Rejected a defective 2023 vehicle within 24 hours – Dealer refusing statutory rights
I collected a nearly new 2023 Ford Focus ST from Sytner Select Cardiff. The handover was rushed with no vehicle walk-around provided. Within 24 hours, the vehicle manifested multiple significant defects: a severe engine misfire/idle hunt on cold starts, an undisclosed body dent on the boot lid, a prominent structural rattle from the panoramic sunroof, and heavy mechanical clunking from the drivetrain during load changes.
I exercised my statutory Short-Term Right to Reject the vehicle under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 within 24 hours, returned the vehicle immediately to preserve its condition, and left it on their premises.
Sytner's workshop inspected the car and verbally confirmed to me that the structural roof rattle, the body damage, and the mechanical drivetrain clunking are all physically present on the vehicle. Unbelievably, they have logged a conclusion of "no fault identified" to commercially shield themselves, claiming these verified defects are "normal characteristics."
When I tried to discuss this with Sales Manager Les Berry, he aggressively claimed I had simply "changed my mind," refused to honor my statutory consumer rights.
The vehicle remains rejected on their forecourt. A formal dispute has been raised directly with Black Horse finance to completely unwind the agreement. Absolute textbook example of appalling post-sale customer care. Avoid this dealership.

Appalling experience
Appalling experience—unsafe driving, condescending staff and unrefunded charges.
I purchased a Renault Clio from Sytner Select Cardiff in May, and the entire process was a nightmare from start to finish.
Unrefunded Charges: I was double-charged the reservation fee due to a faulty payment link sent by Liam Jones. Despite raising this multiple times over the last three weeks, including via the dedicated section on their website, I still haven't been refunded.
Reckless Test Drive: Our salesperson, Darius Nejad, drove dangerously during the test drive. He was speeding, driving one-handed, and even took a phone call on his mobile while at the wheel.
Terrible Customer Service: The handover took an agonising four hours. Darius spent the whole time bragging about his sales skills, while the manager, Les Berry, was deeply patronising—literally putting on a childlike voice to read FCA documents and aggressively pushing overpriced warranties.
Zero Aftercare: A tyre pressure warning light came on during my drive home. I texted Darius about the car issue and my missing refund, and I have been completely ignored.
Save your time and money. Go to a dealership that respects basic driving laws and its customers.

The dealership’s response below perfectly illustrates exactly why you should avoid this business. Instead of taking accountability, they have attempted to publicly gaslight me, deny my experience and even invent details about my life to excuse their staff's behaviour.
The Duplicate Payment: They claim no duplicate payment was received. My bank statements clearly show the money left my account, and I have now been forced to initiate a bank chargeback because they refuse to investigate properly.
The Reckless Driving: I know the difference between a smartwatch notification and a salesperson physically holding a mobile phone, driving one-handed, and doing 48mph in a 30mph zone. Their refusal to take a severe safety issue seriously is alarming.
Fabricated "Rapport": They claim our agonising wait was actually "rapport-building" regarding my background in "furniture sales." I work in finance and have never worked in sales. They clearly did not listen to a word I said and are simply making things up to excuse the salesperson.
Blame-Shifting: They suggest I shouldn't have proceeded with the sale if I was unhappy, and that I used the "wrong channels" to report my tyre issue. Darius literally texted me to ask how the car was—I replied reporting the fault and asking for my refund and was ignored.
If you buy a car here and something goes wrong, expect complete denial, fabricated excuses and zero accountability. I am actively pursuing my chargeback and will be reporting Sytner Select Cardiff to the Motor Ombudsman.

However, we would like to clarify that, although your feedback suggests that a refund has not been processed, our records show that a second deposit was never successfully processed. As discussed with you previously and supported by the documentation provided, no duplicate payment was received by us. We would therefore respectfully ask that you review your bank account records, as advised during our correspondence, to confirm the status of the transaction. We are also concerned to read your comments regarding members of our team. However, following a review of the matters raised, we do not agree with all aspects of your account. Having discussed your concerns with Darius, he has confirmed that he did not answer or engage in a phone call whilst conducting the test drive. Calls are notified via a smartwatch and, whilst a notification may have been received, our understanding is that no call was accepted during the journey. We have found no evidence to suggest that a mobile phone was used whilst driving. With regard to your comments about discussions during the appointment, our understanding is that conversation took place around your respective sales backgrounds, including your experience within furniture sales. We are advised that the discussion was intended as general conversation and rapport-building rather than self-promotion, and therefore does not align with the impression conveyed in your review. Whilst we appreciate that perceptions can differ, it is disappointing to learn that you felt the sales and handover process fell below your expectations. We would note that, throughout the purchasing journey, opportunities were available to raise any concerns, and the transaction ultimately proceeded following the test drive and vehicle presentation. Whilst we fully respect your right to reflect on your experience afterwards, our investigation has not identified concerns at the time that would have indicated the level of dissatisfaction described in your review. With regard to the tyre pressure warning light, we would have been more than happy to assist had this been brought to our attention through our aftersales channels. Customer satisfaction remains important to us, and whilst we do not agree with several of the assertions made within your review, we remain committed to providing support to our customers and addressing any genuine concerns raised. Frustrated car buyer
Have contacted this company in an attempt to buy a car. Only get an automatic response from Sia their digital assistant. Would prefer to speak to a person to negotiate a reasonable part exchange value in the first instance. This would prevent a 180 mile round trip. The Sia digital assistant is frustrating, it provides annoying automated replies rather than addressing the questions. Two weeks down still haven’t heard from a person. I think a sales prevention team would do a better job. Sadly a sale opportunity missed.

I understand that we have made contact with you through Liam Jones, our Sales Manager, at this point and your Porsche RS60 Spyder was discussed as a potential part exchange. To move forward with the transaction, you required a valuation that was above the current market value. Whilst your vehicle is undoubtedly a rare and desirable example, we were unfortunately unable to meet your valuation expectations, I am naturally disappointed that we could not achieve the figure you were seeking.
