Mixed dealings with Parker’s. The team seem helpful, but when I started a purchase from them I found out from my legal team that they’d advertised a property at freehold when it wasn’t. The sale then fell through.

Fortunately, the purchasing process for the same property has started up again, so we shall see where it leads this time.

But, a little more focus of due diligence and dotting the i’s and crossing the t’s may have saved me a considerable amount of money.

Our experience with Parkers changed dramatically once we gave notice.

Up until that point, they had been fairly good. But from the moment we informed them we were leaving, the service deteriorated sharply. What followed was a pattern of pressure, disruption and a shocking lack of empathy during the most difficult period of our lives.

At the time, my wife was pregnant with a baby diagnosed with Patau Syndrome, a catastrophic genetic condition. In simple terms, it causes severe abnormalities and is very often fatal, with many babies dying before birth or shortly afterwards. Parkers were aware of this extremely serious situation, yet still chose to put pressure on us and create avoidable disruption at the worst possible time.

Despite everything we were dealing with, we were pushed to accommodate a series of checks, including EPC and electrical related inspections, many of which could easily have been postponed until after we moved out, as we had requested. One supposed “urgent repair”, which was not urgent at all, went on for several hours. Contractors from ARK Group effectively forced my then pregnant wife out of the house for the day because the electricity could not be used, and I was asked whether I could take a day off work, even though I work from home. The complete lack of humanity and common sense was staggering.

Parkers also arranged several viewings despite our request to keep disruption to a minimum. On one rainy day, people were allowed to walk through the house with their shoes on, bringing dirt and water inside, and agent Mark Brooker did absolutely nothing about it. Basic respect for someone’s home seemed entirely absent.

Things became even worse after our son died.

Shortly afterwards, Alice Beavis contacted us asking whether the new tenant could come to the property to take measurements. When I said I was not happy with this because our son had just died, her response was a brief apology followed almost immediately by another request for measurements. That exchange summed up the level of empathy we received, almost none.

The final episodes were beyond unacceptable. Last Friday, the shower broke down. Despite Parkers claiming to have a system monitored 24 hours a day, nobody responded. The issue was only picked up on Monday after a call. A plumber then attended merely to inspect the problem and told us that approval would be needed before any repair could be carried out. We explained that our son’s funeral was the following day and begged for help, but nothing happened.

A few days later, I called the contractors directly, Reading Professional Heating Services, and was told, without any sign of regret, that they had many other jobs on and that the matter had simply not been dealt with. In other words, it had been forgotten. I had even tried calling on the day of my son’s funeral and nobody replied.

As if that were not enough, we are also dealing with a boiler making a noise so loud that it is impossible to sleep properly. Yet, as confirmed by Mark Brooker in his email, Parkers would not send anyone unless I first provided a video. That says everything about how they operate. Even when tenants report a serious issue affecting basic day to day living, the default response is not to help but to create another hurdle.

What made all of this even worse was the attitude. Mark Brooker, instead of showing care or even asking whether my wife was physically able or medically advised to use a bath, simply insisted that we should “use the bath” as though that solved everything. It was careless, dismissive and completely inappropriate in the circumstances.

And before Parkers try to dismiss this as theatrics, any anger or distress from me came only after more than a month of pressure, disruption, indifference and a shocking lack of compassion during the worst period of our lives.

This was not just poor service. It was inhumane.

I would never recommend Parkers to anyone.

We recently moved into a rented property in Calcot, Reading, through Parkers Estate Agency in Tilehurst and were extremely disappointed with its condition. The bathrooms were filthy, with grime on the walls and hardened limescale in the toilet. The accessible bathroom was particularly unacceptable, remaining stained despite our cleaning efforts. The garden was neglected, overgrown with weeds, and the provided washer and dryer released dirt and limescale, staining our clothes. Before signed contract, we had requested a professional cleaning and garden maintenance before moving in, Parkers representative accepted but later these requests were ignored. Parkers failed to ensure the property was clean and functional, leading to a frustrating experience for us

We invited Parkers to value our home and had Charlie visit. Right from the off we were very impressed with his professionalism and local knowledge. Straight away we knew he was the person for the job. We had planned to invite other agents to value our home but decided not to as we felt very comfortable with Parkers and were confident that Charlie had all of the bases covered.

Parkers marketing was second to none. We had exceptional 4K photos & Virtual tour, along with drone photography which made us stand out from our competition. Charlie even took time out of his evenings one Saturday, had beer with us and did dusk photography of the house which looked amazing. He would then rotate the photos online every week keeping the advert refreshed. Everything he mentioned during the valuation he followed through with.

Parkers set up a Whastapp group chat with us and the sales team, we found this was an excellent way to communicate booking in viewings, quick communication and would even give us instant feedback and when we could come home, which was great working around the kids and work.

Emma nurtured the sale from start to finish, she did an amazing job keeping us in the loop throughout the transaction and managing the chain. Herself and Charlie were always there when we needed them which made it all seamless and as stress free as possible.

If you’re looking to sell your home anytime soon, we would highly recommend Parkers and we will be definitely be using them in the future.

I rented a property through this agency out of urgency, as I really needed a place at the time. Unfortunately, the flat I ended up with was in poor condition, the shower head was literally held together with tape, and part of the kitchen flooring had come off. I had to buy glue and fix it myself. I also had to take on the task of reconciling the utility bills, which should have been handled by the agency.
They promised to resolve all the issues, but nothing was ever fixed. At one point, I was even pressured with the comment, “Do you want to leave?” an unhelpful and dismissive response to legitimate concerns. When the toilet extractor fan broke, I replaced it myself, and they never reimbursed me. Due to work commitments, I didn’t have the time or energy to constantly follow up or find a new place, so I endured the situation.
To make matters worse, at the end of my tenancy, they had the audacity to try to claim my entire deposit. It’s genuinely outrageous and unjust.
Based on my experience, I would never recommend this agency. As for all the glowing reviews, they're hard to believe. I wouldn't be surprised if some of them were paid or fake.

Parkers Tilehurst delivers mixed results. While some services are well-organized, others lack urgency, especially in property management support. Communication can vary depending on the situation, leaving improvements necessary. It’s not the worst experience but not entirely seamless either. A solid agency with noticeable inconsistencies that may affect overall satisfaction. Things could be better organized.

Excellent/regular updates and customer service, friendly staff - got the job done in a professional way

It is over 40 years since we bought our house and recently took the big step of putting it on the market . We sold it through Parker’s Tilehurst and cannot recommend them highly enough . They manage to achieve just the right balance between professionalism and friendliness . Communication throughout was proactive and helpful in keeping us up to date . We felt well supported through every stage of our sale and purchase and always felt able to ask for advice . The team were totally focused on delivering an outstanding service to us as their clients .

Throughout the whole process, Parkers have been brilliant. There is no denying that moving house is a stressful process, but I was always able to reach Parkers and never felt rushed or fobbed off. Charlie was my first point of contact and he had a strong plan from the beginning. Imani is gorgeous and smiley and was so easy to have in the house doing viewings. Once we sold, Chanelle was great at keeping me updated and liaising with everyone to keep things running smoothly. I always felt I could call her & ask anything.
