Hales couldn't supply a decent carer who could shower my sister without hurting her so this person, not fit for the job was her main morning carer from June tol December. Then when my sisters care review came up they said they didn't have time to attend but sent the social worker a string of ablist accusations about my sister behind her back. A new care plan with drastically cut down hours was applied and now my sister has been in hospital for 3 weeks as she collapsed due to exhaustion and aggravation of all of her conditions due to this neglect. Non of the safeguarding issues have been addressed properly. Hales doesn't provide person centred care they provide person hated care

I am deeply disappointed and disgusted…

I am deeply disappointed and disgusted with the care my mum received from Hales Care and with the response from both Hales and their care team.

The notes on the family portal repeatedly painted a picture that everything was fine when it clearly was not. They logged that my mum had been given showers when this never happened. On the morning she died, the carers wrote that she had been medicated and was “doing well” – in reality she was unconscious and minutes from death.

I have raised these issues with Hales and have been told that the carers have been “given a warning” and that this is all they can do. I find this response absolutely disgusting and completely inadequate. My mum died, and I am now being told that the only thing they can go off is the carers’ own reports – reports which are totally inaccurate and, in my view, misleading.

I trusted Hales Care to look after my mum with dignity, honesty and basic professionalism. Instead, I have been left feeling that the records were falsified to make things look better than they were, and that there is no real accountability for what has happened.

Looking online, the number of bad reviews Hales Care already has clearly reflects their awful level of care and my experience sadly fits that pattern. Based on what has happened to my mum and how my concerns have been handled, I would not recommend Hales Care to anyone.

Company seems impossible to improve. Very bad rude staff and careless attitude from management. I'm changing company and hopefully a better service

No help at all

They help with otter stuff but not what mostly needs help with fixing my hoover and helping me maintain highgene I do my best but not sure if I'm doing it right.

Care is not a word to use alongside Hales

Company were contracted to give my mother medication twice a day - that's all they needed to do. They managed that correctly 5 days out of 20. Many other care failings including not turning up on time, not scheduling visits at all, lying about issues, bringing people in from 250 miles away to try to offer care. They were supposed to remove out of date food - when we went in we took away a bin bag full. Incompetent, and badly managed. Phones not answered, lies told about cover.

We decided to change agency - they knew this and it was agreed they would provide cover until nee agency found, They agreed to this again on Wednesday, and reiterated it at 1530 on Friday. Then. after Social Services close on a Friday, at 1706, they inform us they will not cover care at the upcoming weekend.

They cause more work than they solve, have no concern for clients in their care, and won't communicate with you. They report to sending threatening legal letters if you complain. At least half a dozen people in this past week or so that I know of have left them having suffered them taking over a contract - this is not a one-off. Avoid at all costs.

Interesting to note that if you look at the 5* reviews, they seem to have been left by staff working for Hales. I am sure they were not asked to do that.

They are a disgrace to the profession.

Can't leave a zero rating on this site but today carers late for lunch visit two days on the trot, tonight came in at 19.36pm left at 19.51pm ment to be half an hour visit, please do ask for ring door bell footage If you give a dam about how you treat your clients

Don't pay you properly and expect you to pick up non-drivers and take them home.

Expected to pick up non-drivers out of your pocket for fuel. Automatically enroll you on to insurance without your consent. Don't always pay milage between calls.

My Mums care moved over to Hales around March April time 2024. Firstly, I would like to point out that not all carers are bad that work for Hales. My Mum has had some amazing carers in that I cannot fault whatsoever. The problem with Hales lays with the office
During the time of when my Mums care plan was put in place, the specific times that was agreed to are now starting to lapse. The communication that comes from Hales is shocking and at no point are you informed of any care changes. Hales had cost me near on £110 for creams that cannot be used and as I also work full time, I will now have to take more breaks than I am entitled to from my work place to come and put creams
on my Mother.
As I said, Hales have their good points with some of their carers, then their office being the bad points. I cannot even get a call back from My Mums Dr's surgery until Monday morning, which means if my Mum has any issues with broken skin, I will be putting this back on Hales!
If you want a care company that likes to not put the needs of their clients first, likes to cost you more money during a cost of living crisis, likes to put strain on family members that also care for loved ones then this is the company for you!

Definitely would not recommend staff didn't give mum any food half of time,constantly ringing the office but getting no where, there favourite saying is will ring you back, which nobody ever did, so many different carers going in, I didn't know who was going from one day till next, 1 week 8 different carers, only ever there for about 10 min at most but getting charged for half hour , 1 carer went at 8 30 at night, the call was 4,30

Awful company, my father has dementia and some of the carers were caught man handling him! On top of this my mother was left with a diabolical mess in the bathroom, where they'd spilt water all over the floor and left it! If my mother hasn't had seen this mess, she could have fallen and had a serious accident.

Furthermore, on several visits they had gotten feseas all over my dad's sheet, they didn't attempt to clean it, instead rolling it up and stuffing it in the laundry basket.

I don't believe this company to be fit to provide care to the elderly or anyone for that matter. Several complaints had been made to no avail, don't waste your money or time, find an alternative company.

Thank you for your detailed review. We are sorry that you feel the care received fell short of your expectations. Having investigated the matters raised and reviewed the records of care to your father, we can confirm that on the one occasion when faeces needed to be cleaned up during a care visit, the records show that this was completed appropriately in line with carers training, however there appears to have been insufficient communication between the carers and your mother in relation to what involvement was expected with the soiled laundry, which was unacceptably placed in a laundry basket.

There are no reports of water over a bathroom floor, however we recognise, had this been the case, it would present a hazard to other occupants of the property. An investigation relating to alleged “man handling” found this to be unsubstantiated. Despite this, we support an individual's right to choose their preferred care provider and facilitated a move to another organisation with whom we trust you are receiving the care and support your father needs.

We sincerely regret when we cannot meet the expectations of all individuals and use all feedback to ensure that where changes need to be made, lessons are learnt.

Awful company to work for

I started training with Hales in the beginning of the month online and then 1 day at the office in Peterborough, training was ok , not much to learn as i had previous experience . they booked me for swadoing which was if i remember right 3 days around 3/4 hours in the morning but with big gaps betweens calls with a lady carer who lived in Peterborough mind you i was shadowing in Huntingdon but they said not having anyone in huntingdon for me to do shadowing. My shift of work was 7 am to 14 pm as they advertised online when i applied at interview , but that was a joke, they put me on rota for 4 hours for 2 or 3 days weekly gave me calls after 2 pm with big gaps between calls , in 1 week i had 3 working hours yes! 3 hours in 1 week . I asked them to give me late shift as I was without work guess what ? didn't happent and they advertised late shift looking for carers They kept put me on rota on odd hours which i kept telling them i cannot do it . I met some good carers but some awful ones too who didn't have ideea what they are doing ,not wearing PPE... i left when I realised they are not gonna give me enough work , all i could cover was mobile data on phone as i was using my phone for their app and fuell ! Awful experience!!!!! Very rude on phone when i called them with a problem . They just cut me off and didn't let me to speak screaming at me on the phone .. In one week and single one i had 14.5 working hours at 11.44 per hour , that's it !!!! From 40 hours i requested weekly !!! Do not hire people if you not have enough work I cant live week by week with air waiting for you to take on more care packages someday !
And yes all the good reviews are posted by the office staff !!!

Our Peterborough standard pay rate is £12.00 per hour and this would be received for all hours worked upon completion of induction and shadowing.

We provide staff with a fully expensed mobile phone with unlimited data. However, where staff choose to use their own mobile phone, we do pay a monthly allowance for any data used, albeit the App used for care delivery uses very minor levels of data.

It's possible you were not aware of this payment if you did not work for Hales for a full month.

Our Peterborough Team are highly regarded for their care and commitment to their staff team and service users, and the situation you describe is extremely out of character of any member of the team. We appreciate consistent work is key for our care teams and we endeavour to match individuals with a round of care that meets those needs, however, we do prioritise the needs and preferences of our service users. Caring and supportive

I've worked in care for over 20years and been with Hales for nearly two years. As with a lot of care company the wages could be better, but it's reflective of other companies in Huntingdon and Peterborough area. As a whole both teams deliver good care to those we support, we try where able to be flexible with call times for clients and staff, while ensuring we maintain a safe service. Do we get complaints raised, yes we do, but we try to resolve these as quickly as possible, yes we do. This team are some of the most caring staff, I've work with and regarding and the management team work together to not only support clients and staff but also each other. As a rule Rota's are completed ensuring travel time and not back to back, and clients have calls at the agreed time, however during holidays and staff sickness there are times that we need to makes changes a short notice, we try to ensure staff and clients are informed. Are we perfect, not by a long short, we do however all care. It's one of the few companies I've worked for that i would be happy to look after my own family

Competent very pleasant staff

Goodness me the previous reviews are very mixed.
Huntingdon and Peterborough sectionThe Care staff working for Hales are on the main extremely good, caring and efficient, but like any organisation you get a mix of abilities.
Not always on time but a 15 minute window I feel is reasonable, I was informed quickly that the Carer would be late, both times for very good reasons, traffic and waiting for an ambulance.
Care Companies have a very difficult job, recruiting the right type of employee, and making their rotas work for everyone.
My experience is talk to the company if you have any real issues, and they will try and rectify these as soon as possible.
I would recommend Hales, Huntingdon and Peterborough Section as they offer flexibility, and in this day and age reasonable value for money.
Keeping good staff is always a challenge.

Hales Peterborough branch

Hales are a good company to work for, I enjoy my job. The hours can be long and tiresome but the difference you can make to someone’s life is very rewarding. We have good support in our Peterborough branch and feel comfortable and confident approaching them with regards to any issues. As staff caring for a loved one of a stranger we will always do our best and go that extra mile to make them feel safe, seen and heard by involving them in their own care. The office branch in Peterborough are helpful and supportive to their staff. The pay is good, and so are the breaks
