Columbia, SC Yugo Lofts...I am shocked. We saw a model unit and when we asked to see an actual unit we were refused. There is no comparison. Lol Right now my kid just moved in. Not sure they actually think they need to clean or repair things because young 18 and 19 year olds may be unlikely to complain or ask for help. Of course I raised concerns. Safety and proper living conditions according to the SC law are important to be maintained at the minimum, but I am so sad to see such disrepair with this beautiful historical building. Some really neat features. It must be so overwhelming and discouraging for the staff to be given so little to work with. It would not take much to remain an affordable student housing but yet also basically maintained, if just the very basic level? Maybe the management company is just started tending to it and needs time? The staff did asked maintenance to come in and they got the AC going (still falling apart with cardboad and duct tape flowing from unit but at least it wasnt 89 degrees in there any longer), repaired the stove, replaced the garbage disposal and we were then able to use the dishwasher which was in good shape likewise the fridge was in good shape. I think they also reworked the inside of the toilet and probs replaced the boarding there directly under it. They did send house keeping in probably because I mentioned the used condom in crawl space, spent ammunition shells and vomit (we discovered in the drawers and on the wall) and what looks to be diarrhea in the hot water crawl space and weird icky black pile under the sink (I just asked them to clean the kitchen and bathroom (bless them, there is hardly a way to properly clean (paint chips falling from ceilings and walls, holes and broken doors, cabinets are full of rotting boards etc. The appartment was not cleaned before move in and I imagine the previous kids actually didnt spend much time in the kitchen because the floor and cabinets were a disaster but the inside of the fridge and oven were not...probs to cook on the top because the liners were changed and our guy got the eyes fitted correctly for use...dishwasher was in good shape...nothing is finished and outlets and switches are randomely painted over while other places have no paint ...we were told to note any damage or we would be charge for it. I will be ashamed when she moves out and the next tenant thinks she left all the horrible damage in every corner of the apartment. It would be easier and maybe more uplifting to note what is NOT damaged. We took a couple hours of photos and videos per the requirements and to protect ourselves. It is just amazing to me. They get an extra star because staff helped best they could and I have hope my kid's stay might be a good one. When it is time. I would like to leave the community a little better than we found it. Right now I am overwhelmed how we could exactly do that. There is just so much, but I have some little ideas. I think move in is probably your best chance to get help, so communication now is important. It is difficult to get text, email or phone assistance. I feel we got lucky with the care we had. It might be difficult for me to help add my own maintenance to the apartment without responsive communication from them.

Believe every awful thing you have heard

For reference, I am staying at Catherine House.

My stay started with me entering the room I had rented to find clear signs that they had not properly checked the room. A used pillow from a previous resident remained on my bed, every surface which wasnt directly reachable was caked with dust and there are scuff marks all over the walls in every direction.

Then, approximately one week into my stay, maintenance staff entered my room whilst I was unclothed, without knocking or receiving an okay from me and without providing the required notice which Yugo themselves state in their tenancy agreement.

Moving on another week, whilst I was asleep, my mirror which was poorly affixed to the wall fell down and shattered. For this mistake which Yugo made in affixing the mirror, I was charged 54 pounds which honestly, I expected considering how useless any form of communication was with anybody at this building.

From here, I hoped the bull***t had ended, and that I could at least ride out the rest of my short stay without another major issue and write a review as I left so others dont consider staying here. However, just this morning, once again another different maintenance staff member entered my flat without knocking or providing any prior notice.

As I stated earlier, all of the staff I have spoken to on site have been unable to help in any capacity with any of these grievances and I cannot think of a single net positive interaction. I was even questioned when picking up a parcel I had ordered because I have had a legal name change which wasnt reflected on my passport yet, which they were made aware of before I ever checked in.

This is a horrendous company, dont even consider for one second staying here.

The company do NOT stop flatmates smoking cigarettes or drugs in the flats despite complaints to Yugo. A flatmate has a pet, and again Yugo say they won't do anything about it. The fridge has been broken for at least 3 weeks, and despite reports via the app and in person at Reception, nothing has been done. The handles for the cooker were lying on the floor when we moved in, and are still on the floor. The sofa is broken, and nothing is being done to replace it.

Everything sucked! They charge way too much and the heating in my room did not work the whole year I lived there. I repeatedly reported it, they knew something was wrong with it, yet it was never properly fixed. In the end, I just gave up reporting things. It was so uncomfortable. There are so many things that I could list, the endless fire alarms, the paper thin walls, the tiny kitchen for eight people to share, and so on. The front office repeatedly emailed us about useless things and about inspections of various things the day before or the day of the inspection or two days before and then no one showed up. Which sucked because I did not like random people in my room. They changed the two other house in a hotel for the summer and locked the main entrance and the big laundry room that they said would still be open for us. And the trash bins were left multiple times, for days by the front gate and it smelled disgusting.

Myself, my Partner and 2 sons stayed in the Yugo Amnis house in Cork for 2 days, never again. When we arrived the room my partner and i were being put in absolute stunk of cigarette smoke and the room was not clean. The dust was thick everywhere, there was hair, food particles among other things on the floor. Everytime we had showers and walked across the floor our feet were full of dust etc..it was gross. The bed was not comfortable and when we put back the duvet we had to brush bit off the sheet on the mattress. One of the boys has asthma, so apart from unclean rooms being unhygienic, it is also bad for health reasons. The room the boys were being put in wasn’t even cleaned from the last people staying in it. We all had to be put into 2 other rooms, again they were not clean. Whoever cleans those rooms needs to be shown how to use a hoover or they need to be replaced. Only positive thing i have to say is the staff were lovely and very helpful, other then that there is nothing positive about our stay there.

The door with key access to the building is open since it's broken and we got robbed on our move out day and no one helped us :) We tried to get CCTV or have someone check who use their electronic key card to open our door but they refused to help so we had to go to the police station.

The toilet broke once a month, the shower leaks water into the living area causing floods and again no one does anything about that even though we asked about for help every day.

Noises at night from neighbours, some ventilator making noise all night. Good luck having a good nights sleep here.

Absolutely disgusting

I would urge people to think twice before considering this company.

I do not believe they care about student safety. My bike was one of the many stolen from one of their accommodations (The Courtrooms, Bristol). Even when they were notified of these incidents they failed to notify other students of this safety issue.

I won a voucher with this company but it's been 4 months and they still haven't gotten it to me. Even if they've changed their name from 'The Student Housing Company' (look up their reviews for a laugh), they're still the same company who are happy to take your money and do nothing else

I stayed at Alvarium Yugo, Frankfurt, Germany till September 26. It is almost 3 months and they haven't given my deposit amounting to 2194 Euros back.

I was a long-term tenant at YUGO in Hamburg, Germany. Generally, my experience was good. After living there for 2 years, I did the check-out inspection of the apartment. The team complimented me for how clean the apartment was. There were some small stains on the walls and they asked me to pay 40€ to fix them. We agreed and we signed a contract stating 40€.

I left the apartment on the 23/09. Now, on the 26/10, more than a month later, they are notifying me that they will take 250€ INSTEAD of 40€ because as they report in their message:

"Due to the current difficult economic situation [...]costs for external service providers have increased significantly [...]We regret this very much, but we have to pass on additional costs to you"

This is absurd, a cost increase from 40€ to 250€ is unbelievable.

Also, one month after I left THEY STILL HAVE MY FULL DEPOSIT. Even though they have my deposit, they withdrew 40€ from my bank account, and they scheduled a debit of 210€ WITHOUT MY CONSENT.

I wouldn’t try booking any apartment inspections at this place. They send you confirmation emails that provide no address to attend, only a name of the place. No names or direct contact of the individual leading the inspection is available either. The ambiguity is horrible.

Upon arrival, nobody is at the receptionist desk despite it being 10AM. No one is answering the calls either. A flimsy sign on the side of the front desk that kindly redirects us to the location opposite Berkeley if unattended. Funnily enough, you can only access this building with a code or card. Pretty redundant.

Waste of time. Book inspections somewhere else.

I’ve been here since September and there are only two positives about living in this nightmare. Rooms are comfortable and spacious, nicely decorated and furnished but if you want to leave in a back brace bring your own mattress. A mattress topper doesn’t fix a thing. Another positive is the location as it’s central and near LJMU university buildings - along with a little Tesco. But other than that it’s dog s***.

Some staff are made up of student residents which means people are treated differently to others which obviously isn’t professional. They enter the flats unannounced, but not for necessary reasoning. and I have been told that other rooms have been entered when the tenant isn’t present without permission, to retrieve items for flatmates within the same flat. People pay for safety and privacy and this formed clique apparently means the rules are voided.

My degree requires placements and this means working 14 hour shifts +2 hours travel time, night shifts and shorts. Our breaks also don’t fit the same timetable as the majority of degrees do and work placements through summer. One thing I didn’t f****** expect is to be woken up at 7:30 every morning by scaffolders every day from the back end of March till present of me writing this review which is the day posted. Currently waiting to be woken up in the morning by s***** music on s**** JBL, my bed vibrating to the drills in the wall and hollering middle aged men. I genuinely haven’t opened my curtains since March as the builders will peer in and try talk to you, think I might start growing fangs.
I get maintenance needs to be done but this takes the mick. I chose private in hope that sleep would be easier to get instead of uni halls. We weren’t notified which with every single window of this building made of windows needing redone in a 5 month + job, I doubt was only decided this September. We’ve complained about a broken panel that has been banging since December and has only had 2 screws knocked into it by these builders and left in a worse condition than it started.

Don’t bother complaining as when I had people banging on my wall and music playing 7pm-7am Sunday-Monday, I was genuinely told to call the police by reception. Thanks darling.

Reviews are fake as everyone is bribed in Facebook messenger groups and emails to give good reviews to be rewarded with Easter eggs and money (which every skint student is going to take advantage of).
They are greedy b******* but every other company takes advantage of students so I guess they don’t want to feel left out x you’ll get a couple surprise payments after you book for things which is still unclear to me by the way x

For first year students circuit laundry is a SCAM. For a building this size there are 6 washing machines and 6 dryers. Non of which actually clean or dry. I’ve had stained sheets since September. You also have to take out a mortgage to afford the prices.

Bins are overran with rats but pets aren’t allowed on premises? But staff can bring their dogs to work, but I can’t keep a goldfish?

Flatmates had vodka stolen from the cleaners and when reported nothing was done.

Drugs are also sold on premises

Hope you aren’t claustrophobic either as your caravan sized shower will clog every 6 to 8 weeks, so make sure to bring drain unblocker x

Yugo Globeworks is a lovely place to stay. It has all the facilities a student wants, including a gym, cinema room, games room and a communal lounge to relax.

The rooms are a decent size but depends on the type of room. I stay in a studio room so it has a bathroom, desk, double bed, and a kitchen/dining area. The rent is at a reasonable price too.

The staff are very friendly, caring, and are all willing to help with any problems or queries you may have. James is the manager here. He is kind, caring, and puts alot of effort into helping all the students with the best of his ability.
Nikki and Debs are soo friendly, and kind hearted. They are always helping everyone out and are easily approachable.
They are so hardworking, caring, and very friendly. They are very supportive and always cheer me up.
Mani is the handy man here at Yugo Globeworks. He is very helpful and is a hardworker. He is always helping students with any maintenance problems that may occur in your rooms. He is very funny and always makes my day.
Gary and Martin are the night staff here. They are so supportive, caring, kind, and are always at hand all night. I always feel safe as there is always staff 24 hours a day.

Overall, I would recommend Yugo to all students that come here and study. It is the best place to stay and I cannot fault the accommodation.

The staff at the front desk are so polite and helpful. Couldn’t ask for better service. The manager is so sweet and always willing to help and have a laugh. The maintenance man is extremely skilled and quick when doing things that need to be done. The amazing service I have been given has persuaded me to book again next year. The staff create a very welcoming atmosphere and provide the beat service that I have experienced in the past 2 years by far.
