Bought a front door and garage door 6ish years ago. Had non stop issues with it and several call outs as it went out of alignment stopping it from working properly. It is now out of warranty so decided to use a different company to conduct a survey of it. They have found that the installation of the door is appalling, and is the cause of the door going out of alignment several times. It has also caused the mechanism to now go faulty, so I am having to pay for the survey and a new mechanism, as well as eventually and rip out and reinstallation of my front door. All costing me money. Would be great if ZAP could cover these costs as it is their error, not mine.

I bought an insulated sectional up and over door, to my new garage with bedroom above the idea to reduce cold air in to the garage and therefore heat loss. Had the door installed fine, once the renderers finished their bit to close up to the garage door frame it became obvious the door did not seal fully despite being advised by the sales person it would.
After 4 attempts to get the door to seal im now told it is impossible to fully seal the door making the insulation totally redundant and zap have driven screws in to one side that many times they don't hold in place. Despite conversations with the manufacturer I still await a resolution but it looks currently like they have damaged my door and I will just have to live with that as both zap and manufacturer gone silent.
I wont be returning to zap for future work.

We’ve had Zap to supply and fit our new garage and front doors. The quality of the doors are great - Ruben & Kyle didn’t have the right tool for the letterbox fitting so Sam and Mitch came back 2 days later to fit it. All 4 of these lads are a credit to the company - not only are they very professional, their work is to such a high standard and they left everything really tidy. Zap as a company have been brilliant and kept us up to date with progress and fitting dates

I am very old and cannot do with people letting me down one way or another. Zap Garages were absolutely fantastic from start to finish.

From the first phone call I made to having the garage doors fitted , everything moved with courtesy and efficiency. Personnel arrived on the day and at the time agreed, emails and phone calls re changes I requested were responded to swiftly positively, and courteously and the job was completed with absolutely no mess!

I am delighted with the roller door which does exactly what I wanted it to for my safety and convenience and which is, in my view, very reasonably priced.

I thoroughly recommend this company and I wish them well in the future.

From start to finish, dealing with Zap has been great – professional, friendly and thoughtful. I gave two stars for the installation which was hassle free and the office manager who was helpful when my installation date was previously cancelled at short notice with it transpiring that my garage door was no where near being ready for install.

However, I find it disgusting to be held to ransom on my own doorstep with "either you pay in full or we keep the keys to your new garage door". I was of a mind to say "keep your keys" but had the available funds to pay it. Other customers may have had to raise monies from other accounts so would have been left in a really poor and potentially stressful situation as well as the installers who are left in a very awkward position. A really poor way to do business in my opinion!

Perfect example of a professional business from initial survey, on-going customer care ( Hayley) to installation. Friendly and knowledgeable installers (John and Declan) the whole process was perfect. I have no hesitation in recommending Zap Garage doors.

Had a remote controlled roller door fitted and we are really pleased with the quality. The fitters, Thomas and Patrick did an excellent job and were very helpful. The lead time from ordering to fitting was great. They also took away the old garage door. Would definitely recommend Zap.

Just had a Hörmann electric garage door fitted by Zap Garage Doors. It was a complex project fitting in and around a construction project so timings were a factor. This made things a bit harder but the door has been installed and is excellent. I would recommend Zap and maybe visit one of their two showrooms in South Yorkshire with your questions list before you start any project.

Just had my brilliant new garage door fitted by Kyle and Ruben. These 2 lovely lads did a great job, were very professional and polite, showed me how to use the door and how to care for it. All the old doors and frames were taken away and the area left clean and tidy. One happy customer!

Do not use this company!

If the product fails out of hours they don’t answer the phone, but then won’t cover the cost of a locksmith needed to replace 4-month old failed lock that should be covered under warranty.
ZAP supplied us with two doors - one was faulty and exchanged after it was agreed by the manufacturer. When changing that door ZAP removed the old lock from the old door to use in the replacement, but 2-weeks later the lock failed. At that point the lock was only 4-months old. When swapping the door, they also broke one of the hinges, so instead of 3 working hinges on a heavy door, for a month there were only 2 (even this issue had to be chased several times to get a resolution).
The lock failed around 6pm on a Friday night. I was away but my family were now locked out of our house and so had to call a locksmith to gain entry. Despite trying to fix the lock, the locksmith confirmed it had failed and replaced it with a new one. I contacted ZAP during working hours following the issue but they are refusing to pay any costs and now avoiding any attempt to have a discussion.

They quote: “Zap Garage Doors cannot be responsible for a defective lock barrel that has come from another supplier, and therefore we can not refund any monies spent to resolve an issue with
other parties’ goods. If the supplier wishes to refund you, part or otherwise, they can only do this when sufficient time has been given to inspect the barrel and confirm it is defective.”
We bought the door as a package from ZAP. They chose the lock supplier, not me (I don’t even know who their supplier is). I believe my contract is with ZAP and was firm to state that to them. As a result they accused me of bullying!

They also said: “On the day of fault, Zap Garage Doors should have been notified to inform us of an issue, this would have given us a chance to sort the problem, but we couldn’t as you had only informed us after the event when a locksmith had been called. If the other door was used and the front door was accessed from the inside maybe the lock would have opened correctly. The Lock Barrell is covered by a free call out if found to be defective. A call to us would have advised of that and no callout charge would have been necessary.”
The lock failure happened on a Friday night at around 6pm, so to test the theory they would have resolved the issue I called ZAP at exactly the same time the incident happened but 2 weeks later. My call was diverted to answer phone, so it is fair to assume they wouldn’t have picked up 2 weeks earlier? My family didn’t know ZAP was the supplier and just needed access to our house. Also, they hadn’t taken any other door keys when they left the property, just the one for the door that failed - they didn’t expect the lock to fail after just 4-months.

Finally, I did tell ZAP that I would leave a poor review if they didn’t step up and cover the cost of a new lock and the locksmith call out charge. On that point they accused me of blackmail and now won’t respond to calls or emails - very convenient.

So that is my experience of ZAP.

I will be chasing to recover costs through the small claims court for a failed product they supplied.

UPDATE 06.12.2024 - I have now seen ZAPs response to my review which is disingenuous as they initially they told me they would send the lock for evaluation and only credit if they were credited themselves. When I voiced my dissatisfaction with this they then emailed me their T&Cs, stated they would not cover the call-out or replacement lock costs and as you can see from the trail above, refused to engage further.
I have emailed them twice since my post and have no response. Not even an acknowledgement.

I am happy to keep updating this thread until we have a satisfactory conclusion, highlighting every time I email you without getting any response.

Just resolve the issue and pay me the £217 it cost me to replace a 4-month failed lock.

UPDATE - 16.12.2024
ZAPs lock supplier reported the lock was too damaged to undertake an assessment, so as goodwill credited ZAP the £217 it cost for a replacement lock and call-out charges. In turn ZAP have credited our account.
The matter is now resolved.

Absolutely amazing company! Had a problem with my garage door and the guys came out asap to sort it, all done and working beautifully again!! Highly recommend this company, products high quality, service 1st class , staff & fitters are brilliant. Thankyou

Having purchased my garage door from Zap 2 years ago John and Declan (I’m sure will be from the Sheffield/Chesterfield branch) came to service it 30.9.24. Both are very professional and helpful and thoroughly cleaned the runners, wheels and springs, checked all the screws were tight and slightly adjusted the motor to give it a smoother ride as well as refreshing my knowledge on maintenance myself. On top of this, I asked them if they could quickly pop round to my elderly neighbour who has had a very bad experience elsewhere with repairs and servicing. John and Declan popped over, confirmed it isn’t yet ready for a service and also cleaned down and lubricated the rails without charge. Superb customer service that has saved her a lot of worry due to previous problems with another door company and she will now be using Zap moving forwards. Full marks - thank you!
