Avoid Image Property
Terrible experience from beginning to end. As tenants, we felt like we were mis-represented and treated with contempt. We gave a month's notice at the end of our tenancy, only to be barraged by constant emails during that month, demanding that new tenancy inspections be conducted. They waived the legal requirement of 48 hours notice 3 of those times, and even threatened to gain entry should we not be present. On one occasion, we were only given 12 hours notice. To add insult to injury, they requested 5 of these inspections and never showed up for one. They did not even have the common courtesy to inform us of cancellations and failure to attend, so we were left there waiting well past the due time. During the stress of moving home, packing and cleaning, we had the added burden of stalling our move to prepare a four bedroom home for inspections that never materialised. In addition, the end of tenancy cleaning company that this agency recommended, failed to show up at the scheduled time and date, leaving us waiting 4.5 hours past the due time in front of a property we had already vacated. At the 11th hour, we were forced to locate other cleaners to do the job. Weeks later, we received a notice from the agent telling us we owe them $220 for steam cleaning carpets that we had already paid cleaners to steam clean. No invoice was provided to back this claim, only a demand that $220 be deducted from our bond. After waiting four weeks for the agency to sign off and approve us receiving our bond, the RTBA contacted us to tell us a dispute had been raised by the agency. We contacted the agency and reached a resolution, reluctantly agreeing to pay the $220, but again they stalled and not signed off. A recent notification from RTBA telling us that the request had been terminated due to lack of input from the estate agency. This has been over two months of nothing for no reason at all. At the least, it is incompetence and apathy on the part of the agency, at at most, a clear neglect of duty of care to clients. In the interim, we stated our case to Consumer Affairs, and also contacted media outlets about this dilemma, hoping for some kind of resolution. Our contact with the agency has reached no resolution.
