Carl came and quoted for a job and worked with us kindly to get our signage inside our budget, he came promptly and did such an incredible job, we got windows graphics which don’t block any light and an interior sign too.
Would definitely recommend and we will use again soon.

I’ve just received a couple of new additions to my Coastal Kits Display Bases collection.

The 1:35 Desert Base & Background set for which I have a 1:35 Gulf War AFV in plan. The background is quite pink and so would definitely suit UK desert pink scheme which I’ll have to remember when it comes to painting the models.

The second set is the 1:35 Normandy Street base and background. The buildings chosen really set the scene off well, with the street sign being a very nice touch.

The interesting thing about these bases is that when seen in situ with vehicles, one’s brain and eyes work together to bring the scene to life. Photos of them seem to give more opportunity to study the imperfections in depth of field and realism.

One final observation is that some of the bases would be much better if they had a matt finish as they can have an unnatural shine. Some modellers I know add e.g. grass to break up the flatness but for me this distracts from their value to me of being able to easily clean & store. I’m tempted however to give them a spray of matt varnish but I’m loathed to risk doing that just yet!

Despite some of my misgivings, these are well produced, quality bases which for me, have that major benefit of being easily cleaned and stored. Just one final tip, if you buy one with a background, keep an eye on where you left the corner clips as it won’t display without them! I’m thinking it may be worth buying spares.
