Waste of time

We had an air source heat pump, solar panels, and loft insulation installed in August 2025, and since then the system has been nothing but trouble. It will appear to work for around three weeks, then the same error code returns and both the heating and hot water stop working completely.

We have had numerous engineer visits, yet every visit brings a different explanation — “there’s no issue,” “there’s a leak,” “the pressure is low” — but no actual fix. Engineers regularly tell us they cannot resolve the problem on the day. We are then promised follow-up calls that never happen, forcing us to chase repeatedly, only for another engineer to arrive who is also unable to fix the issue. The cycle simply repeats.

I raised a formal complaint months ago and received no response whatsoever. I sent another complaint yesterday asking for a manager to review the installation from start to finish, as it has clearly never worked correctly since day one.

Overall, this has been a complete waste of time and an incredibly frustrating experience. The system was sold to us as a major improvement to our home, but instead it has caused ongoing stress and disruption. I genuinely wish we had never gone ahead with the installation.

We are very sorry to hear about the ongoing problems you have experienced since the installation and fully understand how frustrating this must be, particularly given the repeated engineer visits and lack of a lasting resolution.
Given the history and nature of the faults described, this matter cannot be addressed remotely. A site visit will be required so the installation can be reviewed properly and holistically, rather than on a piecemeal basis.
Please could you ask the customer to contact our office so that we can discuss the issues directly and arrange an appropriate site visit with the relevant technical team. This will allow us to review the system from installation through to current performance and determine the root cause.
We appreciate your cooperation and look forward to resolving this as quickly as possible.

ECO4 scheme

New solar panels, heat pump and radiators fitted under ECO4 scheme. Absolute blessing as I was using cold water before and a new water tank was also installed to heat water. There were a few delays getting started and it was very stressful having a huge crew in the house ripping up floor boards etc for a few days but overall very happy with result. Kim (welfare officer) visited and it was such a relief because I was feeling very stressed out from all the work going on, but she was really reassuring and helpful. There were some communication issues with the office, but this feels minor in comparison to having a warm house now the job is completed. I applied to the scheme in August and the heating system was installed in September, just before the weather turned. Thanks to the team, especially Kim who was so reassuring on a difficult day.

Great work in the rain

Excellent work by both the panel installation team and the electricians despite very poor weather, it rained most of the time but they got the job done.

Not good…

The attitude of one of the installers could have been a bit better. The G98/99 process was not followed , we tried to get the correct paperwork but they were unable to provide us with it making applying for SEG very difficult as we had no DNO number or anything. National Grid didn't even know we had solar panels which they were meant to have been notified before installment.
The solar panels installed do not seem to be providing us with electricity at all. Resulting in an absolute appalling high electricity bill. Tried contacting this company a few times about it and they just brush it off to say its winter time so more electricity is being used.... is t the kwh imported from the panels meant to be going down?? Not up and up?!

Thank you for taking the time to raise your concerns with us. We are genuinely sorry to hear about the frustration and worry this situation has caused you, and we want to reassure you that your experience matters to us.

Firstly, please allow us to clarify the process regarding your 3.6kW solar PV system, which was installed under a government grant. As required under the scheme, post-installation notification is submitted, we can confirm that this was completed on your behalf. Following a further internal check, we can also confirm that your handover documentation was emailed to you, outlining system details and next steps. Unlike many companies, we also have an in-house energy advisor, and we would be more than happy to arrange a visit to support you directly with your SEG (Smart Export Guarantee) registration and ensure everything is in place correctly.

We sincerely apologise if the attitude of one of our installers fell short of the standard you should expect. This is not reflective of our values, and we will be addressing this internally.

Regarding the G98/G99 process, we appreciate how stressful this has been for you. While we did make efforts to obtain and submit the required documentation, we acknowledge that the lack of clarity around the DNO reference caused unnecessary difficulty when you tried to apply for SEG. We also understand your concern that National Grid were not aware of the installation at the time — this is something we are actively reviewing to ensure all notifications are clearly evidenced and communicated going forward.

In relation to your electricity usage and recent bill, we understand why this is worrying. Solar generation can be lower during winter months due to shorter daylight hours and weather conditions; however, this does not mean your system should not be contributing at all. Imported electricity readings should reduce when generation is occurring, and this is something we take seriously. We would like to arrange for our team to review your system performance, check inverter data and ensure everything is operating as it should.

Please be assured that we are always here to help and our intention is to resolve this fully, not dismiss your concerns. We would welcome the opportunity to send our energy advisor out to you, go through everything face-to-face, assist with SEG registration, and make sure you are getting the benefit your system is designed to provide.

We’re genuinely sorry that your experience with our office support did not reflect the same standard. We acknowledge that errors were made, including an incorrect address being recorded, delays in issuing the handover pack, and inconsistent advice around G98 versus G99 requirements. This should have been handled more clearly and more promptly.

To clarify, G99 applications rely on the DNO to issue approval and reference numbers, and unfortunately this part of the process is outside of our direct control and cannot be expedited. However, we fully accept that communication and follow-up from our office should have been much better, and we understand how frustrating this has been — especially given the length of time you’ve been waiting.

Your feedback has been taken seriously and has been escalated internally to improve our administrative processes and customer communication going forward.

Excellent service

From the word go the installation was carried out swiftly and professionally.
The engineers clearly know what they are doing and worked through the house adding the necessary pipeworks and electrics.
The house was in total chaos for 5 days, but the end result, of a warm and cosy house made up for it!
Thank you to all involved, you were all polite, hard working and professional.

First Class Service

We have recently had a our boiler replaced under the government EC04 scheme. Once the application had been approved Macbrook arrived within two weeks to start work. From the first contact with Louis until the job was completed all staff were extremely professional, efficient and hardworking; plumbers, electrician and scaffolders. A special mention to Olly and Nick who whizzed round at 100 miles an hour not stopping until the job was complete. Once the boiler had been installed Nick was very clear in explaining exactly what had been done and 'extremely' thorough completing final checks to ensure all was working well. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Mackbrook to anyone needing a boiler replacement.

Had an install done this year company…

Had an install done this year company who installed the system were ok while doing but after sales service was very poor.Macbrook gas took over,after a long period of time found the problem.They have booked 3 appointments to come and fix it but the last 2 times have contacted me and rescheduled with what I think is an excuse.Today I have waited at home for them but I have had to call them to discover yet again they are not attending to fix my problem.Good on install very poor at after sales service.

They are very good,brilliant. I had solar panels and inverter fitted no problems what so ever very efficient ,polite and helpful job completed with hardly anymess left on site 4 roof tiles where broken think he said three but four are missing should think he took one as a sample to get the correct roof tiles they are only 20 minuit s away and said s9meone will pop back to replace very happy with that response, but have contacted the team they have contacted me asking h9w happy I am with the job said I am very happy they did a great job I am very satisfied but can you find out what's happening with the roof tiles oh yes I can do that for you but I have not got any info back from anyone .I am left in limbo land not happy about the lack of information or keeping me informed of what is going on the job is complete seems it's goodbye sort yourself out from Bill SILVERWAY cottage

We are, however, very sorry for the frustration caused by the lack of follow-up communication regarding the roof tiles. You are absolutely right to expect to be kept informed, and we apologise that this has not happened so far. This is not the level of service we aim to provide, especially once a job has been completed.
The tiles were indeed taken to ensure the correct match, and we will make sure this is followed up as a priority. One of our team will contact you directly to provide a clear update and confirm when the tiles will be replaced, so you are no longer left in limbo.

I am wiriting this review for and on behalf of my parents! I would like to thank the team ESPECIALLY Hannah & Sam!! My elderly parents had no heating on Saturday after having a service completed on Friday. My dad is 84 and vunerable with his health and with the temperatures dropping rapidly he needs to keep warm so this was a concern. Not expecting the best being the weekend we tried on the off chance to telephone first thing Sunday morning to see if we could have an engineer out. Hannah took our call and advised she would do her best to get an engineer out in the afternoon. Within 10 minutes Hannah called back and said that someone would definitely be with them. Sam kindly attended mid afternoon and carried out the works efficiently and reassured my parents that all was working as it should be. Hannah then called back in the evening to check that all was okay. Absolutley outstanding customer service and we thank you for looking after them so efficiently without any trouble!! THANK YOU 😊

Good service

I have been a while waiting to leave this review until all of my work was complete. I have to say that the experience was great apart from misinformation at the survey in respect of how much moving of furniture etc was needed.... it is way more than the space in front of where the radiators and the airing cupboard for the first day. People really need to know exactly what they need to do accurately to save a lot of stress both for the customer and the poor fitters. That said the actual fitting and service was brilliant all the way through. We had Marcus and Martin to do our installation and they were excellent, how they managed to rip out a complete warm air system and have the new one in running and heating the house in two and a half days I will never know but they did it despite being held up at first because more things needed to be moved and carpets should have been taken up. They were both lovely guys who worked like trojans and were very careful of my home and all my treasures. Stella our Lab loved Martin who had time to give her a fuss each day. I must not forget to mention Pam the lady on the end of the phone who is kindness itself she really put herself out to get things booked in on the days that suited me and all went like clockwork just as she said it would, the rubbish was collected the day after the job finished and I had a builder booked in for two weeks later for the day to do the making good. I have just called to confirm that for tomorrow and all is arranged..
I am really pleased with the overall service that I got from Macbrook gas as a whole.

Heating Installation

The team, ably led by Brandon and Conner, were polite, cheerful, professional, capable and personable. They explained each stage of the work before it was undertaken and answered our questions in laymen’s terms. The installation was planned efficiently and they coped with any problems as and when they arose. They had to deal with an old and cluttered house and coped admirably. They cleaned up as they went and left everything as much as possible as they found it. They set a good example for the rest of the team.

We were also impressed with the other team members and your contractors. Furniture was moved, carpets unravelled, floorboards raised, electricals installed and old kit removed with the minimum fuss and disturbance The builder left the garden looking fine and the scaffolding was installed with no damage and removed on a Saturday. The whole team were also very kind to our old greyhound who enjoyed the fusses she got!

After Sales Support

As a result of the recent strong winds and rain, our newly installed heat pump’s thermostat lost connection with the radiators.

This was due to a brief power cut, a common problem in our area, leaving us without any heating.

Being a Saturday, we assumed that no one would be around to assist.

On the off chance, we phoned Customer Services and to our amazement were met with the familiar helpful voice of Hannah, who took all the details and said the “on call”Engineer (Taylor) would contact us that day.

Despite the call via a video link it was agreed that an Engineer would physically need to attend site to fix the issue.

We contacted Customer Services, Pam, Monday morning to arrange this and by the afternoon we had two Engineers Ian and Tyler attend site.

They not only resolved the problem, but also arranged for a mobile App tool to be setup ensuring any future disconnections due to electrical glitches could be acted upon swiftly using remote access.

Very pleased from beginning to end of…

Very pleased from beginning to end of the HHR installation - very polite professional men, did an excellent job of fitting radiators and programming them to run efficiently and explained the necessary functions, then cleared up and left everything tickety boo! Would certainly recommend this company 100% - thanks Macbrook estates

Our Positive Experience

From the first contact with your staff member Ryan right through survey to installation it has been an excellent experience. All staff who worked on our home were respectful and professional. Installation took place over two days 15th/16th October.

I had to call an engineer out...

I had to call an engineer out as our heating system stopped working. Tim came, tested the system, replaced the control unit, and showed me how to manually override it just in case it happened in future. He was both polite and friendly, as was Hannah at Macbrook when she followed up with a courtesy call. I cannot recommend them enough. Thanks Macbrook.

Great experience

Great experience. All those I came in contact with were polite and cheerful. Just what an old lady likes!! If a problem arose, the first thing I was asked was whether I could cope without heating for a few days until they had an engineer in my area. So reassuring that they will look after me. Great to get a follow-up call the next day to see if all is well. I can recommend this company every time.
