I over paid my rent before I moved in and since then for months been complaining to get my £175 owing to me back but no response from them at all. I never knew they were this bad and it seems I may have to file a small claims court procedure to get it re embused back to me. I will give it 7 more days then take it to court. Also write to the daily newspaper as well to warn others not to pay in advance because there'll be waiting for ever to get re embursed.

Update: Kirklees telephoned me last Monday 1st June and said they were paying it into my account, However its been 4 days and no sign of the payment yet on my account. I will give it to Monday if its not paid in within 1 week I will have to consider court action. Hopefully it wont come to that will update my review then. Update: June 2026, half of it paid back, why not the full 2 weeks heaven knows, no explanation.

Four years ago, a woman moved into the flat beside mine and the amount of noise quickly became unbearable and frequently continued until 1.00am. I contacted Kirklees Council’s Environmental Health who told me that the matter would be resolved easily and all I had to do was fill-in some record forms that state what sort of excessive noise I was experiencing, how long this noise continued and where the noise was coming from. Further to this, I was also given a telephone number of the Late Night Noise Team, who work outside office hours and at weekends, who will come along and catch the people making loud noise/playing music etc in the act. It was not long before I sent for them and they attended one weekend after mid-night and caught my neighbour in full flight holding a party and playing music excessively loud. Environmental Health informed me that my neighbour had been issued with a written warning regarding this situation, but six weeks later there was repeat performance and the Late Night Noise Team attended and caught them again.

However, much to my surprise Environment Health failed to issue a second warning claiming they could not do so on a technicality. Looking back, I should have pursued this, because it looks like Kirklees Council were unwilling to issue a second warning because this would have meant that under their own rulings, a third warning would have meant an automatic eviction and everything pointed to the fact that they did not want to place my neighbour in this situation. Over the next 18 months I filled out another four sets of record forms making a total of 200 instances of excessive noise coming from my neighbours property. To which I was informed that the local Housing Office had been round and spoken to them regarding the on-going problems, which always stopped temporarily and then after a few months or sometimes only weeks would start again. Over the four years I have suffered all this noise, I have spoken to about eight different Housing Officers (as some of these do not last long in the job) and e-mailed the head Kirklees Housing, the head of Kirklees Council and councillors of all the major parties. The only response I get is fill-out some more forms… If filling out forms did any good I would not still have this problem four years later!

More recently my neighbour’s property has become a doss house with people coming and going at all hours of the day and night and a number of people (including entire families) who stay there for days, weeks and sometimes months who make vast amounts of noise. Once again this is a situation that Kirklees Housing have absolutely no interest in at all, because the people making the noise are not tenants and so the tenancy agreement doe not apply to them and it appears that they can do whatever they like and there is no comeback whatsoever. A further worrying aspect is that the police have been seen visiting this property on several occasions always after mid-night.

All the way down the line for the past four years Kirklees Housing and Environmental Health have told me that they can and will deal with the situation and they will act, but in my experience they have neither the interest or backbone to even implement their own rulings. If anyone out there in Kirklees has the same problem, then all I can safely say do not rely on Kirklees Housing and Environmental Health to resolve the problem, because they won’t!

Simple, I have been bedridden for 7 years waiting for bilateral knee surgery can't stand or walk. Only have a poor shower in bungalow which I can't use as can't stand or sit on chairs have to use wetwipes.2 years without a wash. Asked for a bath downright refused 3 times had a stroke on 23 Feb hospital said need bath for future, after stroke and with oesteoarthritis still said no. Rang on 25 Feb to try to explain again a basic human right to be able to bathe. Advisor said "I've got 5 people waiting" and hung up just after I told her I had a stroke. Emailed for an apology disgrace that people in Accessible Homes Team can say NO without a visit from occupational health, to do assessment and only in job for monthly pay cheque. Looks like kirklees have slipped back into their victorian ways of dealing with the public and need a reminder that the money is not from their own bank accounts and need to have retraining and understand that all people with disabilities are not stupid or uneducated. I pay £400 month rent and will save up and have a bath fitted myself..be prepared to be on hold 2 hours or more and to be hung up on by ignorant, bad mannered people.

The worst council in the whole of the UK. Closing a perfectly good road and stopping the passing trade for 17 small businesses. Ignored 1000 objections and failed to follow proper guidelines. Working for Kirklees planning department must be an embarrassing thing to admit 🤡

Kirklees council tax department will not get involved when someone is commiting council tax fraud. Said nothing to do with them and happy to chase the person not even responsible for the account for payment. Offered proof and witnesses and still said no good as nothing to do with them. So my question, if it's nothing to do with them, why are they billing in the first place. Absolute jokers. So they accept fraud and don't have a problem.

We called the council for fly tipping, some weeks later they turned up and just sat in the van, I saw them at 10am 1130am and at 2pm still just sat there so i got out of my car and offered to pick up the rubbish for them and bollocked them on there laziness and as they got out one of them was reading a novel, a F ing novel. you are taking the P out of us. They stretched it out over two days, It would have taken me half an hour You know who you are, You should be ashamed

This appalling council are pursuing old and vulnerable people for exhorbitant amounts of council tax.Including us.Their recovery department breaches due process, is in corrupt practice with staff in the office of leeds magistrates court, and are abusive bulliestrying to rip off vulnerable people,for amounts they cannot afford, in order to pay for the council's grandiose and absurd building projects,overpaid and incompetent staff, and their own financial mismanagemet.
However, on the 24th january 2017, the Local Government Finance Act, and consequently the Council Tax, was declared illegal in the Supreme Court.This court holds sway over all others, and its judgements must be taken seriously.
Both the previous government and this appalling corrupt labour government, and councils which follow the same dictatorial left wing policies,are ignoring this judgement.
By doing so, they are not only seeking to bully people in to paying amounts they cannot afford,,but they are in breach of due process.The court quotes, somewhat robotically, the Local Government Finance Act 1992, but as I say, this law was declared illegal in the Supreme Court.This beacause procedures were not followed in parliament, at its inception, nor on subsequent,"updates."By parliament.These updates are invalid, for the reasons stated, as the basic illegality surrounding the act's inception have either been ignored,or bypassed.The Supreme |Court is the highest court in the land,and its judgements cannot simply be disregarded by parliament,or by councils.Nor by the police.
The council appear to be mired in corrupt and improper practice, forgery, fraud, and perjury, to achieve its aims.many of its elected councillors, and senior employees, are involved with local property developers, corrupt planners and builders, and ignoring both the people of Kirklees and their wishes and needs.They ask for loadsamoney, but provide no essential services in return.They are selling off assets,and closing essential facilities, and pleading financial distress,yet they can find millions for vanity projects, and the building of absurdist overblown, and architecturally questionable ego trips for over paid senior council directors.
One hesitates to say,"on the take, and on the make,"but that is certainly what it seems llike to many people they are supposed to serve.But they are not serving us.They are ripping us, and many businesses off, decimating the town centre, and preventing real enterprise, and real growth.They are meant to be public servants, but they do not serve us.they treat us like shit.
The Police refuse to address these issues, saying council, tax, and its recovery is a civil matter.But Forgery, fraud, perjury, and theft, abuse of Human rights, and breaches of the Equality Act 2010, The Human Rights Act 1998,The Disability Discrimination Act 1995,The Theft Act, and The Perjury act 1911, are criminal matters,and should be investigated by West Yorkshire Constabulary.Corruption and financial mismanagement, should be a matter of concern for the police.Just because they are getting a few bob for their own coffers out of it, is simply not good enough.Nor is it morally acceptable.
They have been getting away with this appalling abuse of power for so long, their employees don't appear to know right from wrong.
I for one, am sick of the way they have, and are treating me.Whilst we are isolated, they will continue to get away with it, and we will spend our time moaning to the press, or on forums like this, to no avail.We must all get together, and make a complaint as an entirety.Their misdemeanours cannot be allowed to continue, and they MUST,MUST,MUST, be held to accountThis has to stop.They got carried away during Covid, and their abuse of process, the law, and basic morality is getting worse.Time to put a stop to it.

Absolutley useless council shutting everything and cutting back on services.. more fly tipping especially in the third world areas like Dewsbury, Raventhorpe and Batley areas.. I have seen better running paralympians.. move out of kirklees and goto to africa it is a better lifestyle.. i would not have given a star but no choice like paying council tax.

Tip services - why don't kirklees tips accept rubble when plenty of other councils do? Anyone can save money by not actually providing a service. What we need is a council that can provide the services that council tax payers need within the budget it has. I just wonder how much rubble gets fly-tipped in Kirklees vs other councils that accept rubble.
Maybe the councilors who set these rules can afford to get builders in/pay the charges (£11/15kg bag!!).

Waste money on flower boxes to make the centre look nicer for all the crack heads and homeless people as they are the only people who go into town. No housing services no mental health service making the town centre even worse. full of criminals and immigrants. No out of hours doctors. No child services. Don’t even have a maternity unit. There a joke. Do not move here! The council tax is extortionate and covers nothing other than there wages. Pot holes in most roads, dirty streets, rats in centre. Full of cooperate companies no small businesses as they can’t afford to be here. They have morons stealing wages all workikt from home and not actually working for them and do nothing to protect the people within there council. We’re moving out of Huddersfield after 30 years because of how much worse it gets year on year. There in horrific debt and just waste further money on pointless things rather than what people want or need. Taken over.

I just wanted to say a big thankyou to the gentleman who does the road sweeping on field head estae he is such a nice kind and consierate man always happy to help and keeping the bins clear and tidy ,i have met him on several occasions when i am walking my dog and keeps the bin clean on raikes lane this is (used for doggy bags)i know most things on here are mostly negative and for the most part agree with all but this gentleman is an exception !!!

The disgusting Labour controlled Kirklees council have decided that the best way to recover the £50 million debt that they have incurred through complete incompetence and ineptitude, is to force those already in poverty, the sick and disabled, to pay council tax. Apparently this was agreed after a "public consultation", that did not involve ANYONE who will be affected by these immoral and despicable decisions. Kirklees council has always been an authoritarian dictatorship, and what they have done shows a lack of compassion and care that is usually reserved for their opposites in the Tory party. It's no wonder people are sick to the back teeth of the two main parties, with the reason being the stupid and ignorant individuals that we have in authority today.

my poor treatment at the hands of Kirklees Council as a long - term disabled person with mental health conditions .

Up an till this year there was a council tax exemption for all people living on a low income and who where not in work .

But Kirklees have got rid of exemption and when your already on a low income trying to deal with the cost of living where food and everthing is going up . This could not of come at the worst of times .

I also use my benefit money to do art as away of self medicating as it stops me from self - harming and or putting my live at rise of harm , so by taking away even more of my money that i can not afford this could put my life at risk .

And i know of many of my friends that well be in the some boat . In one way or a other i have been treated badly by this council as a Vulnerable adult .

I tried to phone yesterday to get through to a housing officer named Caroline she works on the dewsbury batley area as the workers doing my neighbours garden think it’s acceptable to start a job which the council workers said they cannot finish till next week which isn’t good enough I cannot access my garden I have 2 dogs and a 3 year old my neighbour is expecting me to leash my dogs which means I cannot even use my garden into the Easter holidays my neighbours dog is also aggressive which makes it is dangerous for my daughter I’ve had no phone back the council have not come out to finish the job I cannot understand how it’s acceptable to take a fence down but yet say you have another job to go and do which means I’m left all weekend without access to my garden and not only that the workers was also rude telling me fu*k off which now also means I feel very intimidated in my own home Kirklees council do not give a damn they do useless jobs they have young teens which don’t have a clue what they are doing and don’t give a crap about trying to help they are absolutely disgusting!

Having seen the state Huddersfield town centre has been in for the last three years I have lost hope of Kirklees ever finishing anything they have started. They should change the name from Kirklees council to the mañana council.

Would give 0 stars if i could. Absolutely appalling council. Think its acceptable to allow a vulnerable disabled person to be give and absolute s**t tip of a house with walls falling down, mould, rubbish everywhere, broken windows, no flooring, leaks in roofs and they have also gotten rid of the decorating grant so you get Absolutely no help and they say tough its not our problem. Even if i had the money to pay for it all sorting im physically unable to do so myself due to being disabled heavily relying on a friend to do all the decorating.

Other councils have alot of grants and support in place for disabled people in this situation but kirklees say tough luck.

Also staff are rude and make flippant and accusing comments about disabilities because if you dont look crippled for the 5 minutes they see you then clearly you aren't disabled so rude comments can be made 🙄 what they dont know is you were on 4 different Painkillers just to even sit and have a 5 minute conversation with them and are left crippled for days after.

Well I'm surprised there aren't 1000s of reviews on here.
Firstly there are some departments and individuals at KMC who do a great job.
However the Council Tax department has a long way to go with their threats of summons, bailifs and even custodial sentences ( prison ) for not being possible to find the money to pay it a year in advance.
It's not refusing to pay it it's having no money to pay it.
Now the Empty house property that they tell you about with a court date.
The house is up for sale but the roof and ceilings have all collapsed it's a death trap and now I'm too ill to work I have to claim benefits and have to pay £500 for the mortgage myself as I'm not renting I'm left with £87 a month for all utilities, food etc
Thank god my health condition allows me to have free prescriptions.
Other councils support people in situations like this and allow free prescriptions if someone is awarded PIPS. Kirklees is still in the Victorian age and the wrong people are making decisions about where the government funding should be going time for a shake up
