I note from the reviews that A R Stockton seems mostly to do well, but when they don't they're a disaster. There's apparently no middle ground, which doesn't surprise me. My experience falls in the latter category.

Behind the touchy feely family business facade is a company who'll resist any liability in the event of a problem, and will try to kick your issue down the road until you give up. They like the terms "settlement" and "normal wear and tear" by the way, especially the longer things go on. We heard both often, even in the first month after delivery.

In a nutshell, once an expensive piece of furniture they'd supplied us started to go badly wrong very early (I mean within a month), their approach was first to try to patch the article up though if anything this just made things worse later. They also sent in an "expert" to assess the furniture. On both occasions we were told on the day that the suite had significant problems, but when we finally got Stockton to agree to send us their written reports (in itself a challenge), they were clearly whitewashing exercises, effectively saying nothing was wrong, we just had high "customer expectations".

As we wouldn't give up, Stocktons then suggested we contact the industry Ombudsman, only to find out Stocktons are not members and so not subject to its jurisdiction! They suggested then that we seek our own third party assessment. We found a firm of exceptional credentials, whose subsequent report was damning across many aspects of the suite. Stockton's approach was to disregard it, and offer no more than a further derisory patch up as a "goodwill gesture".

Ultimately, because we'd paid by credit card, we contacted the issuer, who on considering the evidence concluded that Stockton's was in breach of contract, refunding us in full. I hope they recover this from Stocktons.

So my advice is, if you buy anything from Stocktons, no matter how small, pay on credit card. If there's a problem, give Stocktons the opportunity to put it right, but also keep a full record. Also deal with them in writing; they like to use phone where there's no record. In the event you suffer a similar experience to us, pursue a Section 75 claim through your credit card provider. If your case is sound, you'll get resolution.

Fantastic products and service. From my initial order and confirmation from Breck, to the call from customer services with updates and luckily a much earlier delivery date than expected, and last but not least the lovely delivery crew. Nothing has been too much trouble for this company, which really does make a refreshing change at the moment!! Thank you and wouldn't hesitate to recommend.

Have had an amazing experience over the last two years shopping at Stockton’s. We moved into a new house and had a lot of furniture to buy. We found everything we needed there. Kit was so helpful in helping us select our pieces. They look fabulous. He and his staff are very knowledgeable. The delivery team is great too. They always delivered at the time they said they would be there. So courteous is setting everything up. Highly recommend shopping there.

The staff in the store were very helpful and knew their products. High quality products too. Delivery to London, and the delivery guys did a great job building the furniture and making sure we were happy with it all.

Following a recent Kitchen Lounge Diner Transformation … it was imperative that the new furniture was in-keeping with the style, colours and lines of the new modern looking kitchen.

I decided to visit Stocktons for some ideas. From the moment I stepped into the showroom, I was warmly greeted with a smile and welcoming words. After some time browsing around, I was approached by one of the very knowledgeable sales consultants.

I informed him of my requirements and dimensions: Corner Sofa, Dining Table, Chairs, Bar Stools, Coffee Table.

Straight away I was advised on various options, actively encouraged to touch and try the furniture, take photos (so I could really consider the right items and specs for when I returned home). He even asked me to show him photos of my new kitchen and the space I had available to play with … this was so he could advise on the best options regarding fit, designs and look ensuring the flow worked well for the room.

There was no hard selling, actively encouraged to go home and consider the options … a few days later, I rang Stocktons to place an order.

Fantastic delivery and incredibly happy with my new furniture. Highly recommend this outfit, no matter how small or how large your shopping list is … they genuinely care that you are happy. Amazing!!
