Zoe plan…a few weeks in
It’s early days for me on the Zoe plan but so far so good. Finding out what foods do/don’t work for my biology is both surprising and a delight. some foods I assumed would be ok for me aren’t and a lot of foods I’ve historically avoided or kept to minimum I can now eat regularly/freely and guilt free. That said nothing is banned and I usually eat what I want as long as I take care with my meal planning.
Being able to understand my blood sugar/fat responses as well as what’s going on in my gut biome has been a revelation and I do hope this will one day become the norm for everyone under the NHS. It certainly helps me feel more responsible for my health.
I’ve signed up for a year, believing I need a decent length of time to make the changes I want and for them to become a part of my normal life. This has cost me £600 but as someone else has already written, I guess it depends on the value you put on your own health and wellbeing. That said, if you buy a £3 coffee every working day for a year then you’ll have paid £780 for that … making Zoe comparatively cheap. I would chosen a 6 month option had that been available but at the time of joining there was a choice of 1 month, 4 month or a year.
Any queries I’ve had have been answered within given timescales and replies have been very comprehensive.
For me, although weight loss is an important part of this journey, becoming more healthy is of paramount importance to me. That said, a few weeks in and I’m down just about half a stone and it doesn’t feel like I’ve been trying to lose weight. I’ve even been eating chocolate as part of my eating plan, bonus!
This plan does require quite a lot of commitment to food planning. I was already eating reasonably healthily but I’m still having to make quite a number of substantial changes to the way I eat. Logging meals is an important part of measuring this for me and it does take time, especially in the beginning when logging recipes and meals for the first time. I think it will get easier as time passes though. Although they say there’s no obligation to log meals I fail to see how I would get the best of the plan without doing so, at least for the first few months anyway. I find the ‘improve’ section of the app most helpful every week which I wouldn’t have if I don’t log my meals.
So for me this a definitely worth the purchase but be aware of the time commitment required in order to get the best out of the app.
