Emergency M O T required!
Why it happened, I don’t know but at 5.00am on Friday 31/07/26 I used the gov.uk website to check my vehicles MOT and discovered that it ended at midnight on 30/07/26. No MOT service station websites in my area (Barrow in Furness) had any online appointments available however Protyre on Clay Flats, Workington did. I read some of the less than flattering reviews about the place but went ahead and booked the MOT for 8.30am that same morning. Drove up, dropped the car off at 8.20am, staff were pleasant and upbeat, I was expected and that was it. I walked across to Greggs for a coffee, returned to Protyre at 9.05am and minutes later was handed my keys and all was done and dusted. Every member of staff who passed me either spoke or acknowledged me, everyone appeared to have a buzz about them. It was a good experience to such an extent that I felt obliged to nip across to the supermarket and buy a few packets of biscuits for the staff brew time. I appreciate that we all as individuals have different experiences with various companies but my experience of Protyre Autocare was first class.👍

Excellent team
I had all three tyres replaced at Workington Protyres and honestly couldn't fault them.
From the moment I walked in, the manager and the rest of the team were really friendly and helpful. Everything was explained clearly, there was no hassle at all, and they got the job done quicker than I expected.
I've been driving on the tyres for a while now and they've been great. I've had no problems whatsoever and the car feels spot on.
It's nice to find a garage that doesn't make things stressful and just gets the job done properly. I'd definitely recommend Workington Protyres and will be using them again in the future. Thanks to the whole team!

4 tyres inside 3 weeks, good price and fitted quickly
The guys there sorted out a replacement tyre after a sidewall blowout, came back in July to sort the other 3 to match and they applied promotions as I had bought 4 from them inside a month, all done and dusted inside and hour, very happy with the service provided

Always receive a friendly welcome and get honest advice. Good service.
Had booked a 1.30pm appointment on line. When I got to Protyre was told the appointment was 2pm as 1 to 2pm was lunchbreak time. Not pleased as had rushed from work. Online booking needs sorting to reflect this!

I had gone to the wrong branch for my MOT, but the staff were very understanding and said that they could do the test at that branch and they would inform the other branch for me. they were very helpful and i can't thank them enough.

Abysmal service…
At protyre Workington following a MOT I was advised by the manager of 1 major defect of 'Service brake excessively binding, offside rear'. To me this highlights only 1 location with an issue (Offside Rear). I politely asked the manager if Protyre could repair this with a view to passing the MOT, and he replied that yes he could repair the defect to pass the MOT.
I was phoned 3 days later by the same manager to be advised that the repair would cost over £800 due the fact that all 4 break disks and break pads had to be replaced. I went to the Workington centre again and asked for an explanation as to why the fault on the certificate had suddenly changed from 1 location to now 4 locations to pass the MOT, and the manager raising his voice and again saying that all the discs and pads required replacing for the car to pass its MOT. As all this was not highlighted in the refusal of MOT test certificate it was total shock to me and with the large cost he was advising. With this level of abysmal communication by the angry Protyre manager I will never take my car to Protyre Workington again.
