reality
Hi, I'm Brenton the 'daddy' of Ruby who Jaimee at YPCS has accused of neglect. The YPCS facebook site has a violin playing story of woe that requires some honesty and reality injected.
Ruby is a border collie with a thickish coat. She has been to YPCS 2 times previously to be groomed because of the matting. Nature takes care of this generally via moulting but, from a human perspective, a bit of grooming helps with aesthetics.
Both times the stylists were able to groom Ruby to our satisfaction, leaving her with 2 inches at least of her coat. The last time there Ruby was quite matted, far worse than the recent visit, as she had just come back from 12 days at a coastal Streaky Bay farm. 12 days of sea, sand and paddocks. We reinforced that we didn't want Ruby shorn like a sheep and the stylists delivered.
I'm sure it takes considerable time, skill and patience to groom her, and the charge indicates this.
I took Ruby in last Wed as per the booking. A quite view indicated there were already several dogs there plus one on the workbench.
Angela came thru the counter gate to take Ruby and felt under Ruby, stating there was some matting there. Not as much as the last visit was the quick but useless debate. Might need to go a bit shorter they said. At no stage, contrary to their fabricated commentry, did they point out another dog and say Ruby would look like that. (Obviously as we don't want her shorn). A bit shorter meant a bit shorter to last time, as they know we don't want her with a buzz cut all over.
Jaimee txt me at 11.40 to pick Ruby up as they were closing at midday (not mentioned at booking nor drop off). I was shocked when I saw how short Ruby was. Jaimee was on the phone out the back and not involved. Ruby was very happy to see me and get away from being caged and the humiliation of being shorn like a sheep. Once home whilst giving Ruby a comforting cuddle I noticed 2 bruises/burns on the inside of her lower tummy that weren't there prior.
Once my wife got home and saw how Ruby was shorn and then the bruises, she was naturally angry.
On reflection, Ruby attended YPCS in a similar but not worse condition of matting where they successfully groomed her out. Given the number of dogs already there, plus Ruby and any other dogs that turned up, plus the stylists desire to shut down at midday, one could conclude they were rushed and took the quick and simple way out by shearing Ruby instead of groomin her (bruises incl).
Think about it - a hairdresser could reduce a full head of human hair to a buzz cut in 30 seconds. A shearer can shear 8-13 sheep per hour. Angela most probably only needed 3 minutes to shear Ruby. Say 10 minutes tops with a few sprays of perfume. Done. At acharge of>$120 that equates to me being ripped at $>720 per hour.
Ruby, due to being born with hip displacement, has been at the same vet clinic all her life and is there on a quarterly basis. No vet has ever mentioned, been concerned or queried Ruby's conditioning, coat or found any skin problems. Ruby is checked daily for prickles, grass seeds etc. Another fabricated accusation from Jaimee/Angela
If you look closely at the (unauthorised) photo Jaimee has placed on her facebook of Ruby being shorn, the clump in the middle is actually the 'fleece' from the shearing at the top of her body folding over her side. A double layer. Her actual fur is as per her shoulder region of the photo.
Why did Jaimee feel the need to take the photo and why when my wife rang her and introduced herself, did Jaimee get immediately defensive and aggressive. Why did she assume the call was going to be negative rather than a congratulatory one for a job well done? Guilt?
After many calls/txts, mainly late at night demanding Vicki's poor review be taken down and (hollow) threats of legal action, Vicki did so. The quid pro quo was that Jaimee would take down her garbage about us from her facebook page. Jaimee has reneged on that undertaking. Take my vet's positive appraisal people!
