Very helpful support from the guys at Amber

I was one of the ones that received a very high electricity bill. With solar only and with AGL my annual bill was approximately $ 1,200.00
Adding a 42 kw battery ($8,500.00) & switching to Amber, my extrapolated bill will be over $3,000.00. I tried to talk to them but totally inflexible. My wife & I are in our 80’s & occasionally our 57 year old daughter stays with us. We also have full house insulation & the refrigeration hot water service. Last month : $360.00 Disgusting.

I would like to take this opportunity to express my appreciation that I actually got to speak to two people to help me with my problems. It is so refreshing and incredibly helpful to be able to have 'the human touch' - so, thanks for that aspect.

I had two problems I needed to sort out - one being updating one of our two accounts’ payment details. That was taken care of very efficiently by Johnny who then handed me on to Taylor to help me with the set up of our replacement battery. This matter took several days to resolve, but Taylor kept me in touch with where we were throughout this process.

I want to make it clear that the human interaction was greatly appreciated and your two team members who were assisting me were both helpful and, in Taylor's case, patient and helpful until everything was resolved.

We are brand new Amber customers and we had some trouble getting our solar connected. However Amber was incredibly helpful and kept in communication all times. After being with our previous provider for many years I am very happy to be with Amber.

I've just switched to Amber. It will be a while before I know how much better off I will be in terms of costs, but it's been a great start. Customer service has been fantastic, with the queries I had answered almost immediately by CS staff.

I joined Amber in December 2025. Since joining Amber I have made $337 profit. Electricity is a complicated and competitive business resulting in swings and roundabouts. Amber has managed to capitalise on this situation resulting in me achieving a significant profit in 5 out of 6 months of being a member.
Amber is extremely well situated, through the assistance of AI, to capitalise on market volatility, when it occurs, to my advantage.
Amber has a very good on line service department that has resolved any issues I have had in a timely manner.
In times when electricity is becoming more expensive by the day, Amber is at least giving myself an opportunity to fight back.

This is my second property to be connected to Amber which indicates that I am completely happy with the process from initiation to completion.
I have requested information regarding my bill on two occasions and have been happy with the speed of reply and answers given.

I have been with Anber for several years now and am very happy having them as my Electricity supplier, any queries that I have had have been answered promptly. I have recommended them to many people as I believe in their philosophy as a company. Also I do occasionally, as everyone should compare them to other suppliers but have never found anyone else who can come close to the price that I pay

While we have not been Amber Electric long, it has been a simple, easy and quick process to swap over to Amber. They have set everything up much quicker than expected and already have us saving on our electricity! The customer service we have received has been great also. So far we cannot fault them.

Amber has fantastic customer service that is extremely responsive. Their service isn't fit for everyone and is probably more suited to families that have consistent routines with electricity use.

SmartShift: Broken Algorithms & Zero Accountability

​I am extremely dissatisfied with Amber Electric and their SmartShift "Battery Optimiser" automation. If you have a large battery storage system and are on a demand tariff, be warned: this software is highly counterproductive and will cost you money.
​Here are the three major issues I have experienced:

​Battery Optimiser Fails to Preserve Capacity: The algorithm completely fails to protect my battery during the active demand window (3 PM – 9 PM). SmartShift routinely triggers discharging events to the grid for negligible financial gains—like a measly 4¢ arbitrage margin (~$1.00 total gain)—which completely depletes my battery. This boneheaded move forces my home to draw from the grid during peak times, triggering substantial monthly peak demand charges that completely wipe out any minor daily export gains.

​Complete Failure to Pre-Charge a 24kWh Battery: Despite having a massive 24kWh battery capacity and predictable household consumption patterns, the algorithm consistently fails to load and top up my battery ahead of the active demand window. Instead of intelligently securing cheap grid energy when it's sitting at 19¢ to ensure I draw zero grid energy during peak hours, it leaves the battery underprepared, further compounding the grid-draw penalties.

​Robotic Support & Complete Lack of Math: When I raised these clear technical issues with detailed data, all of my observations were met with generic, script-like responses that felt like talking to a poorly programmed AI. Support completely failed to answer my direct questions. They insisted I am "better off" on this setup but utterly failed to show me the actual math to back up that claim. Meanwhile, my own math—and my actual energy bill—clearly proves that the SmartShift Battery Optimiser is making the wrong decisions. When finally cornered on the logic, support simply told me I was free to leave and change providers.

​Overall Verdict:
There is a total lack of accountability at Amber. Instead of receiving robotic, defensive explanations for an algorithm that is clearly failing, I would have vastly preferred an honest, human answer acknowledging these software flaws and confirming that they are actively working to fix them.

With wholesale electricity pricing and an outstanding EV charging solution, Amber Electric has been fantastic to use. Their platform makes it easy to take advantage of real-time energy prices, helping to reduce energy costs while maximising the value of home EV charging.
What truly sets Amber apart, however, is their exceptional customer service. The support team is knowledgeable, responsive, and genuinely committed to helping customers get the most out of their energy plans. Any questions or issues are handled quickly and professionally.
Amber is also constantly innovating and looking for new ways to improve the customer experience, offering greater transparency, smarter energy management tools, and excellent value for money. It's refreshing to see a company that not only delivers a great product but is also focused on continually improving its services. I would highly recommend Amber Electric to anyone looking for a smarter, more cost-effective way to manage their electricity and EV charging needs.

We have only joined Amber last week. We did this after a bit of research and the talking directly to Amber. Their representative explained everything but at no time did he try to “sell” us anything. This impressed us greatly and a few days later we are a new Amber client.

It is a bit of a scam.
All the positive 5-star reviews must be fake.
The cost structure is not explained at the start. The running cost is about $67-$75 per month. That is a fixed cost regardless of usage. Pretty much double of the conventional supplier.
Solar Feed-in is non-existent outside Dec, Jan, Feb. Mostly negative during the day.
Then they hit you with Peak demand charges at crazy rates $11-$12 per Kw. This is $70 for 5.5Kw. This wipes any savings of using Amber every month.
VPP is mostly useless. It took them 3 months to connect. Support is NON-Existent. I get like 8-10 draws from the battery per year. That is nothing.
DO NOT TRY AMBER without solar + battery.
Ends up more expensive compared to the main suppliers.
Winter time they will burn holes in your budget.
The only saving grace for me was $120 referral discount for the first year.
Going back to AGL.

Amber is an outstanding provider that makes every encounter quick and easy. They are very responsive to any enquiries do the best to provide a positive outcome.

I had a great experience with Amber Energy. Their customer service was excellent. They quickly traced the issue with my account and resolved it immediately. I also noticed that my meter reading had been charged twice on my bill. As soon as I contacted Amber Energy, they investigated the problem, took prompt action, and corrected the bill without any hassle.

I really appreciate their fast response, professionalism, and commitment to resolving customer issues. It's reassuring to know they genuinely care about their customers. Highly recommended!
