When booking a specific time slot, don't expect it to happen. Over 2 hours to fit two new tyre's ???
Unprofessional staff and management. Halfords should be ashamed of this part of their business. Poor service.

What a total disgrace! Booked in for tyre repair at the York, layerthorpe, national tyres centre on 31/12/25 at 11 am (booked the previous week). I went to reception to check in at allocated time only to be told to sit in customer area. They then proceeded to serve the next 2 men who came in after me. I then had to queue at reception again to once again book in. Left my keys and informed it would probably take an hr but they would call me. Arrived back at the garage 2 hrs 20 mins after my booked slot to be informed they had not had time to do it?? No apologies/nothing. I think they just expected me to leave. When I questioned them further I was told I could ring at the weekend to see if they could ‘fit me in’. I did say ‘Well if you cannot do it when you pre book a time then it’s highly unlikely that you can accommodate me on the same day’. I’m sure the guys before me had their cars done and one of them never had a booked time slot! Clearly your mates take priority! As a female it’s a shame that misogyny and sexism still exists today. I’m sure if my dad had taken my car then it would’ve been fixed. I am not normally one to complain but I could not believe their behaviour. A complaint has gone to head office who funnily enough have not responded. The garage then sent an email saying they were sorry my booking was cancelled but if I would like to rebook then just call them! Unbelievable or was that them just covering their tracks. I think they need some staff training on sexism and inclusion! Avoid at all costs if you are female

Very disappointed with the price I was charged. I initially went in for a slow puncture repair, but was told it couldn’t be repaired and I needed a new tyre. I ended up being charged £200 for a Continental EcoContact. The fitting only took about 20 minutes, and their customer service team later confirmed the tyre itself costs less than £90. I also found the same tyre, including fitting, at Kwik Fit for just £134. Based on this, I don’t believe £200 is a fair price.

Dear National Tyres

I write to express my disappointment over the service I received this morning at the Layerthorpe branch in York.

To outline the reason for my visit, I had prior purchased online x2 tyres as well as a tyre puncture repair and booked and paid for the time slot of 08:30 hrs for the tyres.
I explained to the branch manager that I would like them to undertake the puncture repair as the first job for the reason that if this tyre was not repairable then I would have that and the front nearside tyre replaced. If however the puncture was repairable then both the front tyres could be replaced. I was asked to leave the car for an hour and a half of which I feel was reasonable as highlighted above, I had paid for a time slot. I returned after this time to visually see my car with both front wheels in the process of being replaced. I then returned some 20 mins later to be informed that the puncture was not repairable so I would need another tyre! I then had to re-explain my initial instruction asking to repair the puncture first and as the fitter had not undertaken the repair in this method it meant they then had to salvage the now removed part worn front tyre and refit it, hence a load of wasted time all round. I was then asked to take a seat in the waiting room while they did this, In between, other customers were being served and I seemed to be put to the bottom of the list, after 2 &1/4 hours since arriving, my car was finally ready.
I intend to salvage the upfront puncture repair cost through my credit card provider as the manager was less than helpful when prompted on this matter.

The time taken by the branch to undertake a simple fitting of two new tyres does not warrant 2 & 1/4 hours.
I bought premium tyres at a premium price and received poor service.
One other point to raise is that the customer waiting area at this branch is literally like sitting in a public toilet!! certainly not a premium service.

Oh and to add National tyres have a complex customer complaint process or in other words they do not wish to know of their failings so my advice to anyone who is thinking of using them............... ........GO ELSEWHERE!!

Spoke to Greg the night before he asked me to pop my car in to be looked at so nice on the phone and happy to help.
On taking my car in the following morning I was greeted by Adam who wasn’t aware of my previous conversation but was happy to have a look for me, service was great and completely trust these guys with my car I have used them for my mot last few years and find them so reliable, honest and good at their job

I have had my car in at National Tyres York twice now. The service is great and also quick. The team are friendly, put me at ease and they went above and beyond to help with the issues I was having. I'll absolutely continue to be a loyal customer in the future. I'm extremely grateful for the high level of customer service and expert advice and wouldn't take my new car anywhere else! Big thank you!!

Had four premium tyres fitted. Couldn’t find the alloy wheels key. No problem they searched through a box of spares and found one that fitted. Brilliant service, good price and most efficient. Would highly recommend.

Went online popped in my reg it found what tyres I needed. Originally booked for Monday but needed the car for Saturday. They guys changed my appointment and fitted me in earlier. I had one puncture they confirmed this. And one wearing tyre.
My wheel bolts were damaged from a previous garage and Adam ordered them while my car was there and they had them delivered within an hour and on my car and I picked it up before my work shift started. Great set of lads no messing about straight on the job. I was happy they didn't let me drive away with damaged wheel nuts like the previous garage did. So Thankyou again

What a complete utter joke this place is. My son in law took his car for 4 wheel tracking. They snapped the head of the camber nut off because they couldn't be bothered to get blowtorch on it and then basically told him it would cost him £600 for them to fix it. I went down and stood there for 10 minutes as there was no staff behind counter. Eventually I got annoyed stood there so we drove his car back to my house very slowly and arranged to get a mobile mechanic to come monday and drill the bolt out. Avoid this place like the plague. They are now owned by Hellfrauds whe are only after your money.

I made my booking online and they immediately took my car when I arrived. Hardly any waiting time. Staff is friendly and helpful Did my MOT in no time.

I ordered a set of 4 autogreen 215/70/15 tyres online on wed 3rd April 2024 and paid in full and booked fitting at the York branch on 8th april some 20 miles away, for some reason the website would not allow me to book at our local branch only 2 miles away. I turned up at York at the arranged time 10 30. And handed my downloaded receipt to reception man who said I will go check if we have the tyres? "A bit strange I thought as I had pre ordered 5 bays earlier" he comes back with yes we have the tyres were do you want them fitting front or back? . Both I said I paid for 4 tyres .he rechecked my receipt and "oh I will just go and check stock again" he comes back we only have 3 in stock he then starts hacking away at his computer "it won't let me order another tyre he says" straching his head . Then goes away to check stock again and comes back we have 1 other tyre that size but it's a different make we can fit 3 of one make and one different one .is that all you can do I ask "yes" was the answer .I ordered and payed for 4 same tyres not a Mish mash I said so can I have a refund "I can cancel the order stating lack of stock and you will be refunded in about 7 days. So now I find myself out of pocket for days whist having to pay out again to another tyre company who can fulfill a contract. Also just to rub salt into the wound national tyres sent an email asking me rebook my missed appoinment. Really !!

booked in for mot....was rung to say there was a bulge in one of my tyres so they had to fail my mot....i know for a fact there was no bulge in any of my tyres before i handed my car over to these cowboys.
never will i use these cowboys again.

The biggest joke of a mot and tyre centre I’ve ever come across!!
Customer service is non existent!!
And they managed to flatten the car battery!! Prices are extortionate!!! They don’t put covers on your seats before climbing in in their overalls!! An all together awful experience! Never ever will I use this place!! Halfords is a total joke

Quick and easy to book plus good prices online. Would have been 5 stars, but there's a question mark over the appointments. I've been told they're fully booked on the date I've reserved online. A bit of a nuisance as I live 30 miles away and need a reliability. Told they'll call me on the day.

Had two tyres fitted today , only noticed when I got home they are
Rotational and one had been fitted the wrong way around .
Called the branch to see if I could go back in to get it sorted today and they told me they were too busy and I would have to go back tomorrow. Pretty poor service considering it was their mistake in the first place.

Needed 4 new tyres for my old Zafira to get through MOT. Got a great deal on 4 Goodyear tyres with National tyres, they also did a 5 point check included plus front alignment at half price compared to other garages. Very pleased with the fitting. Would use again.

Good selection of tyres site easy to navigate, had the tyre fitted today ,prompt fitting manager was very helpful with some queries I had , which was really appreciated
