My boys absolutely love their Rock Steady sessions!
The energy, fun, and encouragement they receive each week have made such a positive impact. Jack, their mentor, is incredibly patient and understanding Jack has a real gift for making every child feel valued, especially those who are neurodiverse. His approach shows that music should be accessible to all children, and his patience and kindness make that belief a reality.
The team is always approachable and supportive, keeping us updated with great communication. I really appreciate the way they nurture confidence and teamwork through musicit’s been wonderful to see my boys grow in both areas.
I’d love to see Rock Steady develop an app in the future, so children can continue learning at home, build on their skills, and even gain more certifications. That would be such a fantastic extension of the program.
Overall, Rock Steady has been a brilliant experience for my family, and I couldn’t recommend it more highly.

My child enjoyed the lessons
My child enjoyed the lessons. The teacher was very cool, and she felt happy and comfortable in his presence. Going to Rocksteady was like the "precious time" for my child. I attended all the concerts and was super amazed at how much the teacher managed to do with the kids in such a short time. Very impressive!

Kayra has absolutely loved her…
Kayra has absolutely loved her Rocksteady classes this term. She always looks forward to her sessions and comes home excited to share what she’s learned. It was amazing watching her perform in the concert, her confidence, energy, and joy while singing truly shone through. Disappointing
We paid for a year of drum lessons where our 6-year old learned nothing. The classes lasted only a few minutes per child. This year he switched to singing, and in two months they changed band leaders three times. When we cancelled from December, Rocksteady refused to let him perform at the concert we’d already paid lessons for unless we paid an extra month (£45) for a 3 minute performance. The concert date is scheduled beginning of December (unless they change the date last minute as they’ve done so few times in the past).
After they cut a November class short, I contacted them again and spoke with Michael Apaghauka, who told me that even with missed or disrupted lessons, their terms mean my son still couldn’t attend the concert. He refused to check with anyone else, stating there was no one more superior than him.
I also offered to pay for my child attending and performing at the concert in December as a one off additional lesson fee but this was also declined.
Poor teaching, poor value for money, and extremely rigid customer service.

Please accept our apologies for the disruption to your child’s band lessons this term. We know how much children value and look forward to their Rocksteady lessons, and how important a consistent learning environment is for their musical progress.
As we recruited a new band leader for your school, two members of our highly trained cover team stepped in to ensure lessons were not affected, but we understand that this change in band leaders can be disruptive for children and are very sorry for this.
As you had requested to cancel your son’s subscription from the end of November, this means that December lessons, including the end of term concert, won’t be covered by payment and therefore unable to be attended.

My SEN son age 5 attended his drumming classes…
My son attended his drumming classes after school hours as they didn’t do year 1 in school time apprently . He has SEN and was in a group of two which was perfect !
The main issue was there was never a regular teacher it kept changing … kids need time to get to know an adult let alone teacher !
So this really let the experience down . They ended up pulling out of our school . It was a shame to start something really and for it to just be left . A lot of money per month too considering !
I ended up stopping the remaining lessons as I knew they would be leaving . So money down the drain . His friend cancelled the DD as we were advised no need to pay for the last month .. and has had numerous calls to chase why there is now no DD?
Lack of communication maybe . But not ideal at all ! Shame . As we have heard great stuff about Rocksteady from other families ! Maybe our village school wasn’t big enough for them!

It’s really important that children have a consistent learning environment, and whilst our highly trained cover teachers step in to ensure lessons can continue when your regular band leader is unavailable, we recognise the impact this can still have on children.
Due to these disruptions, all children at your school had their payments frozen for November and December, giving a free half term of band lessons. We understand that you chose to finish lessons for the remainder of the term and again, are very sorry that your son’s Rocksteady experience hasn't always reflected the positive one we aim to deliver.

14+ months on the waiting list for my son....(apart from he wasn't on it)
My son was placed on the 'waiting list' for Rocksteady fourteen months ago upon starting in reception. When chasing (again) via school as year one began -- after lots of his school pals signed up immediately with no problems -- I was informed that he'd never been placed on the waiting list (even though this was confirmed by school/his teacher and directly by Rocksteady with us, his parents, over a year ago). We'd decided not to sign him up for similar classes elsewhere as we'd been assured he'd be offered a spot ASAP and because he wanted to be in a band with his school pals - and now I have to explain to a devastated 5-year-old why he's the only one not taking part (after wasting a full year waiting). So so so poor. Inept doesn't cover it.

Good for confidence but inconsistent
My son really enjoys the Rocksteady sessions and they’ve definitely helped boost his confidence. The atmosphere is fun and engaging, and when everything runs smoothly, the kids seem to have a great time.
However, it is quite expensive for what you actually get. The teaching tends to focus on just one song per term, so there isn’t a lot of musical progression. On top of that, reliability has been an issue. Last year, six lessons were cancelled along with the end-of-term concert, and this year two lessons have already been cancelled.
Overall, it’s enjoyable for the children when it goes ahead, but the value for money and consistency could be much better.

Please accept our sincere apologies that two lessons this term have not been able to go ahead. We understand that consistency is so important for a child’s musical progress, so will always look to find cover teachers to lead lessons when the usual band leader is unavailable. Unfortunately, this isn’t always possible to arrange, especially at short notice, and we apologise again this has resulted in missed lessons.
Each term, children learn a different song and work through a unique curriculum of up to 300 musical skills that count towards their exam-free music qualification, accredited by Trinity College London. This is a pressure free way to achieve an official qualification in music, simply by playing alongside their bandmates each week and having fun.
You can see your son's progress in your termly Rocksteady Round-ups which provide a visual summary of everything they have been learning in band lessons.

Really expensive and not much roi
Really expensive for what it is.
For a group lesson, we are paying around £26 an hour, and our child has been doing it for a couple of years.
Thing is it is a multi instrument class, so that 30 mins is split between teaching a drummer, a keyboardist, a guitarist and a bassist, plus vocals.
A group of children learning the same instrument for 30 mins would learn more in that time.
2 years and they haven’t learned much and have no chance of earning a grade.

Whenever a band leader is unable to teach, we do everything we can to arrange a cover teacher to minimise disruption and maintain progress. Sadly on this occasion, it hasn’t been possible to provide cover for the remaining lessons this term.
A credit was applied to your November payment to account for this disruption and our Customer Services team have also been in touch to provide further details on the break down of payments for the term.

Not worth the money or time spent
Do not waste your money on this, if your local authority offers music lessons better to go with them. My son has reported only spending 5mins on an instrument per lesson as most of the time the band leader (teacher) takes the instrument and plays it himself. This is a complete waste of money and time. To add insult to injury, they wont even cancel from next month on the basis that direct debit cut off date has passed. I will be taking this up with my bank as i am not paying for a service that is neither being provided nor wanted anymore.

Rocksteady's inclusive approach to music education introduces children to instrument technique and performance skills, while also supporting teamwork, social skills and encouraging new friendships. All Rocksteady children receive the same care and attention from their band leader in lessons, regardless of instrument or ability.
Direct debits are taken on the 20th of each month and, if cancelled after this date, payment will have already been processed for the month. In your account there is a choice of cancelling immediately or setting a cancellation at the end of the month so your child can continue taking part in all of their band lessons that have been paid for. More details can be found on the cancellation page and in our terms and conditions which you will find in your Backstage account.

My Son has had a great experience with…
My Son has had a great experience with Rock steady so far , he loves to sing and this has given him the opportunity to be able to enhance his skills and perform with a group which has certainly boosted his confidence! This is something that he really is enjoying which we feel is important as he does struggle with some things due to his Autism diagnosis, unfortunately he has missed a few sessions as we have been away for a few weeks but he can’t wait to continue in the new term. We are really grateful he has been given this opportunity and look forward to seeing his progression 😊

Really bad experience for this school
Really bad experience for this school, bad organised and waste of money. I registered keyboard lesson for My son, but the band leader mixed up and gave him the Guitar for his first lesson, I informed this issue to customer service to ask for an extra keyboard lesson for make up his first lesson, but they replied my son have another music skills already, so it is unable to do it, but I paid keyboard lesson not guitar lesson, it is ridiculous.
Then my daughter got the keyboard lesson as well, but she didn’t get taken to get keyboard lesson, so she missed one lesson, and this school rejected to give her the extra keyboard lesson. This school is no organised, they have no reasons to make your kids missed the lesson and they don’t notify you until your kids tell you. Whatever what reason, they will not refund or give you extra lessons because they prefer you to stay whole year, then they may refund if the lessons less than 33 lessons.

She used to be a very shy little girl, but all thanks to her Rocksteady teachers, she became very sociable and assertive.
