Transparency

I find it incredulous that all of the negative, nasty and, very possibly, fake reviews of Fitzpatrick's Referrals are listed first on this "Transparency List" of verified reviews. They're all written, in extremely bad English, by people who are angry/upset or being paid to write bad reviews. No practice as bad as these "reviews" suggest would have had its own TV programme for over a decade; nor would its founder be so revered by legions of satisfied customers.

Fitzpatrick failings, Greed for money before health of our beautiful dog Bella

We are absolutely heartbroken sad and darn right angry of the rude, arrogant , the big mistake this vet has made on our recent visit on the first instance First of all he greeted us with "why are we here"!! His English could of been better, we told him our dog was referred because of her lameness, but also because she has a lump on her leg which concerned us greatly . Bella our dog had an MRI with the promise of this vet aspirating these lumps she has, so we pick her up after her mri, and he begins his sales package talk of telling us she needs a cruciate ligament operation, well we said it depends on her results for her aspirations, then he tells us he forgot to do this, and will do it next time, although we hadn't agreed in anything, then he started to tell us Bella still has her's intact, but she will need this doing next week being Tuesday, I said what about her lumps, he said, and I quote, oh that won't be anything serious that will be just a cyst or lipoma, so we felt pressed into making Bella have this operation, post op was told all went well no problems, but by this time they had look at slides of her aspirated cells from her lumps and they were suspicious, but he never told us that, we never found out the results for10 days post op, but they had the results back, We asked for results as on paperwork it said the results were in over a week before , but didnt telI us!!! We are more than distraught and devastated to say her test came back as Mast Cell aggressive cancer, we are heartbroken, yet the way he spoke to me on phone was deplorable and darn right rude, he spoke down to me and just taalked over me . He was carrying on talking while I'm in bits on phone, he had no empathy, and I want to take this further, I'm going to take legal advice against this awful vet, He had no empathy or people skills.. we would never have put our dog through this expensive operation, He withheld the results, It is pure greed for money, that's all it is to them. We were worried about Bella's breathing post op, but they said go back to your vets even though we were at fitzpatrick Referrals, with the nurse, who I suppose have to abide by this vets rules. Who just don't care!! But I guess if I was on TV with Bella, it most certainly would be a different story!!! My dog suffered because of this vets failings. I want him sacked.

Downright disgraceful!

My dog became lame after a injury last Wednesday 1st June. I took him straight to my vets who a referred him to FR on a URGENT basis yesterday. Having read the"transparent" fees on there website, stating £4200 for the op, including xrays. I have now been told today by them, that my dog needs xrays before he will be seen. I asked if that means they will reduce the £4200 to account for the xrays? No was the reply as he will still need another one?? On top of that, they won't see him till August 25th!!! So my dog is to stay in pain and be struggling for almost 3 months??? How can this be right. In my opinion no vet would leave a dog suffering for 3 months. They are a absolute disgrace! Please don't be taken in by what you see on the TV!

From Pet Care to solely a Money Making Enterprise

Our Dog Ted suffered a fractured back leg after he was hit by a car in Dec 2020. We were referred by our local Vet to Fitzpatrick Referrals and as you do in these situations we went along with their advice. After a successful operation, Ted was treated and left to rehabilitate with some pins helping secure the affected joint. After his rehab period we were told that the pins could be removed, but that they would cause absolutely no issue so there was no need to remove them and even if they did he was under the care of Fitzpatrick so they would resolve this, clearly suggesting within the original bill of close to £7,000.
After getting Ted back to full strength over the next few months there were occasional issues with the leg and we contacted FR to see whether this could be being caused by the pins. After pursuing this line of enquiry for several months, there was no clarity from our own Vet or FR over what might be causing the issues and we were eventually told that as over 6 months had lapsed since his operation, there would now be a cost of around £800 to remove the pins. This was clearly a shock as it had been intimated that if the pins ever needed removing, then this was under their responsibility, and no mention of a timescale was ever made and of course our insurance does not cover a previously injured limb!
We were still receiving conflicting advice and decided to continue resting and then strengthening Ted’s leg, but by December 21 his lameness was recurring regularly and in worse episodes and we decided after xrays via our local Vet were again inconclusive that we had to have him looked at by Fitzpatrick Referrals. After inspection, they could see nothing else untoward, and it was decided to remove the pins.
We have now received a bill of over £2,000 for doing this, when originally, we were told it was not necessary and even if it was, it was covered by them. We were then quoted around £800. So the longer the issue went on, that they caused by not removing the pins, the more we got to pay, whilst their initial decision not to remove the pins has caused significant suffering to our Dog.
Since the operation to remove the pins, Ted has completely recovered and if I could share the xrays which we got hold of it doesn’t take a trained Vet to appreciate that with several pins protruding into surrounding tissue, that this would very obviously have been the issue from very early on.
We have tried to go through the Veterinary Mediation service, but this request has been rejected by Fitzpatrick Referrals. We are also pursuing a case through the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, but are struggling as our case is against the practice itself and the conduct of the practice, rather than against a specific surgeon. We don’t blame anyone for the advice, but we do hold the practice responsible when initial promises have been gone back on and our bills have got higher and higher the more the problem presented.
Fitzpatrick have earned themselves a good reputation through the TV and associated PR, but on closer inspection of other reviews, the wanton money making seems to be trumping the care with which our pets should all be entitled.

UNPROFESSIONAL AND INDIFFERENT

Further to our post of 8 July, and the tragic and unnecessary loss of Molly, we wrote to FR asking why we had been told by their "expert" that her procedure would be "safe" when other veterinary and human practitioners had - subsequently - told us that it would be "very risky". FR has not replied. Draw your own conclusions.
We also asked why FR's only response to date had omitted to acknowledge our telephone conversations with their "expert", in which he had described her procedure as "safe", and had accepted that whatever went wrong happended while she was in FR's "care". FR's recollections are extremely selective.
FR has also refused to explain to us why they required a human consultant to attend Molly's procedure - for which they were paid £500 - and exactly what that person did (other than to "observe"). In the absence of an explanation, is it possible that the individual was there to be trained for their benefit; although we paid them handsomely for the privilege. Did that compromise the procedure? If not, why won't FR explain?
We asked the RCVS if it was happy with FR's behaviour following Molly's death but, maybe because they appear to be funded by veterinary surgeons, we were referred only to its mediation service. Fine in principle, but if FR won't even reply to our (only second) letter, how does the RCVS expect FR to participate meaningfully in mediation? If Molly had been human there would be an inquest, and the persons responsible would be required to explain, but because she was "only" canine, the veterinary profession is not required to answer even the simplest questions. That must change.
The unavoidable conclusion is that something went wrong while Molly was in FR's "care" and possibly being used for training purposes. If we are wrong, why isn't FR willing to engage with us? We have experienced the side of FR that is never seen on TV, or in the doubtless very lucrative advertisments for pet insurance.
If your pet seems to require the sort of procedure a "local" vet cannot undertake, there are many referral services available; just make sure you never, ever go to FR.

My dashchund Spencer Lovelock has been…

My dashchund Spencer Lovelock has been treated several times for different problems at Fitzpatricks. First back surgery by Susan Murphy who was brilliant caring and very attentive could not ask for better from all of the staff in Eashing. Then Iain Grant and his fantastic team treated Spencer for a throat problem then mast cell tumours in the Oncology Guildford Many phone calls to us (during lock down) in his own personal time making sure we understood. Again could not wish for better.
Spencer loved going to the two hospitals and the underwater treadmill he never showed any signs of nerves he loved them all. We never worried about him when he was in their care. Sadly we had to say our goodbyes to him on 4th June 2021 he was12yrs old . Iain Grant and his team were with us during this awful time which helped knowing Spencer was surrounded by love. He was described by the Staff as a lovely gentleman a pleasure to work with and one of their little celebrities. They kept Spencer for us after he died in their cool room till his funeral 4 days later and would not accept payment for that. Cannot thank these wonderful vets enough and their lovely receptionists and nurses etc who could not do enough for us just such good attitudes. Thank you Fitzpatricks Referrals my boy got 6 years after his back surgery and 1 year after mast cell tumours with no pain

thank you from Benson Scott

I just want to say a big thank you to Iain Grant and his team at Fitzpatrick referrals oncology and soft tissue in Guildford. We had 9 months of treatment for our Benson and the care and support for what we knew was an incurable disease it gave us extra time and our springer spaniel back to almost normal. Unfortunately he did not stay with us much longer after treatment but the care and dedication and the ongoing updates from Iain was second to none. Benson was always happy to go with the team for treatment without giving us a backward glance when dropping him off. We miss Benson dreadfully, he was definitely unique. Yes, maybe we had to wait a time in the car park when dropping him or picking him up but hey we’ve all waited in doctors surgeries to be seen why should animals be any different. We cannot praise the staff highly enough. Thank you and carry on the good work. xx

I cannot believe I’m writing this about…

I cannot believe I’m writing this about a veterinarian company which has been a major player in my decision to treat my dog..If I only knew the true story and not what is portrayed on the tv then this review would not be happening..
Soon as you arrive and say where you are parked they want 50% payment (albeit holding on your account)..I was pre warned that consultation would be about 4 hours..
Arrived early yet not seen until 30 minutes after arranged time
Told go have lunch phone two hours later for update
Telephoned at set agreed time
MY DOG HAD NOT BEEN SEEN (two hours)
Given numerous excuses..Message you,bad signal bla bla bla
So had to wait another hour and a half..
Then told vet will be out to you immediately to discuss findings
45 minutes later vet arrived
No wonder the reviews are so bad
Customer service is shambolic
Communication is near zero
I for one and I will advise others to give a wide berth of Supervet
My dog was left in a kennel for two hours before seen
Supervet might…….Might do a good job for dramatic affect ..
In the real world
A lot to be desired
This customer will never go back to this surgery with his dog
Maybe try RVS

Owner care leaves a lot to be desired…

My 9 month old puppy was referred to Fitzpatrick referrals with Meningitis. I am very grateful to the vet, Diego, for looking after him. However, the arrogance of the people at this practice is astonishing. First of all they expect you to have thousands of pounds lying around to pay them IMMEDIATELY. I paid the £1500 “admittance fee” to be allowed to enter through their hallowed doors and they are now delaying claiming from the insurance company (my other vets were fantastic around this and it has already been settled). No one has the time to speak to you as a decent human being or answer your questions, I got talked over a lot and was treated as if my dog was their dog and I had no right to be asking questions about him. When I went to pick him up, I was practically chased around the car park with a card machine. My dog was in their care for 4 days and no one thought it appropriate to call me to discuss payment options, despite them having a dedicated finance team. I am now waiting for the £1500 to be paid back which is causing a lot of issues.

Their patient care might be excellent (I assume, I have no idea of the conditions the animals are kept in under their care) but their owner care is atrocious. Not caring people at all. Rude, condescending and patronising.

We were referred to Fitzpatrick in…

We were referred to Fitzpatrick in October and after numerous procedures still can't tell me what is wrong with my boy.
on the 6thDec evening we were advised they were really busy and they couldn't do all the procedures agreed on the 07th so we decided to cancel as my boy has been 5 Tims under aesthetic in 2020.
New appointment was made fr the 5th January and again were called on the 4th evening stating they couldn't go ahead
Another appointment was made for the 12th January and left my boy with them at 09:00.
They know my boy gets extremely stressed and he was left waiting until 16:30.
At 18:00 we received a phone call from the vet stating they couldn't do one of the procedures as they didn't have the equipment, to bring my boy back the next day.
At this point I had to speak on behalf of my boy so told them not and to wake him up to pick him up ASAP.
I was sick to my stomach, was so very upset when the vet told me while waiting for his procedure he had awful diarrhoea, he wee himself, fever, very high blood pressure....due to stress
It is a disgrace, I will never go back to Fitzpatrick

My cat was referred for an MRI and…

My cat was referred for an MRI and spinal tap after a suspected stroke. The vet that looked after her was Nathalie West. Luckily I live within 45 minutes drive however the whole process was very fast and she was admitted within 2 hours of the referral being accepted. Nathalie was extremely clear regarding the entire process and risks involved for an older animal - but she inspired much confidence in me that my cat would be very well looked after and that every care would be taken for her welfare.

I am pleased to say the outcome was positive - and whereas this alone is not enough to provide such positive feedback I feel very sure that Nathalie's skill and professionalism as well as that of the relevant specialists at the practice ensured that my cat endured as little upheaval to her life as possible - and to me that was all I could ask.

My local vets advised me to put my dog…

My local vets advised me to put my dog down as he kept having frequent seizures over a period of 6 months it began at the start of lockdown in April during which it it was very difficult to be provided the correct information treatment and diagnoses after a number of phone calls to the vets on a weekly basis and a few blood tests taken here and there they had came to a conclusion and assumed that these seizures where due down to a brain tumour and they cannot provide anymore help for my dog as he’s 8 years of age after hearing this and explaining to the rest of the family we was adamant for a second opinion and demanded to be referred to Fitzpatrick Neurosurgery for an MRI to see if this was the case other then the seizures our boy was he’s happy cheerful playful self once we had been referred within 24hours an appointment was made to take my dog upon arrival we was greeted by francisca couto who I must say was completely amazing throughout the entire time she got all previous information from my local vets she sat down and spoke with us to get a more in-depth idea of what had been happening and was able to relate she wanted to admit our boy for the night to run tests and observe him during the time he was there which ended up being 2 night francisca kept in continuous contact with us herself and her colleagues ran tests where they was able to confirm that my dog did not have a brain tumour she had diagnosed him with suspected idiopathic epilepsy and idiopathic head tremors and unfortunately in most cases epilepsy cannot be cured however with the correct medication the goal will be to reduce the frequency and severity in which it has done so my boy hasn’t had a seizure in nearly 2 months now and since being discharged she has continued to check in couldn’t be more thankful would definitely recommend.

Think very carefully before agreeing to a referral at Fitzpatrick Vets!

I wish I had read more reviews about Fitzpatrick before trusting them with my dog.

Our cherished dog, Holly, was diagnosed with a mammary tumour by her local vet. Due to an earlier condition we were advised that it would be best if Fitzpatrick Referrals did the operation due to their knowledge of her under anaesthetic. We received a referral appointment and met with Laurent Findji who briefly examined our dog and advised us that it would be their preference to remove both mammary chains when operating on Holly. It was suggested the operation was a routine procedure and that depending on the success of the surgery she may not need chemotherapy afterwards. Although worried for our little girl the surgery seemed to provide the best outcome for her. We couldn't have been more wrong...

Holly spent more than 4 hours in surgery and when we picked her up a couple of days later we weren't prepared for the size of the incision that had been made. The results of the biopsy that we received a few days later showed that she had a aggressive form of cancer, if we had known this beforehand we would not have put her through the surgery.

The incision never healed because not all of the cancer cells were removed. So she was never well enough to undergo chemotherapy treatment. Within 2 months of her operation she sadly lost her fight to live due to the cancer spreading rapidly after her operation. This was heartbreaking to watch and even now we are struggling to come to terms with what happened.

Fitzpatrick continually referred us to our local vet whenever we contacted them and at one point our local vet contacted them to berate them for their lack of support. When a Fitzpatrick specialist did eventually phone the excuse was the covid outbreak and more or less suggested they could do no more so why weren't we accepting the situation!

We emailed a complaint to Fitzpatrick Referrals specifically addressing the email to Noel Fitpatrick and to this day 7 months later we have received no response. No-one has even contacted us to ask how Holly is doing, even though they knew she was unwell.

We hope one day we are able to speak to Noel directly because the experience has not been pleasant and we will not return to this supposed specialist vet until all other options have been explored first.

If you are referred to them our advice is to seek an opinion from another specialist vet before agreeing to any treatment. Their only concern is how much money they can make from the desperate needs of a dog parent and their publicity makes it very easy for them to be the specialist vet of choice.

I wish I had read the reviews first!

I wish I had read the reviews first! I got a referral, a week before I contacted to check all was good as I had a 600 mile round trip. Two days before I contacted them again asking how long the mri we had booked would take on the day and staff told me between 1 and 4 hours. Our appointment was at 12.30 and said “so worst case we will be ready to leave at 6pm?” Staff confirmed this was the case snd I told them of the 600
Mile found trip. Arrived to be told they didn’t do mri’s on the day, it would be an overnight stay, and reception staff had misinformed me - as they had done to others as well
In the past. So with no choice we got back in the car and drove 300 miles home. Waste of a days leave, time, money etc.
