Unfortunately
Unfortunately, I had a very disappointing experience with West Coast Harley-Davidson Hillington.
Less than three months ago, I purchased a motorcycle from them (which has now been sold back to them).
From the beginning, I wasn’t happy with the rear brake performance, the harsh ride, and the excessive heat from the bike that regularly burned my right leg while riding. When I raised these concerns, I was told they were “characteristics of the bike.” If that genuinely is Harley-Davidson’s position, then I think they need to seriously reconsider the design of these motorcycles. A rear brake that inspires very little confidence, a harsh ride, and enough heat to regularly burn a rider’s leg shouldn’t simply be dismissed as “characteristics.”
I later agreed to sell the motorcycle back to the dealership. Despite already accepting a loss of around £2,500 compared to what I had paid less than three months earlier, there was an unnecessary amount of discussion over the accessories and extras that came with the bike. Given the financial loss I was already accepting, this felt petty and left a poor impression.
I was then told to bring the bike in on Tuesday to complete the sale. However, when I arrived, I was told they couldn’t pay me that day and that the money would be transferred to my bank account later. I asked for a receipt or written confirmation of the transaction, but I was told it would be emailed to me. It never was.
By Wednesday afternoon, I still hadn’t received the payment, so I called. The person dealing with the transaction seemed unwilling to speak to me. When I asked the receptionist if I could speak to the manager, the same person took the phone and told me they didn’t know when they would be able to pay me. I was also told that if I wasn’t happy, I could simply come and collect the motorcycle again – which to me was nothing short of shoddy customer service.
At that point I drove back to the dealership because it was clear the matter wasn’t going to be resolved over the phone. Only then was I told the money would be in my account by the following day, which it eventually was.
My issue isn’t the one-day delay in payment. It’s the poor communication, the failure to do what was promised, and the unprofessional way I was treated throughout the process. If you tell a customer they’ll be paid on a particular day, provide written confirmation, or call them with an update, then that’s exactly what should happen.
I expected a much higher standard of customer service from an official Harley-Davidson dealership.
Sadly, this experience has completely damaged my confidence in both the dealership and the brand, and I personally won’t be buying from or dealing with them again.
