Unrealistic expectations from elementary students learning from home

We love MNVA! The teachers are great. They really love their students and are attentive to their needs. The kids enjoy the curriculum. I appreciate that they send out laptops and learning materials. Sometimes we experience tech glitches but MNVA is quick to communicate about them and tech support is helpful.

MNVA has been an amazing experience! Amazing teachers!

It's not the company, it's the teachers that made my daughter's experience good. They respond to questions via email or online always much faster than brick and mortar teachers ever could. They also don't have to deal with as much misbehavior among the students during class so they seem to enjoy teaching more. Those teachers that used their own curriculum more than the K12 format had much more interesting classes my daughter said.

It's amazing have my daughter at home in a safe space and see how she learns and open up his mind to different things and people.

The teachers and staff have been very responsive in helping when there are struggles and are very flexible to work with.

We have had an amazing group of teachers to work with. If I felt like my daughter needed help I would ask her teacher and her teacher would help her or give me resources to utilize to help her.

The staff are professional and very helpful. The teachers are accommodating with helping my son.

We switched to MNVA from another local online school because we were assured that it would be a politically neutral school with solid educational foundations. However, over the last few years MNVA has become increasingly woke, and I'm very disappointed in the level of education. I have been told that the lesson plans are state standard and I refuse to accept that poor excuse, as my sister in law is a teacher in the state of Minnesota and has been for quite some time. An example would be my 11th grader's history class in which the entire WWII unit was about LGBTQ and Black protests during those years because of unfair treatment. That was frankly shocking and disappointing considering that it was a WORLD WAR, and it should have been taught as such, not as a civil rights movement. Also, English class is always about black history or Immigrants struggling for social justice, with my daughter being forced to listen to and write disgusting poetry about young people online researching white supremacist websites and young girls being groped by teachers while being forced to wear school uniforms. I had to pause it to take a break 3 times because their shouting "poetry" hurt my ears and grated on my nerves. Another assignment had her reading a book with pornographic material and I had to request she get an alternate assignment. Which ended up being 'The Old Man and The Sea', which is what the original assignment should have been, as far as I'm concerned. The third option was a fiction book about an Immigrant who hates the neighborhood she lives in and is ungrateful for how hard her family has worked to get to where they were. My daughter had already read the book in other classes at least twice! Talk about indoctrination. My children have ALWAYS been excellent students, and we have an extremely multi-cultural family. My family is from Italy, my husband's family is from Mexico, my aunt is Japanese. All have different stories of how they've come to be here but all of our immigrant relatives have had to work extremely hard to succeed, and none have complained about social justice. Our youngest child is adopted, he's black so this has nothing to do with race, gender or anything else. NO group of people should be put above any other group. Choosing ONLY black or immigrant authors (who write fiction) and teaching about the unfairness of this country isn't helping anyone. Authors should be black, hispanic, asian, white, Native American, etc. Your curriculum should be well rounded and not focused on gender or race, as it's such a minor part of who we are as people. Instead of focusing on race, the focus should be on cultural. Which culture to people most identify with? All of this LGBTQ and racial struggle is taking away from education, and it's no wonder kids are no longer proficient in math, science and English. Children are being distracted by 'social justice'. I have friends in several other states and they DO NOT have this kind of curriculum. It's truly disgusting and my children's grades are suffering and then they aren't allowed into the PSEO program. In fact, I spoke to the local college and they said that the GPA was fine they just needed a referral letter from the school. Unfortunately, because my kids are not following the narrative and instead are trying to focus on education like they're supposed to, my son did not get a good referral. I'm extremely disappointed with K12. My son graduated this past year and if my daughter wasn't graduating this coming year I would find a different online school, we're actually considering her switching to something else anyway. My youngest is going into 4th grade with IQMN and he has had ven diagrams with male, female and transgender people. His last 2 books of the year were Michelle Obama, who hasn't been first lady in years and Ruth Bader Ginsberg who was extremely pro-abortion! What these kids are being taught to idolize is completely unbelievable. Please do better, this is absolutely uncalled for. We entrust our children's education to you, and we expect you to hire people who have the same values as the parents that you are accountable to. In its current state, I would NOT recommend K12 to anyone.I'm giving it 2 stars only because my youngest has had excellent teachers, otherwise it would be a 1 star.

Minnesota Virtual Academy has been a great learning experience for my daughter, she is thriving so much better than when she was in traditional in person school.

This school has been amazing for our son. Love that they have classes geared toward future careers. Our son joined the OEP for the Local 49ers Union and will be starting his career soon. Thank you for everything you do to help kids gain an education in a manner that suits them.

A great school option for my family. I like the convenience and flexibility. The curriculum is comprehensive and very informative.

Our high schooler's experience at Minnesota Virtual Academy exceeded our expectations. We moved our son from a brick & mortar middle school to an online school for high school after discovering online learning was a great fit for him. The teachers at MNVA are fantastic - many of them have been teaching in the online environment for years, so they really understand how to present the material and engage their students. Online labs for science classes were sufficient, but I would like to have seen a few more hands-on lab activities for students to try at home. Communication from the school was consistent and informative and teacher responses to questions from our son were always timely. If you know learning online works for your student, I highly recommend checking out MNVA.

This has helped with my family dynamics. The teachers and counselors have all been very helpful and professional.

The curriculum is engaging and solid. The teachers, counselors, and support staff are excellent. We feel cared for and supported. There are clubs and in-person field trips, and even prom on a river boat for high school students. We love MNVA! The online school has worked well for our kids and helped them thrive. They enjoy school and sharing about what they are learning. Highly recommended if you are considering online school.

The flexibility was very important for the family. Great teachers, offering assistance for a student in all courses of study.

Because it is a school that is organized, address my child's needs and exceed my expectations, they give a college and career preparation, you get support from every corner, they are open minded and understandable, and have fun programs and games for my child. So we are with this school since 2020 and counts, we have no desire to change to a different school. We are so thankful to find this wonderful school as a good fit for my child.
