Absolute joke of a hospital. Charging someone €100 for a simple blood pressure, pulse check and questionnaire is a joke while there are literal junkies sleeping in the back of the waiting area, and I... Se mere

Spinal surgery patient
Went in for spinal surgery in may, was left sitting in a chair for over 6 hours in theatre gown in a public area waiting to go to theatre, was in alot of pain by the time in was called. To top it off the toilet I had to use had no seat on it.
Was not an hour out of theatre and still groggy and the nurse was pulling me out of bed to walk to the toilet, my doctor came in and ordered them put me straight back down immediately. I could stay conscious let alone stand or use the loo.
Requested an extra pillow for my back, no can't have one. I requested a sick bowl as nauseous after anaesthetic, I was given one for 5 minutes then removed, I asked for it back and the nurse never returned, at which point I got sick everywhere, luckily the lovely porter was wheeling a trolley past and assisted me and helped clean me up.
Ward was dirty, was given socks to wear as they didn't like you to wear your own slippers in case of a fall. I was in for a week and my socks were black from the dirty floor, only given 1 pair. Saw cleaners once who were in and out in less than 5 minutes. Toilet and shower were filthy the whole weekend. Public hospitals much cleaner.
Nurses disappeared from 8pm, no checks until the next morning at 7am, my nurse gave me my 2 doses of pain tablets and told me to wake myself up at midnight and 4am to take them. God forbid anything happen during the night as no one was checking.
No natural light or airflow in the ward, so hot you actually felt sick, they had a fan in the corner that was filthy with dust.
The only thing I give credit for is my excellent spinal surgeon, it's a pity he only works out of here as I would definitely go elsewhere.
Told not to lift anything heavier than a jug of water, yet the discharge nurse was more than happy to let me walk out carrying my hospital bag.
Shocked at the standards given its a private hospital. Quick enough to want payment, I had to pay my insurance excess 2 days before my surgery, interesting how this is the 1 area they are very efficient on. Everytime I spoke to someone it was oh that's an extra charge, had I known I'd be sitting in a chair so long I'd be telling my insurer not to pay the bed charges.
My Beautiful Wife is Dead!
What can I say. They killed my darling beautiful wife. Negligent? Can't say. Too much of the wrong drugs? Disgraceful lack of care? Heart down to 25% and they sent her home. I think she should have been kept in hospital on a heart monitor. 25% efficiency is so close to death. I came home to find she had slipped away. I now know the meaning of hell. Absolutely should not have happened. Mater Private should hang their collective heads in shame at what they allowed to happen. She is gone and my life is shattered. I could say so much more.
NEVER EVER GET HOSPITALISED HERE - SAVE YOURSELF
0 STARS
I was referred to be hospitalised to A&E to treat my condition.
I desperately needed IVs of fluids and steroids which was the reason I was referred to.
Fast-forward, got admitted and was left for hours without any care in a windowless cubicle, near hospital waste, no air circulation.
Despite the repeated request to at least be given fluids I was ignored for hours to the point of almost passing out.
I was also informed that they didn't had medication I needed available and asked if I had with me. This was around midnight so I had no options to fix this. And I was told like a missing item from a restaurant menu.
I was in such pain and the nurse in charge was dismissing my numerous, polite requests of help.
I was left 2 hours with empty IV attache with blood start flooding back into the IV sack. Despite using the button to request assistant I was ignored or my door being shot for 2 hours.
I had to leave in the middle of the night because I literally feared for my health in order to be admitted somewhere else.
Please save yourself and ALWAYS be a sponsor of your own health first.
These people don't care so fight for it and your taxes.
Absolutely shameful.
Absolutely shameful.
I phoned them from the mater an and e as the mater an and e said you have private health care so you would be quicker going through their cardiac system.
All they were interested in was if I could pay and then said we are under construction and if you are that unwell keep waiting in the mater.
Absolutely no point in contacting them the Lovley team in the mater hospital had thought I would get seen to quicker as I was in a boot with a broken foot and I had a broken wrist.
I will never waste my time ringing again got a taxi home after 11 hours waiting in a and e.
Mater closed for business ???
Mater closed for business ? Maybe they should be due to the pitiful basic standards they are working to . Despite my doctor sending a referral letter over 6 weeks ago for a scan , only on phoning to follow up, 6 weeks later I discover there has been a transfer of services between Alliance back to the Mater & my referral letter has been “ lost in cyber space” between the two. To add insult to injury they actually expected me to contact Alliance to sort their administrative mess out!!
They should be taken off the list of medical providers if they no longer can offer basic services. This is now my second bad habit experience as on my prior on requesting an appointment by my doctor they informed the consultants list is “ closed”
Zero stars
Zero stars. The emergency department refused to see me despite referral letter addressed to them and insurance, stating they did not have 'capacity' to take my case, without eximining me.. Refusing to provide care in an emergency room is wrong from all ethical aspects. Sent notification to their quality department, without response or acknowledgment receipt.. Probably too much to expect from a hospital refusing ER care
Very unsatisfactory experience.
Delayed for over 2.30 hours. Attending oncology day ward. Toilets filthy. Basic house keeping very poor. Swabs, debris on floor not attended to dusting a four hour stint there today.Bloods came up missing the MOST important element of concern. No PSA for a prostrate patient???? Facilities substandard compared to nearby private oncology units. Basic chairs - Bit like paying for business class but down the back in economy!Staff lovely but under stress. Way over booked and unable to cope. Basic information missing and had to inform staff what treatments were appropriate.
Chemo “buddy” many who are elderly have only a stool to sit on for several hours - consultants need to attend the facility to see for themselves the substandard facility. Bet they wouldn’t be happy to sit on a three legged stool in their consultation room!
Obviously everyone feeling poorly and vulnerable but about time someone investigates this situation! Health insurances paying a lot of money ! A disgrace. !
Waited for more than a week for a reply to an email to consultant and many basic questions remain unanswered.
Would be happy to discuss any of above observations but doubt there is anyone who is interested.
Disappointing to say the least!
LONG DELAYS As I write this review I am sitting in…
As I write this review I am sitting in the waiting room of the Cardiac Care Unit in the Mater Private for the last 5 hours and still there are a number of people ahead of me. I have asked at reception a couple of times 'can you tell me where I am in the queue', I am told there are 'a few ahead' of me. That was 3 o clock. It is now 5.15 and 20 minutes ago, when I asked again I was told there were 4 ahead of me. This was after the guy had difficulty finding my file. My ECG and bloods were taken at 1.30pm. Why the long delay in simply letting me know of the blood test results? I have missed a whole day's work and I am frustrated by the delays and the lack of communication from those in the reception area. It is now 6pm and still nothing has happened. I paid a minimum €295 today. Is this what is meant by private healthcare?
Staff at the Mater Outpatient Clinic…
Staff at the Mater Outpatient Clinic are unfortunately disloyal. I recently had my gold chain stolen by a staff member during an assessment in stress test room . The management turned a blind eye to the situation when raised. The team in turn were overall very disrespectful my experience was horrendous as I was stripped of my valuables with no resolution investigation or remorse.
Impossible to get through on the phone
I've spent over an hour trying to get through to Cardiac Care Team. The number on my loop monitor eventually gets me through to scheduling, they pass me over to the Cardiac Team. Tried this 3 times, phone rang out each time. I tried again and the person in scheduling (again) informed me that "nobody ever answers that phone (surprise, surprise)" They said they would put me through to vascular next door. That line went to answer machine, and despite leaving a message, nobody has called me back. The system is a disgrace and not what I expect from a private hospital.

I wood not even send my dog there all…
I wood not even send my dog there all they want is your money and kick you out so they can get the next money bag in and it funny how you go back and all they want to do is send you home and take a pill 💊 and there no bed side care any more just make me sick I said to my partner I better pick up a will kit and fill it in as they are only sending her home to die
beware of getting an infection due to surgery…
my story is quite a saga which saw me missing most of the summer. i was suffering with sciatic derve inteference and went to mater private. the surgeon there recommended a spine decompression which was to take a bit of bone off the spine. despite my reservations i agreed to surgery.
i woke up after the surgery (apparently) but 45 mins later i was in a coma which lasted for 5 hours. at one stage i thought that i was actually dead.
anyway, i did recover, but for the next six weeks, i suffered from continuous heavy discharge from the wound. going back and forth to the surgeon , he put in extra stitches and said "no infection". but then after serious discharge, i returned to the surgeon and he booked me immediately to the mater general where he is a consultant.
there they diagnosed that i had a serious staph a infection. i had to undergo a "washout" to remove the infection. not a pleasant experience ! so that created a long hospital stay followed by home intravenous antibiotics by my health insurer's home care.
so basically i was out of action for over 3 months due to being infected during my operation.
the worst part of all this was the surgeon not accepting that i had an infection.
oh, and as regards me going into a coma. no reason was given for this despite me asking the mater private.
so would i recommend the mater private? no way !
Mater Private Health Check 😒
It was the first time to use The Mater Private for a healthcheck. I usually go to The Beacon Clinic but sadly they were booked up. Now, I know why!!
My previous experiences in The Beacon Clinic have been effortless and the attention to detail during the medical check up was excellent.
Unfortunately, I cannot say the same for The Mater Private, Cherrywood. Results were promised within 10 working days. I telephoned at the end of last week and was promised a response but none came. Today is the fourteenth working day and nothing has been received. I finally emailed an hour ago and got an apology for the delay. It shouldn't have taken an email from me to get a response from them!
I wish I'd been able to book an appointment with The Beacon Hospital instead.
Outstanding Service
There was some mixup with an appointment for a Cardioversion. After several phone calls the issue was sorted by Lorraine Emmett who just took personal responsibility and went to alot of trouble to arrange an appointment at an appropriate time
Thank you so much
The worst patient experience possible…
I recently went here for a scan recommended by my GP. Needed it done urgently. The people who take payments from patients sit right inside the door of the hospital so the first action is to pay. My insurance was charged €500 for the scan. However, despite many many calls to get the results, I could not get any response. There is a complete lack of understanding patient focus at the Mater Private. It is simply appalling.
I eventually had no choice but to advise the hospital that I would contact the national Press if they didn’t respond - and the my responded within a couple of hours.
So, based in my experience, I would never go to the Mater Private again and couldn’t possibly recommend them. It was the worst customer experience I’ve encountered in a long time. Never again.
Paid 650 for a health check for my wife…
Paid 650 for a health check for my wife and it was finished inside 50 minutes. She was left with a bruised and swollen arm from the blood sample taken. In general we felt that the whole experience was rushed and she wasn't given the proper time and attention. In contrast we usually go to the beacon hospital but it was fully booked. At least there they spend 4 hours with you and give you a thorough check up. We'd never return to the Mater again.
Doctors differ… Patients die.
I was taken to the Mater hospital by ambulance after I had collapsed with severe leg pain on O’Connell Street two weeks ago. They took my blood pressure and did a series of blood tests. After a 3-4 hour wait, I was given the information that the blood test results came back all clear. So despite the fact that I physically couldn’t walk more than 20-30 steps they were happy to send me home. I persisted that something wasn’t right. They then gave me an appointment for an ultrasound to be done 3 days later. I honestly felt that this was just to fob me off… Anyway, home I went.
The following morning I was taken into Tallaght Hospital, I was immediately diagnosed with multiple blood clots in my leg and operated on within a few hours.
I’m lucky to be here to tell my story, I wonder how many people that were sent home without a correct diagnosis aren’t.
Doctors differ… Patients die.
I simply cannot contact this hospital…
I simply cannot contact this hospital by phone for over 3 weeks - their voicemail gives an email address for us elderly patients - yet again undelivered. Then went to their web page for contact email details - guess what - doesn't work either. Absolutely scandalous that its is now over a month and they never answer their phones, emails that are totally useless as they are undelivered. On top of all that I was discharged with a MRA infection as a direct result of my surgery - never again !!!!!!
