I decided to sell what I thought was a glass trinket box. I contacted Mctears and sent pictures. Stewart Aitkinson
Came to my house told me it was French Agate and probably 19th century It sold at a really good price just over the estimate. Stewart made the whole process very easy explaining what would happen and completing the paperwork. I would recommend selling through Mctears particularly as I had previously taken the item to a car boot Sale and was prepared to sell it for £10

This was my first experience at an Auction. I had reservations selling as it was jewellery from a loved one. McTears was the best option. I was impressed by the decor and the quiet efficiency of the staff. Everyone was polite and professional. Having a complimentary coffee was a nice touch. I was given an immediate preliminary valuation followed by e-mail . Overall I felt my items would be safe & sold to someone who really wants them. I would have no hesitation to recommend this company.

A regular auction attender and for the first time, I requested McTear's to undertake two phone bids (Past & Present today) on my behalf. First one went most satisfactorily but unfortunately the second one was completely missed failing to contact me before the Lot came up. A first time phone bidder and not impressed. Disappointed in missing out on such a good Lot..

l have bean at other actions before but thay ar just flea pits to mctears mctears is so clean and tidy and the staf were great

Recently sold two items with McTears. One was valued at around £200, the other around £500. After the auction, they emailed to say they sold "both together" for £360. On the receipt they sent, they said the estimated sell price was "£200-£300" - absolutely not what they told me initially. I suspect they have added this to make the sale look good. After their commission, pick up charge and VAT, I made under £200. Please sell privately.

McTear's Auction provided a very professional and courteous service. The valuation and drop-off process was easy and efficient. All of McTear's staff have been very friendly and helpful.

This was my first involvement with an auction house and one that will haunt me for a long time!!!!!!
Don't get me wrong this was all my own fault as I failed to look into what an auction entails and for that I feel extremely foolish. I did not think that the sale price I had envisaged would turn out to be miles away from what the lot actually achieved and to say I was shocked is to put it mildly.
My only gripe with Mctears is that I received no advice when I stated that I did want to sell the items and did not wish to be burdened with a no sale resulting in the goods being returned to myself.
I would have appreciated some advice on what that could result in and it would have been sensible for me to think of a reserve but that advice was not forthcoming and in hindsight I would certainly have considered a reserve had it been given.
I would have thought that Mctears would have had a rough idea of the worth of these items and I do not believe it would have been £20.00 but as I have stated previously the fault lies entirely with myself and my naivety of auctions.
I have to admit that I have been intrigued by my experience and I am curious of the buying side of auctions but rest assured that I will be prepared for any eventualities this time

I have never placed an item in an auction sale ever, so I was quite a bit nervous about the experience. However, McTear’s have been kind understanding extremely professional and efficient. The experience has been painless, and I made money. What is not to love? Highly recommended.

Great service and great communication

My first time there. The staff were very welcoming and helpful. Registration was a breeze and paying for lots won, was quick, simple and easy.
The cafe was comfortable and friendly.

I contacted McTear's by phone and the lady knew exactly whom I should speak to/email. I did so and Mr. Roderick Shale got back to me immediately.
I did as instructed and sent photographs of the 29 or so items I wanted to sell.
within 24 hours, I received an email estimate of value with an understandable explanation and how I could enter my items to future auctions.
I completed the online account set up (which was easy), arranged a drop off appointment and delivered the items for auction.
The staff and valuer were all very helpful, pleasant and made the process easy.
I appreciate what items sell for is completely dependent upon market conditions. However, I am completely at ease and trust McTears.
I have no hesitation in referring them and using them in future.
