this company and its representatives as I was struggling financially after a period of illness and they have been so understanding and very patient in allowing me to be totally vulnerable and share my difficulties until now where I am back at work and have set up a payment plan that suits me.. the support has been outstanding! We all know that making the right choice is paramount when making the selection of service and what is best for your house hold . Yes they have fees but they enable me with my solar and battery system from REA energy to maintain my 50kw battery and then supply power back to the grid in peek prices while maintaining reserve levels to eliminate costly price surprises . Amber is great if you have a decent battery to store power to on sell but keep in mind the average house hold uses around 22 kw to 30kw of a night so you need to ensure when supplying the grid to maintain your house hold levels accordingly to sustain a safe reserve level . The team at amber are great with resolving technical issues and i have referred many of client in the insurance industry to check out amber for the benefits of becoming self sustainable and being a private power supplier to any investment houses and increasing the rent to be inclusive to power … Thank you to the team and i am very happy with the service.

The company provides this and it is correct. Amber is a smarter way of buying and selling energy that helps you save and puts you in control. For $25 a month, get direct access to smart tech and real-time wholesale electricity prices. Shift more of your energy usage to times when cheaper renewable energy is available, and then export your excess solar when the price you can get paid for it is highest.

Not good service, they keep charging in bill Membership fees without informing us so be carefull guys...not trustable

Ignore 99% of the 5 star reviews they are either Amber employees or paid bots.

Hands down the worst service I’ve ever recieved in any industry in Aus. Zero customer service or expertise. They billed me 30 days of electricity after I moved out and the power was disconnected. It took a month to get rectified with zero compensation for the time and stress.

Shameful service and downright incompetence in every aspect. Avoid at all cost! Legal ramifications will catch up with this company at some point
