Always book our holidays through Hays Travel. Went into the Shrewsbury store. Always friendly, helpful and knowledgeable people. Lovely girl, sadly I can’t remember her name, sat us down and helped us find our perfect getaway. As soon as we told her what we were looking for, she was so helpful and found us the right place. This outfit are nothing short of sharks.Its only fair for the public to be aware of a practice that conveniently is not mentioned at point of booking when paying for a fly cruise, (In this case a Carribean cruise with the infamous P&O) As well as making the public aware of the very unfair and erratic pricing that we have found out whilst on the ship ( Avivia) and talking to several passengers and visually viewing absolute like for like bills/ receipts for identical packages.The only difference was our two weeks cruise booked with Shrewsbury and a couple we met booked theirs from Sheffield Hays was just two days apart.Same airport just one deck above both premium seats.We foolishly were stung for £8,500 theirs was £4,000.( And they had more on board spending).Going back to what they DONT tell you is that at point of booking and if you choose to fly premium you are told you can only be guaranteed to sit together if you sign up to the app and a certain amount of weeks prior to flight you will see on seating plan what seats are available and simply book them.This goes live on a certain date at midnight.Like fools you stay up at midnight to find nothing available, this was subject of conversation where we were stunned to find out this is a common thing.We phoned Hays Shrewsbury who basically told us it must be a connection issue our end.After numerous calls to P& O from us and shop staff minimum wait time usually 50 minutes( The only line where you will speak to someone promptly is the sales line) we were informed by a manager at P&O, the lines open TWO DAYS prior to frequent cruisers so we never had a chance to book sitting together.Unfortunately we paid up in full.They've got your money.Is it unreasonable to want to sit with your partner on a plane.You wouldn't go to the theatre or for a meal and not expect to be seated together. You would think the staff would be aware of this. There are a few lapses of staff training, Another example is following the procedure on Hays website to make a complaint it tells you to initially contact shop you booked with.Having no confidence in them at all I took a deep breath .Spoke to manager informing her of the huge difference in identical holiday.Her response was Quote "Highly unlikely". It's an extraordinary response for a manager to make.She then told me she can't forward complaint I need to speak to customer services they will deal with it.Surprise surprise spoke to a very helpful lady who told me this is incorrect the manager of the shop should deal with it then it gets escalated to a regional manager if not resolution. So again maybe the manager should be given some training on company policy. This whole journey with Hays has been nothing but a nightmare, a comedy of errors, incompetence and poor service. Judging by the amount of unhappy passengers admittedly not all booked with Hays but there were THREE independent ones. Hays appears to have a "Five star rating" how on earth can that be??? Maybe the unhappy customers just take their business elsewhere.
The conclusion of this is that have received email palming the blame onto P&O and acting in good faith.
We are seeking legal advice and at the moment from what we are being told this outfit will have some questions to answer. DONT LET THIS HAPPEN TO YOU ASK QUESTIONS AND DONT PAY STRAIGHT AWAY.
