When I first enrolled in the debt relief program, I was relieved thinking there was a light at the end of the tunnel. I was initially told my debt would be settled in 2-3 years. I am going on year 4. Though many debts were settled, I have spent more fees than settling my debt and my largest one still remains. Yes, my debt is my fault, but I don’t recommend this company. I am no better off than I was 4 years ago. I wish that I would have figured out settling my debt a different way.

My husband and I would like to share our horrible experience.

Started with monarch legal group in 2019. Have been paying into their program for 5 years come March of 2024.(almost $1500.00 a month) 

Since then we've been served numerous summons by the Courts.

We've sent monarch legal our paperwork every single time somebody's contacted us and uploaded into their so-called portal for them to review. 

When we've called to follow-up because we're concerned about court dates making sure somebody's their representing us, they say the litigation department's handling it. And not to worry about it you will be notified when there is a change.

Well the change was no one was representing us as like we were made to believe.

Missed court dates by monarch legal has put us in a position that they have started wage deduction on our paycheck. And
this creditor has been in litigation with monarch for a year and they finally come to agreed price, but I have to deposit more  money($ 7200.00) in to an account that I already pay $1494.61 to monthly. So they can make a lump sum Payment. So we do and Come to find out they did not use that money for this creditor like they said it was for. Instead they paid less urgent accounts first and now we ask them for help since they didn't provide the service they promised but took over 18000 as payment the first year  before monarch even started helping there customer, namely us. 

Every time we call them we are told we should have a phone call back within 72 hours. This phone call never comes and each time we follow up with another phone call we're told no one's available and we should get a phone call back within 72 hours.

It's a vicious circle and now we're paying the price with wage garnishment on top of the monthly payment to monarch

They took a lot of your money by charging 80% of payment as fees but didn't provide the service, very very bad, and put you in a worse situations, no good settlement but sent you to court to deal with debt collectors. With over twenty grand of fees in two years but resulting creditor contact employer. I have to take a big losses by ending their services without any refund. My experience with them were from end 2019 to early 2022

After paying over $500/mo for 3 and a half years of a 48 month contract, they throw me under the bus with this law firm of bloodsuckers, and want to stick me with another 18 months. These people are sociopaths, and I wouldn't be surprised if they have something going with this bloodsucking law firm, which found out my employer, my annual salary, and is using it against me to squeeze every last drop of my blood. They are taking peoples' money and doing nothing that you couldn't have done yourself. So now they think it's perfectly fine for me to pay $700 over what I enrolled with. They're scum and they should be put out of business.

Monarch Legal is unfortunately, a poorly run business that appears to be criminal in its handling of the client's money. I paid them $8100 in fees to settle debts and they failed to adequately represent me with legal counsel. As a result, my financial situation is worse than when I enrolled in their program three years ago. What's worse is that they refuse to give me a breakdown of how the fees were applied and offered me an insulting figure for a refund. I asked for a fair deal when exiting the program and since then have been on the phone with them every day to try to resolve the matter. Monarch violated the contract I signed in so many ways it cannot even be explained in a short review. I repeatedly asked to speak to a manager but was told managers do not talk on the phone and that I have no recourse to recover my money. Before considering Monarch, I strongly recommend reading all of the complaints and legal action against this company. I wish I would have seen that prior to committing. My advice is to hire your own attorney because you have way more control and it will be much cheaper than the ridiculous fees they claim are necessary.

Do your homework before you engage in Monarch Legal Group assistance. In an effort to relieve a piling amount of credit debit, I engaged in Monarch Legal Groups service at the end of 2019. Communication was good in 2020, 2021 not too bad but the last 5.5 months I did a majority of the communicating. I enrolled 16 accounts, withdrew 3 this year due to multiple requests for follow up to settle and Monarch kept pushing them for this reason or another and to find out two of the agencies that Monarch had settlements in place with, Monarch was not returning their calls regarding past due payments based on the agreements. In my opinion, Monarch sets themselves up nicely. Retainer Fees paid over the course of 9months, Services costs over the cost of 22months yet your projected settlement is over the course of 48months. I requested a refund on the service cost as my total amount of enrolled debit was reduced with the withdrawal of 3 accounts but was told I would have needed to do that within the 22 months. I did not see that in writing and was not even aware of that and if Monarch would have proceeded with my request to settle accounts in January of 2022 as I was prepared to make lump sum payments I wouldn't have asked for a refund. So my expectation of receiving a refund of about $1,800.00 doesn't exist because I'm out of the 22 month window. For the time I spent keeping the train on the track to settle my matters as quickly as possible these 5.5 months, I don't feel that refund an out of line request. I contacted Monarch to discuss Graduation out of the program, they don't tell you that process just that they payment department would settle your account. No call, no follow up, no window to ask questions that is when I was transferred to a Supervisor who told me about the 22 month window and the payment department would close out my account. I had to request that my June payment be stopped, kind of assumed it would have since I nothing to pay but the Supervisor said they would have to record that request. We both stated there would be no 19.95 charged but a week later I spoke to an agent who said that no recording was necessary due to the Graduation out of the program and yes I was charged $19.95 as it was noted as a skip payment request. I would have thought a Supervisor of all people would know the Graduation process. I have spoken to 3 people regarding the Graduation process and it seems nothing has been done and the agent today stated everything that is suppose to happen. Time will tell. This year alone I had a clerical error set up an unauthorized amount for draft. A considerable amount of money nothing RAM could do to stop and Monarch said, oh we'll refund that as soon as it clears. Luckily my bank was helpful and did not charge me an NSF fee and moved funds so I would not be broke. Monarch was not able to withdraw the funds the 1st time and tried a 2nd time after telling me it would only attempt to withdraw once. I still have an NSF notice posted on my portal which I asked to be removed countless times. I had one account go to Litigation and was advised you can get a responsive attorney or not. My assigned attorney was pleasant but due to the stress of an acct going to litigation I was doing a lot of follow up via email to ensure he was on top of it and not getting to something last minute. Between the stress, lack of communication, no follow up, no one working on my requests to get settlement numbers, I felt like I was working for myself to get my matters resolved, with little to no support from the Monarch Team. In hindsight, I should have had more faith in my creditors to work with my situation. The past 6 months have been a nightmare dealing with Monarch and I wish that no-one regardless how dire your situation may be have to deal with their lack of support and communication. We are seeking assistance that is the service we are paying for. I clearly overpaid for a lot of stress. Seek alternate solutions and if this is a last resort keep on them weekly for status on your account and keep and eye on your RAM statement.
*Update: Monarch Legal Group - thank you for reaching out. I spoke to an Agent today as I found out my RAM Account balance was ZERO and funds were transferred to Monarch as a "Program Related Payment" which I was then also charge $10.95. That transpired on 6/13 and my RAM account was closed on 6/14. Here it is 6/17 and no communication from Monarch regarding any payment reconciliation. I addressed this today along with my expectation regarding a refund. I was advised a Supervisor would be calling me back on Wednesday 6/22. I have no intention of posting the personal information you request here and will see if a Supervisor calls me back on 6/22 to discuss my refund of funds.

When you realize this is a scam and stop your enrollment, monarch does nothing with the accounts. They continue to stay on as reps even though I requested clarification during the cancellation call about a transition letter. I received a notification of garnishment on an account that Monarch failed to send the letter of cancellation to. The exact letter that was sent to me as a “copy of what would be going to debt holders.
Run away quickly!

This company is a scam!! They lie and don’t do anything but take your money. I was told 4 to 6 months they would try and make my first settlement. I called when I hadn’t heard anything and all I got was excuses. They would always say you have to get money built up in your account but they was taking all my money so how could you ever get it built up. I had to borrow money to get out of the mess they got me into. All they did for me was cause me more stress and health problems. Something needs to be done with them so they can’t steal money from someone else.

I have no problem putting a daily poor review on here until maybe this place closes their doors instead of screwing people over. This company is considered more thieves than our damn government. They are too scared to call you back when they say they are going to. I’m glad some people got their refund like they say they did but for me this company said go screw yourself without actually saying it those particular words.

What a scam. Was told they will settle debts and overall saving nearly 40% by settling and now I am told I am going to have to extend my original contract to give more money which now will be more than what my total debt was. How can this be? What a joke!!! They better refund me and I’ll settle things myself. If not I’ll be in contact with the BBB. Justin Brogdon

Run as fast as you can from this company. I paid Monarch more than $28,000 over 2 years. They settled 4 of my debts but only 2 for less than what was owed (one of their major claims). I ended up having to file bankruptcy to avoid judgement from one of my creditors who had sued me. Monarch told me I would have to pay an additional $900 per month to cover the settlement offer. This is due to their front loading fees to themselves for work they don't perform and it is in violation of the Debt Settlement Consumer Protection Act. According to my records and what is allowed by law, they owe me a refund of $14,735. I sent them a letter via certified mail detailing my request for refund which they have ignored. I have filed complaints with BBB, IL State Attorney General, FTC, Cook County State Attorney and the National Consumer League. I am not backing down until I get my money refunded.

EDITED 3/26 - after filing this review and others, Monarch did reach out to me and we were able to come to a resolution which included a refund of the fees in question.

Terrible company. My husband got a wage garnishment. they told me once it goes to court, they will want a bigger sum of money...their fees are outrageous for the work they perform. the attorney they assigned-his voice mail is always full. he never returns phone calls or emails. 2 months have gone by, and they just keep saying well we will expedite this too him and his boss. omg lol. does this guy even exist? I could have worked with the credit card places myself and done better!! I'm giving them 2 business deals to do the wage garnishment negotiation and then if nothing happens, I'm pulling out of the joke scam!!

I love the canned response from the Client Experience Team to each and every persons complaints. You will not hear from the Client Experience Team. You will only get an email (maybe) asking you to call them. Each and every time you call you will speak with a different Client Experience Team Member who will not be able to help you. Good Luck.

This company is committing fraud. I have 2 accounts in litigation and was just notified that 1 will begin garnishing my wages on 12/2. This is after I was repeatedly told by Monarch that I didn't need to worry about litigation, they were working with the account. I even spoke to attorney Don T. on 10/29 about an 11/1 hearing date and he assured me that he would attend the hearing and the my wages would not be garnished. Well, he apparently never showed up and now my wages are about to get garnished. I couldn't get a call back from my attorney Don Teri so I called Monarch offices and was told I was now assigned to attorney Kenneth B. but he won't return my calls either. I have made it clear that I am ready to pay my debt in full, I just need to set up a payment plan but they won't do anything and keep lying to me about having an attorney. Complete fraud and criminal organization.

STAY AWAY BEWARE THEY DO NOTHING AND AFTER YOU CANCEL CALL THE PROCESSOR IT THE ONLY WAY TO STOP THE PAYMENT FROM COMING OUT ! CANCELED AND THEY STILL TOOK OUT 2 PAYMENTS ! 18 MONTHS AND 20K IN PAYMENTS AND ONLY 1 OF THE 4 CREDITORS THEY DID ANYTHING WITH ! CRAZY I CONTACTED THE ATTORNEY GENERAL AND BBB AND WILL WRITE MANY REVIEWS TO SAVE PEOPLE FROM THIS COMPANY

Please be aware they are only here to take your money. I paid them $9000 and they didn’t do anything for me and I was getting sued. I cancel the service and they would only refund me small portion of it back. Do not fall for this scam like I did!!! Save your money and work with your credit yourself!!! I have contacted the BBB about them!! Hope I can get more of the money back!

This company is fraud. They take money from you and do nothing to help you. They told me to stop paying my creditors and put me behind on everything. My credit has tanked and they haven't done anything. When I call for answers they won't pick up the phone but they'll email you and ask you what you want....... I canceled and they have promised me a refund for almost a month now and I've seen nothing. I call every single day and get the same bs answers..... "their working on it" "there is a glitch is the system" DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. They need to be put out of business.

This company provided terrible advice, Takes your money does not provide a service. When you cancel your account they claim the money you put in to pay off your debt will be returned, however this does not happen. I have been done for over a month and have not seen this. They have stolen over $7000 as they failed to provide the agreed upon service.

DO NOT signed an agreement with this place and it's a rip off and they do not deserve to be in business. They say they appoint you a lawyer that is supposed to be your power of attorney, but never returns your emails or calls nor did I speak with them 1 time in the 11 months I was with them. I call customer service in the rare moments that I have 30+ min just to sit on hold since the 5 times I have tried the call me back option surprise never game me a call back. Once you speak with someone they usually give you the run around and never actually answer your questions. I enrolled about 50k in debt with them and was paying $778 a month after 10 months they provided me 1 offer letter that was ultimately rejected. I had to call to find out there was an offer sent into Monarch only to have no one call me, or email me they said “Sorry this slipped through the cracks”. The letter was rejected due to timing since I found out about 40days after. 5 months later still nothing had happened. I then received a summons to be sued by the company they let “Slip through the cracks”. I began asking to speak with the lawyer I am supposedly paying for over many calls and emails. I still have yet to hear from them. This company tells you to stop paying these creditors but offer you no support. They take your money, do actually negotiate anything for you, they also never show you anything on the portal with how much you have in your account. They leave you get sued and still take your money never lifting a finger. I had to file CH13 because of this company putting me in such a bad position violating every part of the agreement you sign. Please do not go with this company because you feel backed into a corner like I was. I would have been better off fighting the creditors myself. The last part Monarch took my $7,789 and never gave a dime back. CH13 at least in IL costs half that to apply. What they do with this money is beyond me and they need to banned from operating.

Currently as i am writing this review i have been on the phone with them again for over 50min to get my money back that was left in the account with 0 progress.
