We chose to use College Transitions to help our daughter with her college applications. We originally were looking for someone to oversee and help fine tune her applications as she was applying to some moderately competitive schools.

When researching and talking to current college students we discovered that many kids have additional college prep and planning beyond guidance counselors at school. Some start as freshmen - getting input on what classes to take, preparing and tutoring for ACT and SAT.

College Transitions offered support with essays, resume preparation, and realistic feedback on the colleges she was applying to. They also suggested other colleges that might be a good fit, and had specific details about what certain colleges look for in applicants (in their book “Colleges Worth Your Money”).

College Transitions set up a timeline for our daughter for each part of the application, with due dates for each. They checked in on her to make sure she was on schedule. They gave her constructive feedback on her essays and the organization of her extracurriculars and volunteer information. They advised on who she should ask for recommendations.

She felt encouraged and in control of a stressful process- and it really took a lot of the stress off of us. We did not need to be constantly nagging her to work on her essays or her application. Having a deadline with College Transitions kept her on track and did not allow her to procrastinate.

They reviewed and fine tuned every part of each application and specific essays. We felt confident that she had presented the very best application possible while still being authentic and accurate.

She successfully applied to 6 colleges by the Early Action deadline . She was admitted to 5 and deferred to 1. She is enrolled at her first choice school for fall 2024.

I am happy with the quality of the support given to us, as there was no room for doubt with any information. The College Transitions team was a great fit for both our kids, who both got into their top choice NESCAC colleges on the ED1 round. Andrew and team proved excellent advisors throughout the process, including junior and senior year course selection, timeline management, interview preparation, essay writing, and more -- and in a way that both kids appreciated and valued.

As parents, it was nice to have an experienced third party to give the kids "assignments," deadlines, and advice through every step of the process. They were not overly hands-on micro-managers, so it was still up to our kids to manage their own process. At times, as parents, we had to prompt them to "ask Andrew" for help or schedule a call; so we remained involved, but could stay on the periphery. On one occasion for example, our son had an evaluative interview scheduled with a "Little Ivy." I encouraged him to consult with Andrew first, and Andrew promptly sent a list of tips and questions and set him up with an admissions officer on his team from Harvard Law school for a dry run. It was valuable to have that level of experience and resources available to our kids.

Essay preparation was one of the most valuable, not to mention time intensive and iterative, parts of the process. In the end, each of our kids' voices came through in a way that was authentic and polished, with output that they could submit with confidence that they were each putting their best foot forward.

Finally, the College Transitions team was valuable to us as parents for the many questions we had along the way. Feedback was always responsive and insightful. We can recommend them with confidence.

I can’t say enough about my family’s experience with Doctors Belasco and Trivette! College Transitions was instrumental in helping all three of my children with everything from high school course selections, summer opportunities, making a balanced college list, recommendation letters, interview prep, and guidance on applications (activities, essays, etc). They were the consummate professionals, extremely knowledgeable, and were always quickly accessible during the entire process. What I found most helpful was the very candid and direct advice on building a list of colleges to apply to. This really helped to manage our expectations and understand the process. They were so helpful in the creation of the list and our Essay Coach Christina was such a great resource for helping her rewrite and brainstorm ideas to many supplemental essays as well as her personal statement. College Transitions was everything we were looking for in a college counselor/guide experience, and more! From the first few days and initial meetings, we could tell Andrew and team knew their stuff. Even though both of us parents attended college and graduate school, so much has changed since we first went through the admissions process. The College Transitions team helped us at each step of the way with very up-to-date knowledge, insight, and mastery of a million details. I am sure we would have been pretty lost and repeatedly caught behind the 8-ball without their guidance.

Their services went well beyond the basic essay support and college application strategies, to include things like determining which honors programs to apply for, suggesting summer educational opportunities, and helping select senior-year classes to best emphasize our child's commitment and interest in their chosen field. But the essay support was also exemplary; our child was paired with a professional writer who patiently worked with them through the whole process, including brainstorming meetings, several review cycles, and constant encouragement.

Overall, we're extremely pleased with the experience (and outcome) and highly recommend College Transition over other options.

I highly recommend this company to any parents whose kids are in high school and need help with college applications! One of the best decisions we made as a family is to use the services of College Transitions for my son’s college applications. College transitions was really helpful towards my application process. My essay coach did a wonderful job in aiding me to narrow down my topic ideas and clarify my paragraphs while maintaining an original tone. I also found the program schedule to be extremely beneficial; all of the deadlines were made very clear including deadlines for recommendation letters, essay drafts and submissions, tests, etc., it was particularly efficient in keeping me on track in the midst of a chaotic senior year. I also appreciated the custom list of colleges I should consider applying to from matches to reaches.

It was a pleasure working with Andrew Belasco and his team at College Transitions. As our daughter is an only child, my husband and I were unfamiliar on how to best navigate the college search process. We wanted to ensure that we found the best fit for her. Our son felt very overwhelmed with the college application process and we really didn’t want to nag and drag him along through the process as we figured it out ourselves. Andrew and the other coaches stepped in and really made it a manageable and understandable process guiding our son every step of the way from standardized test advice, internship choices, college selections, essay coaching, applications, and so forth. My son got accepted to 5 out of the 7 schools he applied to- and even got a large scholarship at one! Even more valuable, the process was a lot less stressful! For our son - this was exactly the help he needed.

College Transitions helped us tremendously with both of our students' college admissions process, but it was our son's experience that was so incredibly helpful.

Our son applied for top engineering programs; we had no idea of what he needed to do. Andrew looked over his transcript, grades, clubs and activities and gave positive feedback where appropriate. More importantly, however, he noted where relative weaknesses were and how our son could work to bolster those areas. With Andrew's help, our son crafted a well rounded list of schools to visit. When we visited schools, Andrew helped our son alter the list as he was better able to determine what he liked or did not like at those schools.

With the help of the essay coach, our son completed MANY drafts of essays until they were "as perfect as (he) could possibly make them". That was what he wanted and his essay coach provided that service for him. They were my son's words, that with the interactions and feedback from his coach, he was able to put together in phenomenal ways. Turnaround time for drafts was very quick, which worked well for my son's desired schedule.

Andrew was very accessible, with quick response time. When we had a concern based on the school's college counselor recommendation that was in conflict with what College Transitions had told us, we reached out to Andrew and he provided reassurance and feedback. In fact, the school counselor was wrong, as we found out when my son was accepted ED to his first choice program - a top 10 school and #2 for his major. We made the right decision - TWICE!

This was our first child headed to college. We knew the landscape had changed a lot since my husband and I applied to college a few decades ago. Also, our son was more laid back than both of us.

Ultimately, my son went ED1 and was accepted, but the guidance from Andrew was very helpful along the way for class selection, standardized testing, and extra curriculars. Moreover, the support from Emily (writing coach) for assisting with reviewing application answers, brainstorming supplemental essays, and editing my son's common app submission was terrific.

Overall, It was great to have a neutral and educated third party in between us and my son the entire time. They were honest with our options and kept us in the loop, but my son was their main point of contact taking ownership of his future.
