I received several quotes through ProCompare and ultimately chose one of the contractors referred to me through the platform.

I paid approximately R59,500, but received only around R8,000 worth of work. The contractor repeatedly promised that materials and workers would arrive, but kept delaying and ultimately failed to complete the work.

I contacted ProCompare on 29 July 2026 and reported the problem. ProCompare provided me with the contractor information they had on file, including a business name, address, phone number and email address.

I subsequently discovered that the address appeared to be incorrect and that the contractor appeared to be using the registration details of another company. I informed ProCompare about this. ProCompare also confirmed that they did not have an ID for the contractor, only a company registration number.

This raises serious concerns for me about the level of verification performed on contractors before they are referred to customers.

I understand that no platform can guarantee the behaviour of every contractor. However, I would expect a service that connects customers with contractors to perform reasonable checks on their identity and business details.

In my case, this resulted in a financial loss of approximately R51,500 for work not received, as well as considerable time and stress dealing with the situation.

I would strongly recommend that ProCompare review its contractor verification process and clearly explain to customers what checks are performed before contractors are referred.

SKN Projects was one of the contractors suggested and they delivered excellent work. Due to time constraints I did not contact all 3 for quotes, but Procompare was super easy to use and very happy with the service delivered.
