Avoid!! Took payment for membership and didn’t create an account. Called the billing number as directed and they said they are unable to help/ cannot issue a refund and instead to go through the payment merchant. So now I am left out of pocket with no gym membership. Very unhelpful.

I’ve been going to the Gym Group Colchester for two months now and I’m very happy with it. The staff are really nice, and it’s great having options for classes. My only criticism is the lack of wet towels or anything to sanitise the equipment after someone else has used it.

This gym is never cleaned. Bad equipment. Broken lockers. Dirty clothes left for days. Toilets are disgusting. Customers are leaving right and left.

I love it, loads of equipment and love the showers, it's brilliant, and the staff are lovely, wouldn't go anywhere else, oh the app is pretty smart too,

Fairly new to this gym, I like the fact it's a rolling monthly contract, The Gym itself is ok, I do go early so only a few people using the gym, unable to comment on staff as none of them are there at 5am

My issue is the changing room, shower and toilet they needs a deep clean or even a good clean daily, understand it is always in use but still the same marks and dirt week after week, surely cleaning can be done during quieter periods
I have now stop using them and shower at home,
If no improvement soon will be looking for another cleaner gym.

I love the gym but the female gym instructor is extremely rude

This gym is excellent, the staff are helpful and friendly. There are plenty of machines so no problem with overcrowding and everything is clean. my personal trainer is full of helpful advice and I would recommend Gym Group to anyone.

Whilst there has been some.... Minor improvement over the last few weeks like the changing room has all its ceiling tiles and isn't ice cold,
I mean it still needs all the stained, rotten and rusted stuff replaced.
I can't remember the last time the backs of the shower doors were wiped down, generally looking like an art installation in there.
With the gym itself I still have to clear areas every morning to actually get to and use the equipment.
for some reason it's just accepted that people can trash this gym to the point the HSE would definitely take issue, how people can just walk away from the mess they make is beyond me, but clearly the signs throughout the gym don't work, it would be nice to come to the gym without tripping A over T.

Still no real improvement, flooring still coming away, rusted and worn equipment, missing equipment i.e 40kg dumbbells, paint pealing off the walls....unless gym group are going in hard for that underfunded dilapidated look, in which case nailed it.
But on a plus the machines have been push about, at least I get to potentially break my neck in a more organised space.

The sad thing is having this much space in this type of city location is rare and has so much potential, but by the looks of this gym head office have just given up.

The staff here are excellent but they could be me reactive towards those that constantly trash this gym.
Hats off to them having to make do with what we have and constantly having to think up of fixes with the poor funding this 17 year old gym gets.....When really what this ageing gym really needs is a massive overhaul and then adequate funding to keep on top of maintenance for this busy city centre location

Top quality PTs - I highly recommend Marty

The PTs at the gym always make me feel welcome and always say hello. Marty in particular is very helpful around the gym and has helped me out many times.

Good range of equipment, clean and centrally located. Special shout out to Marty Smith for always being awesome, super helpful and knowledgeable about the equipment and how to use it to best effect.

Great location, easily accessible, love being able to go whenever the urge to workout hits me...very competitive pricing is also a bonus! Not to mention friendly and helpful staff; had some issues when I first started but PT Marty was so down to earth and approachable, and has been super supportive of my journey since!

The gold standard of gyms in Colchester! Everything is well-maintained and the space is used effectively. Staff are really friendly and supportive (shout out to Marty, absolutely lovely bloke who goes above and beyond for customers). And pretty cheap which doesn't hurt, lol!

With the encouragement and guidance from Marty, I was able to not only lose nearly 10kg, but improve injuries to my knees and increase my mobility and strength. Before his training I was stuck in a routine of injuries and weight gain but his structured plan and advice has enabled me to become much healthier and fitter.

Lovely atmosphere, spotlessly clean, Marty is a great Pt he always pushes me and gets me to try new equipment I would normally avoid.

Best gym in Colchester. I was hesitant to go to a gym but Marty made me feel welcome and comfortable very knowledgeable and professional. Wouldn't go anywhere els 100% recommended.

When I first moved to Colchester I decided to try out thus 'get fit' malarkey, so signed up to 'The Gym' and booked an induction. Thank goodness Marty was the one to welcome me. He was very knowledgeable and hilarious and quickly became my PT. Keep doing what you're doing.

Honestly one of the best gyms I've been to, all the equipment is easy to use and the staff are very nice and helpful. Marty was one who was cool, knowledgeable and very friendly.
